Reifen organiser extends Rubber Tech Europe, announces Future Tire Conference

Having made its debut in 2014, Messe Essen and the Chinese United Rubber Corporation (CURC) have extended the contract for Rubber Tech Europe up to and including 2020. Rubber Tech China, the Asian predecessor to Rubber Tech Europe, has been held annually alongside Reifen China since 2007, with the former taking three halls at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre to the latter’s one. The new agreement will give Rubber Tech Europe, which started with a space in hall six in Essen’s Reifen 2014, the chance to develop into a more substantial component of the biannual event, with the backing from Messe Essen for the next three Reifen shows. The show within a show is one part of Messe Essen’s strategy to centralise international partnerships within its tyre show operations ahead of the BRV-backed The Tire Cologne show, to be held at Koelnmesse in 2018. The company has also developed links with global aftermarket series, Automechanika.

Messe Essen, CURC report increase in visitors to Reifen China 2014

Messe Essen and the China United Rubber Corporation (CURC) have completed their review of December’s Reifen China show, saying that the show, in conjunction with RubberTech China, continued its upward trajectory in visitor numbers. Messe Essen says that “around 17,500 visitors” gathered at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre between 3 and 5 December 2014, an increase of over 15 per cent year-on-year.

The largest and oldest continuously-held tyre trade fair in Europe is the Reifen show, held every two years in the German city of Essen. And while Reifen has existed for years in relative harmony alongside other regional exhibitions, such as Manchester-based Brityrex, at the start of 2014 a brand new tyre trade event was announced, and this appears to have gotten under the skin of Reifen organiser, Messe Essen. What sets this new show apart is that it will enjoy the support of Reifen’s current main sponsor, and will take place only 45 miles away from Essen – at exactly the same time. Given this clash of dates it seems, to paraphrase a cliché from Western films, that the town isn’t big enough for the two of them: A tyre show showdown looms on the horizon.

120 exhibitors, 15,000 visitors expected for Reifen China 2014

Reifen China’s 2014 edition will take place on 3-5 December at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre on December 3 – 5, 2014. On the occasion of the eighth edition of the international meeting place for the sector, Messe Essen and the China United Rubber Corporation (CURC) are expecting around 120 exhibitors from numerous nations. Many of the biggest names in the Chinese tyre industry will be present, and the organisers have particularly emphasised the manufacturing backbone of the show; with around 45 percent of the exhibitors originating from the producing industries, “Reifen China will be a manufacturers’ fair”. The organisers are expecting a total of around 15,000 visitors to both trade fairs.

Same time, different place – concurrent dates for ‘Reifen’ and ‘Tire Cologne’

Anyone thinking about taking in a tyre show in Germany four years from now will need to schedule their itinerary very carefully. It’s already been reported that current ‘Reifen’ show sponsor the BRV (the German Federal Association of the Tyre Trade and the Vulcanisers’ Skilled Trade) will, come 2018, trade its long-term partner for a new exhibition some 40 miles from the Essen exhibition centre. But what’s only now become clear is that Germany will not only host two tyre shows in the same general vicinity – both will also be held at exactly the same time.

Reifen 2016 at record registration levels

The time since Reifen 2014 can still be measured in weeks, but even now, Messe Essen reports that it has already firmly rented out around 60 per cent of the area in 2014 for Reifen 2016 on 24–27 May, 2016. The more than 150 exhibitors which have already registered include the following manufacturers (amongst others): Alligator, Giti Tire, Kraiburg, Kumho Tyre, Infinity Tyres, Marangoni, VMI and Yokohama. Moreover, the trading companies Bohnenkamp and Reiff have confirmed their participation in the world’s leading trade fair for the tyre sector.

Positive response to first RubberTech Europe, says organiser

The organiser of the inaugural RubberTech Europe fair reports a successful debut at Reifen 2014. China United Rubber Corporation (CURC) says RubberTech Europe “met with a very positive response amongst the exhibitors and the visitors” and “supplemented the range on offer at Reifen in very way.”

Messe Essen reports positive Reifen show, announces deal to secure future

The figures for Reifen 2014 have been totted up; according to show organiser Messe Essen, between 27 and 30 May around 20,000 people visited the world’s largest tyre exhibition. This year’s attendance was therefore even higher – if only slightly – than the record numbers achieved in 2012. This time round, 36 per cent of all visitors were industry professionals based in the show’s home country, Germany, while the rest – some 12,800 visitors – travelled to Essen from 130 different countries.

Reifen, Automechanika agree upon strategic partnership

Messe Essen and Messe Frankfurt have announced a “far-reaching strategic partnership”, aimed at strengthening the Reifen and Automechanika trade fairs. The partners expressed a joint desire to exploit “synergetic effects in sales and marketing across borders,” the most obvious of which will be package solutions for exhibitors.

Reifen 2014 has opened at Messe Essen, Germany. 670 exhibitors from 44 countries are exhibiting this year, including two thirds from outside Germany, making it one of Germany’s most international expos. Many of the world’s leading tyre and related industries sector, including the 20 largest tyre manufacturers, are present at the show, which continues until Friday, 30 May. The exhibition organiser said that it expects 19,000 visitors from 130 countries during the show’s four days.

Preparations for Reifen 2014 in full swing, says organiser

Reifen 2014 organiser Messe Essen says preparations for this month’s trade fair are in “full swing” ahead of the show’s opening on 27 May. As of the start of May, 660 exhibitors from 44 countries have signed up for Reifen 2014, with oversees exhibitors accounting for around 70 per cent of the companies with a presence at the Essen show. Messe Essen says than China is the best-represented country in terms of exhibitor numbers, followed by Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the USA. In regards to visitors, Messe Essen is expecting members of the tyre and related trades from some 130 countries to visit Reifen 2014.

Fourth category added to Reifen Innovation Awards

Reifen show organiser Messe Essen reports that this year a fourth category is being added to the so-called ‘tyre industry oscars’, the Innovation Awards jointly bestowed by Messe Essen and main sponsor the BRV (Germany’s tyre trade and vulcanisers’ association) alongside the biennial trade exhibition. This new category is Motor Vehicle Service, which joins the existing Technology & Products, Service Concepts & Process Optimisation and Environmental & Resource Conservation awards in 2014. Messe Essen is accepting award recipient nominations until 31 March.

Industry divided over Essen/Cologne as preferred tyre show site

The survey results weren’t quite as close as those for the referendum in Essen, Germany, where a “majority” of 50.4 per cent voted against renovations to the Messe Essen site. Yet there was also no clear majority in the survey held in Germany by our sister publication Neue Reifenzeitung, and only slightly more respondents voted in favour of a tyre exhibition in Cologne as opposed to Essen, where the Reifen show is currently held.

As reported last week, the main sponsor of the Reifen tyre show, which is held every two years in Germany, will part ways with exhibition organiser Messe Essen after the 2016 show. Trade association and current Reifen ‘ideal sponsor’ the BRV intends to be involved in a new tyre trade fair located in Cologne. A letter sent by Messe Essen on 23 January and signed by management board chairman Oliver P. Kuhrt and director of trade fairs and exhibitions Annegret Appel, addresses the future parting of ways.

While German tyre trade organisation and Reifen show ‘ideal sponsor’ the BRV has announced plans to hold its tyre exhibition in Cologne as of 2018, Messe Essen, who operates the site where Reifen has been held for some 50 years, indicates it may continue hosting the show in Essen.
