Continental Tire has joined Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to provide a $50,000 solar installation to a school in the community of MLS Cup 2011 winner, the LA Galaxy, as part of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation Solar 4R Schools program, reports Tire Review. “We are thrilled to be working with MLS W.O.R.K.S and BEF to put a solar installation in a school in the hometown of the LA Galaxy, MLS Cup champions,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing, Continental Tire.
It’s been reported that numerous councils across England are reducing spending on winter road services such as gritting – some by as much as 30 per cent. Commenting on these planned cutbacks, Michelin says there has never been a better time for motorists to fit cold weather tyres.
Goodyear has announced that its Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyre will be fitted as original equipment to Porsche’s new 911 Carrera 2. The tyre, which recently won the Auto Express 2011 tyre test, will be supplied in the sizes 235/40ZR 19 (front) and 285/35ZR 19 (rear). Goodyear remarks that tyre choice on the new 911 is vital, due to its rear engine configuration. The traction improvements yielded require the rear tyres to transfer 350 break horsepower to the tarmac; Goodyear says its Eagle F1A2 will meet this need through its “solid performance and quality credentials”.
Car parts distributor CES (UK) has held a classic car event on the streets of its hometown Chester. Car enthusiasts and shoppers were able to view a spectacular display of cars from the CES-sponsored Winter Challenge Rally lining the city centre. More than 70 cars were on show ahead of the four day rally to Monte Carlo, while their drivers, dressed in period costume, answered questions from the gathered crowds. CES says the rally was a great opportunity to showcase its brand and give a little boost to the local economy.
Tyre wholesaler Kings Road Tyres (KRT) has voiced its support for next October’s Brityrex International exhibition. The company describes itself as a long-standing supporter of the UK’s only dedicated tyre and equipment show; purchasing and marketing manager Tim Bader shares: “We are strong believers in the importance of the UK industry having its own successful and truly representative show. Brityrex aspires to become the focal point for our industry, a dedicated show where people do business, and that’s something we think is really important.”
College basketball seems to be a popular current choice for sponsorship deals in the US, with two tyre makers announcing plans to support tournaments. Hankook Tire America stated on 17 November that it would advertise during nine men’s tournaments during November and December, while Continental Tire the Americas reported it has been named title sponsor for two marquee college basketball tournaments, the Las Vegas Invitational and the Las Vegas Classic.
According to Continental, the harsh UK and Northern Ireland winters of recent times have brought about an increase in demand for truck winter tyres. To meet this higher demand, the tyre maker has added five new sizes to its Scandinavia 2 range of winter tyres for truck, bus and coach.
German machine manufacturer the Pallmann Group and Spanish tyre recycler Gestión Mediambiental de Neumáticos – otherwise known as GMN – have begun a partnership for developing, building and selling complete tyre shredding and reprocessing plants. These products will be marketed under the Ecotrec name and encompass all modules necessary for recycling car and truck tyres; these include Pallmann’s shredders (the Lion and Tiger units), granulators (Panther), and separators (Eco-Sep), as well as complete conveyor and control technology, including appropriate know-how. Tool manufacturer Facom is introducing a new range dedicated to the safe maintenance and repair of hybrid and electric vehicles. Known as the EVT (Electric Vehicle Tools) range, these insulated tools have been designed specifically to protect mechanics working on electric and hybrid vehicles. The "high voltage" systems in these vehicles can have up to 500 volts running through some cables – enough to cause serious harm or even death.
Toyo Tire & Rubber’s Nitto brand will appear in the popular automotive-based Facebook game Car Town thanks to a deal between Nitto Tire U.S.A. and Cie Games. The one-year part multiple phase integrated partnership gives Car Town players the chance to participate in Nitto-branded game missions featuring the company's new line of tyres, and will also offer new in-game activities, virtual items, community contests and giveaways.
In a move demonstrating Mitas recent efforts to elevate its brand to the level of a premium OE tyre, the company supplied AGCO with Mitas AC tyres, 270/80R32 (front) displayed for fitment on the company's Fendt 210 Vario tractor for row-crop application on its Agritechnica stand.
ZAFCO, the UAE-based distributor of automotive tyres, batteries and lubricants, has announced the launch of its “Safe Tire, Safe Family” campaign. According to the company, “Safe Tire, Safe Family” is a bid to help make roads safer for commuters in the UAE. In launching the effort, ZAFCO conducted complementary vehicle inspections, starting with Al Noor Training Centre on the 23 and 24 of October, with plans for the campaign to branch out to schools across the country.
