Michelin appoints new retread sales manager after promotion

Graham Karran is celebrating his 25th year at Michelin Tyre plc with a promotion to retread sales manager, responsible for the sales and marketing of all Michelin’s retread tyres in the UK. He replaces Mike Wilson, previously retread sales manager for 16 years. Wilson is promoted to commercial director of Michelin’s earthmover and industrial operations in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Karran, 44, will use his extensive experience within the truck tyre sector to work closely with Michelin’s Remix and Encore production sites in Stoke-on-Trent. Together, these two facilities maintain Michelin’s position as the country’s largest producer of retread tyres.

Goodyear survey highlights poor knowledge of Highway Code

Results from the poll of 5,000 motorists showed a large percentage failed to correctly answer a number of general knowledge and picture questions covering The Highway Code. 48 per cent of those surveyed also didn’t know that the typical stopping distance for a car driving at 50mph is 53 metres or 13 car lengths. Nearly a fifth thought they could get away with 36 metres.

One of the world’s leading suppliers of ancillary forecourt equipment has joined TyreSafe following the group’s first ever industry roadshow. The recent event highlighted how companies from a wide range of sectors can get involved in promoting tyre safety, as well as giving an insight into the challenges the UK continues to face from defective and illegal tyres. Hankook adverts back in Times Square

Hankook has returned to New York's Times Square. Once again the South Korean-based tyre maker has secured billboards in one of the most famous adversity locations in the world. The latest banner, presented once again in the form of the successful Ventus V12 evo high-performance tyre, is on the facade of the Marriott Marquis Hotel and is designed to “impress millions of visitors” this time for a whole year. Hankook says it is aiming to reinforce and develop its brand profile and image with the latest campaign.

Firestone brand launches new European website for tyre end users

Bridgestone has announced the launch of a new European website for the Firestone brand. The website hopes to attract the attention of end users with improved navigation and imagery to reflect the desired brand image for Firestone. “We designed this new Firestone website from the consumer point of view” says Jean-François Callier, trade marketing, Bridgestone Europe. “The content reflects what motorists want to find on a site and we provided the structure and flow to make their search as easy as possible.”

Continental names commercial sales manager

Mark Kerswill has joined Continental Tyre Group as truck sales manager with immediate effect. 47-year-old Kerswill brings 22 years of sales experience at both Michelin and Bridgestone to the company’s UK and Ireland commercial sales team and is responsible for the East Midlands and North East England.

Michael Andre to leave Giti Tire

Michael Andre has resigned from Giti Tire Europe for personal reasons. Andre, who was marketing director for passenger car tyres Europe and managing director of the company’s Giti Tire Germany GmbH German subsidiary, is said to have made his decision during the middle of March.

Conti HD Hybrid wins Spanish tyre of year award

Continental reports its HD Hybrid commercial vehicle tyre has beaten off the competition – namely the Bridgestone Ecopia, Goodyear Marathon LHT II, Hankook E-Cube, Pirelli ST:01 and Dunlop SP 244 – to be named “Neumático del Año en España 2011”, or tyre of the year, by Spain’s Grupo Tecnipublicaciones. This award in the commercial vehicle category of the publishing group’s Madrid-based annual awards was presented to Conti truck sales manager Juan Uruburu and truck marketing manager Frank Deuter. Continental states that, in presenting this award, the jury acknowledges the “commitment of tyre manufacturers to advanced tyre technologies that increase safety, minimise wear, improve environmental compatibility and generally make a contribution to reduced fuel consumption.”

Toyo Tires sponsors UFC Lightweight fighter

Toyo Tire USA has announced that it will sponsor the Ultimate Fighting Championship Lightweight division fighter, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis as a Team Toyo Athlete for 2011. “I am proud to represent Toyo Tires,” said Pettis. “Toyo has always been a major supporter of mixed martial arts and I am honoured that they have selected me as an ambassador of their brand.”

Dunlop announces launch of new Sportmax Qualifier HR bike tyre

Designed as a sports tyre for riders of lightweight bikes demanding race-worthy performance at an affordable price, the new H speed-rated (up to 130mph) series of Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier HR tyres. Dunlop says it has used “compound technology derived from the GP Racer D211” in the design of the tyre, features that it says make it “the first tyre to bring race compound features to the keen sports rider in this sector of the market”. The tyre is available in sizes for 125cc to 400cc bikes and supermotos up to 690cc.

New app from General Tire

A new General Tire application giving its North American customers quick access to an arsenal of product information and a database of pictures and videos has been approved by Apple and released into its iTunes Store, where it is available for free download. Within the General Tire app are five key functions, including Tire Descriptions, which feature sizing and pictures to help customers find the right tyre for their passenger car, light truck, off-road or commercial vehicle; Dealer Locators with maps to assist customers in finding the most convenient location to purchase General Tires; Team GT Race Videos; a Photo Gallery and a News/Promotions section. Off-road enthusiasts can watch the latest and greatest from Team GT and consumers can research the right General Tire for their car or truck.

Balkrishna Tyres to showcase latest products at Automechanika Middle East

Balkrishna Tyres will be exhibiting its latest range of All Steel Radial Tyres when it appears for the first time at this year’s Automechanika Middle East (7 – 9 June at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre). According to the show’s organisers, a full hall at Automechanika Middle East will be dedicated to.
