Snap-On Tools’s new UK franchise manager

Snap-on Tools has announced the appointment of Lisa Law as its new UK franchise manager. In her new role Law will be responsible for growing and improving the quality of the Snap-on network of franchisees in the UK. She will also be responsible for regulatory and compliance issues with regard to the existing successful Snap-on Tools business format, which has seen them as previous winners of the BFA Franchisor of the Year Award sponsored by The Daily Express and HSBC Bank.

Goodyear Dunlop launches fuel efficiency website

Goodyear Dunlop has launched a website and related Twitter feed to provide fuel efficiency information to fleets. The site will offer the company’s tips on saving fuel, best practice case studies in green fleet management, and details on Goodyear Dunlop’s upcoming fleet symposium ‘Driving fuel efficiency in Europe’s road freight transport’. The event will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 25 January.

HiQ’s Carr promotes campaign to remove new MOT surprises

HiQ has announced a marketing campaign designed to help educate motorists about multiple changes to the MOT test brought into effect from 1 January, including checks of dashboard warning lights. The fast fit network wants to encourage motorists to speak to their nearest centre manager about the changes when booking their test. Fast fit manager Stuart Carr said that some problems previously deemed “advisory” will now fail the standard MOT test and he wants as many motorists as possible to know more about the changes.

Organisational changes aplently at Yokohama Tire

The company responsible for printing Yokohama Tire Corporation’s business cards must be rubbing its hands with glee – the North American division of Yokohama Rubber has announced a host of “strategic management promotions” and other changes in role and job description. These changes take effect immediately. Dan King, Yokohama Tire’s senior vice-president of sales and marketing, has described the personnel changes as part of Yokohama’s “progressive effort to continually improve the service we provide to our dealers and deliver the best products to the market.”

US garage equipment manufacturer finds Asian export partner

Tyre changer, wheel balancer and lift manufacturer, Hennessy Industries has formed a partnership with Hockman-Lewis Ltd., an international export management company, to handle sales and marketing of its Coats, Ammco and Bada branded products throughout Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim, Tire Review reports.The new partnership represents a commitment to capitalising on the increasing demand for automotive service equipment in those markets, said Hennessy.

Vipal mobile school trains over 909 in tyre maintenance in 2011

Brazilian retreader, Vipal’s mobile training unit helped to qualify 909 industry professionals in 2011, travelling nearly 23,700km across Brazil. In the last five years, the Carreta-Escola, as the mobile unit is called, has conducted 553 training sessions, delivered to 7,006 people across Brazil, with the number of participating companies reaching 334. Vipal expects to train about 1,050 people in 2012.

In the US, Oro-Tek has added QR codes to its TPMS sensor packaging, allowing technicians to get application and relearn data direct to their smartphones. QR code scan apps are available for free for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android smartphones.

Fulda range a growth area for Bandvulc

The Bandvulc Group reports its sales of the Fulda commercial vehicle tyre range grew 30 per cent year-on-year during 2011. The credit for this respectable increase goes to the both the Fulda portfolio itself and Bandvulc’s marketing efforts; following on from last year’s better than anticipated result the company expects sales of Fulda tyres to remain strong in 2012.

Sustainability key to agri tyre design, says Trelleborg

During recent agricultural trade shows – Agritechnica in Germany and SIMA in France – Trelleborg Wheel Systems asked more than 300 agricultural sector opinion leaders what issues they viewed as key to agriculture and important in future tyre development. The Swedish firm reports that 72 per cent of those surveyed stated they considered sustainability a key issue. When it came to tyre design, 84 per cent thought lowering environmental impact should be taken into consideration in future agriculture tyre designs while 73 per cent said they believe a tyre that reduced environmental impact could actually improve farm productivity and efficiency.

Michelin throws down weight reduction gauntlet

Michelin North America has opened registrations for the 2013 Michelin Challenge Design competition and announced that this latest round will address weight reduction through design – a subject the tyre maker says is “becoming a new battleground in the struggle for increasing fuel efficiency.” Participants in the 2013 Michelin Challenge Design, which is titled ‘Half! Lightweight with a Passion’, have been set the task of exploring lightweight vehicle development by designing a family vehicle.

Independent East Midlands tyre distributor Tanvic Group Ltd operates from eight locations in Newark (its head office), Lincoln, Grantham, Corby, Melton Mowbray, Loughborough, Worksop and Market Harborough. Though Tanvic says it recognises the market has contracted over the last few years, it has met this challenge by increasing the specialist knowledge of its staff, attempting to add value to the service it offers farm customers.

Michelin anticipates winter tyre sales growth

Even though this winter has been relatively mild compared with the past couple of years, Michelin is expecting a strong increase in cold weather tyre sales in the UK. Staffordshire based newspaper The Sentinel reports the tyre maker is expecting sales of winter tyres to reach the half-million mark this season, some 50 per cent more than a year earlier and more than three times more than three years ago.

Deldo’s new online webshop, a year in preparation, has now been launched. This online facility – deldo-online.com – gives Deldo’s partners direct access to some 2,000,000 budget and premium tyres and enables tyres to be searched for and selected by vehicle and orders to be arranged and tracked in real time. Partners can also order in a range of currencies and access account and invoice information.
