BTCC Fans Help HiQ to Raise £5k

Up to 42,000 British Touring Car Championship fans have been praised by HiQ for helping to raise £5,000 for Breast Cancer Care. Clad in pink, the network descended upon Brands Hatch to make the final race weekend of the season one to remember for HiQ's official charity. The fast fit network’s pink girls were on hand to give away caps and replica cars in return for donations to the cause, and after counting the particularly heavy collections buckets from Sunday, the network can now reveal that £5,000 was raised through generous donations. Of that total, the BTCC marshals at Brands Hatch have been singled out for a special mention, after raising £600 themselves.

HiQ Staffers on a Roll for Charity

This weekend a pink tyre will be rolled across the Black Country, part of the way by grown men wearing hot pink polo shirts. And while such a sight may be a rarity in the West Midlands, sound reasons lurk behind the pinkness and the tyre rolling. On October 16, the country’s largest HiQ franchisee is initiating a 15 mile tyre roll to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

General Tire Picks Up Jeepspeed Title Sponsorship

In the US, General Tire has announced its title sponsorship of the 2011 General Tire Jeepspeed Challenge, a desert race series designed to give Jeep enthusiasts the opportunity to race their daily vehicle alongside other die-hard Jeep fans. The title sponsorship runs for a three-year period and the deal also involves the adoption of products from the Continental Tire the Americas brand as spec tyres. The 2011 Jeepspeed season begins in February 2011 and runs until December, during which time five challenge/cup events and two bonus events will be run.

Conti’s European Prices to Rise

Continental AG notes the price of natural rubber has reached “well over” US$3 per kilogram, a level it calls a historic high for the commodity. In order to compensate for this, the company plans to increase prices for its replacement market summer tyres throughout Europe by an average of five per cent. The price increase will apply to all Continental passenger car tyre brands within the region.

Kumho Adds US Teams to Sports Sponsorship Portfolio

It is already heavily involved in the UK and throughout Europe with football – the real football, the one where ball contact is made using the feet – and now Kumho Tires has extended its sports sponsorship activities to the American equivalent. In announcing the sponsorship of five gridiron teams in the US, the tyre maker says it has chosen a target for its sports marketing “renowned as American as apple pie” to make inroads into North American area.

HiQ Fundraising Efforts to Pick Up Speed at Brands Hatch

The HiQ fast fit network has enlisted the help of two of the quickest young drivers in Britain as it hits the fast lane with its fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer Care. British Touring Car Championship drivers Paul O'Neill and Tom Chilton are backing HiQ's pledge to turn Brands Hatch pink during the final round of BTCC action on October 10, and those coming along to watch the day’s events are encouraged to dress accordingly. To help things along, HiQ, sponsor of the Team's Championship, will be giving away official pink caps in return for a donation for the cause, while T-Shirts will also be up for grabs. Meanwhile, face painting and a series of other activities will be made available for fans.

Vianor Industrial Network for Heavy Vehicles Launched

Nokian Tyres’ Vianor retail network is already active in 19 countries, with a total of 623 outlets in operation. In several Scandinavian markets the company has now extended Vianor concept to heavy vehicle tyres. Vianor, together with the Nokian Heavy Tyres division, has developed Vianor Industrial, through which companies and contractors operating heavy vehicles are offered a “professional solution utilising the latest innovations and operating models in the field of tyre manufacturing.” The Finnish tyre maker states it intends to add further Vianor Industrial outlets and expand the concept globally.

Apollo: 30% Increase in Exports to Europe Planned

At present Apollo Tyres exports 50,000 Apollo branded tyres a month to Europe from its factory in Vadodara, India, yet company ‘sources’ claim this quantity will increase markedly in the coming months. According to Indian financial journal the Hindu Business Line, sources expect a 30 per cent increase in the monthly shipment of tyres to Europe, with 65,000 units a month arriving here by March- April 2011.

Expanded MOT Coverage a ‘Natural Step Forward’ for ATS Euromaster

Plans to increase the number of ATS Euromaster outlets equipped for MOT testing are “on target”, the fast-fitter reports. By the end of the year 100 centres throughout the UK will be able to offer an MOT test service, an increase of 20 per cent. ATS Euromaster says a similar increase is scheduled for 2011.

Michelin Aims to Double Malaysian Market Share

Amongst Michelin’s plans in Asia is a doubling of market share in Malaysia. Yves Pouliquen, managing director of Michelin Malaysia Sdn Bhd, reports the more than 1,000 outlets selling Michelin tyres throughout the country hold a ten per cent share of the market, and the tyre maker’s goal is to “grow that to 20 per cent.” One means the company has of increasing its presence in Malaysia is via the expansion of its Tyreplus network of independent tyre retailers. A year after its initial Malaysian market debut, the national Tyreplus network contains eight outlets, and Michelin plans to increase this to 50 centres by 2013 through a project Pouliquen says will cost some RM10 million (£2 million).

Canadian Tire Shakes Things Up, Warns Employees

Top management of Canadian Tire is not at all happy, so its president and CEO has turned the company on its ear and has warned employees to shape up, says Tire Review. Stephen Wetmore, head of the massive retailer for less than 24 months, has reshuffled the top exec deck and realigned the company’s divisions under one umbrella in a move to improve the bottom line, enhance customer service and cut duplication and costs.
