Dunlop’s RoadSmart II to meet touring market’s expanded requirements

Dunlop’s launch of its latest touring tyre, the RoadSmart II, is a move from the manufacturer to meet “tougher expectations” in the two-wheel segment. Developed to succeed its RoadSmart, Dunlop says the new premium tyre uses Jointless Belt and Multi-Tread technologies derived from the brand’s motorsport involvement to deliver class-equalling or class-beating performance in key handling areas, alongside the substantial mileage traditionally required of tyres in the segment. “The sport touring market has seen a lot of changes in recent years,” says Sharon Antonaros, marketing director Dunlop motorcycle tyres EMEA.

Avon Tyres launches new websites

Avon Tyres has revamped its website and the new version is now live at www.avon-tyres.co.uk. The updated site features “a completely re-designed layout to give improved access to information on products for cars, 4x4s, motorcycles and vans.” According to the company, the site points to local Avon Tyres outlets through the “Find A Dealer” section. It also links to Avon Motorsport’s website, which has also been enhanced as one of the company’s chief marketing tools.

Hankook establishes new subsidiary in Poland

Hankook Tire has established an additional subsidiary in Europe. The opening of the company’s Polish branch in Warsaw is in keeping with the growing demand for Hankook tyres in the European markets. “Thanks to our new subsidiary in Poland we are now also able to provide full service to our partners and customers in the 6th largest tyre market in the European Union. This is in-line with Hankook’s strategy of close market and customer proximity to provide optimal tyre solutions, developed and produced with the very latest in market-specific and innovative technologies, to meet regional requirements and demands,” explains Hee-Se Ahn, vice president for marketing and sales Hankook Tire Europe.

Continental appoints Tracey Hyem as commercial marketing manager

Continental Tyres has appointed Tracey Hyem as commercial marketing manager. Hyem is no stranger to Continental having been with the manufacturer eight years. Initially joining as marketing communications manager, she then moved into a role as brand manager for passenger car tyres – a position she held for five years – before taking up her current role as marketing manager for Continental’s commercial vehicle and industrial product lines.

Tire Group International has announced its appointment of Osvaldo Marchante as vice-president of business development. Marchante has more than 25 years of extensive automotive and on/off highway industry experience with multinationals. New trade deal will aid US doing tyre business with South Korea

TIA says that the renewed free trade deal with South Korea is a good deal for the U.S. tyre market. President Obama signed the renewal of the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which was part of a trade pact originally agreed to between the U.S. and South Korea in 2007 – Korean-United States Free Trade Agreement.

Alliance adds new flotation radial

Alliance Tire Americas has introduced the FloTruck 382, a new all-steel radial flotation tyre. Developed for on- and off-highway use, the FloTruck 382 is rated for 6,610 pounds at 62 mph (3,000 kg at 100 km/h) and is DOT-compliant, the company claimed.

Westlake Tyres signs exclusivity deal with Direct Tyre Management

Westlake Tyres has announced that it has appointed Direct Tyre Sales as sole distributor of its truck tyre range in the UK. Direct Tyre Management (DTM). In order to supply the British market, DTM will promote Westlake’s TBR brand through its own “team of regional sales staff” where it will “complement” its own “retread brand”. DTM plan to distribute all Westlake TBR products destined for the UK from their Wigan Retread Factory in Lancashire. Sales of circa 90,000 Westlake TBR units over the next three years are expected.

MAXAM appoints North American manager

MAXAM Tire S.a.r.l has announced the appointment of Tim Good as the company's North American Territory Manager, effective October 2011. Tim Good previously worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 37 years holding a variety of positions, including manager global customer accounts, OTR Tires. In this latter position, which he held for the past 22 years, Tim Good focused on the company's major OTR customers throughout the world. He holds an MBA in marketing from Kent State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Malone College.

HiQ calls TAFF Retailer win its “biggest success” of 2011

Plymouth HiQ franchisee Pilgrim Tyres Ltd claimed the inaugural Tyre Retailer of the Year TAFF Award at this year’s ceremony last week; an achievement the fast fit network is calling its “biggest success story of 2011”. The victory was the result of its performance in an assessment programme including a 30-point mystery telephone call, and a clandestine branch visit designed to observe how the branch operates in real-life conditions. The award was supported by Encircle Marketing. HiQ Plymouth’s franchisee Bob Saunders said: “I am absolutely over the moon. TyreSafe has announced that one of the UK’s newest online tyre and wheel retailers, Goodgrip.co.uk has become its latest associate member. The website is the UK trading name of Bythjul Norden AB, which has been supplying winter and summer tyres to Nordic countries for the last 10 years and launched in the UK this October.
