Swedish touring championship to run on Hankook tyres

Hankook has signed on as official tyre supplier to the Swedish TTA – Racing Elite League (Elitserien i Racing) touring car championship, and will provide competitors with its Ventus F200 slick and Z207 rain tyre for each of the coming season’s eight races. Announcing the deal, Hee-Se Ahn, Hankook Tire vice-president for Marketing & Sales in Europe, stated “we are truly excited about our new partnership with the TTA. With this partnership we are taking a significant next step in our European motorsports engagement as it is the first time we are the exclusive tyre supplier to a racing series in the Scandic markets. TGI appoints new territory manager

Tire Group International has announced another new addition to its international sales team. The Florida, US-based wholesaler has appointed John Abreu its new territory manager for Puerto Rico & Colombia. Abreu has been in the automotive industry for more than ten years and TGI comments that he brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge in the passenger, light truck, truck, industrial, agricultural and OTR tyre segments with him into this new role. Previously, Abreu worked for more than five years at General Motors as its fixed operations director.

Motorcycle insurance broker Carole Nash is to introduce free security marking kits as a standard benefit not only on all new road and off-road policies, but also on renewals. The move comes after a successful trial of Carole Nash DNA+ at the end of last year, which saw thousands of satisfied customers apply the anti-theft measure to their cherished motorcycles.

Korean, Japanese evaluations confirm Enfren Eco rolling resistance credentials

Hankook reports its Enfren Eco H433 has been given the top grade for energy efficiency in the ratings set out by the Korea Energy Management Corporation. The tyre maker says the H433 is the first tyre from a Korean manufacturer to receive this grade. In December 2011 the tyre also received the highest AAA rating for rolling resistance in the labelling system set up by the Tire Fair Trade Commission in Japan.

Female participation in tyre R&D increasing, says Conti

On 1 March eleven graduates commenced Continental’s Explore Tires Research & Development trainee programme, and the German tyre maker has noted that – for the first time ever – female inductees outnumber their male counterparts; for 2012, the new intake of tyre research and development trainees includes six women and five men. Conti says that the proportion of women accepted for training in the research, development, production and marketing of tyres has been increasing over a number of years.

Michelin confident of meeting ambitious objectives

In the last Michelin Annual and Sustainable Development Report that group managing partners Michel Rollier and Jean-Dominique Senard will jointly present, the two leaders of the French company commented on a 2011 punctuated by the start of the tyre maker’s new four-year business plan and rocketing commodity prices. For this year they share that growth is anticipated in emerging markets and North America, while Europe will most likely deliver more modest results. Rollier also expressed his “full and absolute” confidence in his successor, who is expected to take over sole leadership in May.

Continental to take over ContiTread sales in April

As of April 2012, Continental and Marangoni Group will hand over the promotion and sales of ContiTread pre-cure treads to Continental Tyre Group Ltd in the UK and Ireland. BKT Europe announces new MD, Italian distributor

Off-road tyre specialist BKT has reported two important new developments in its European operation since the start of this year. The first of these is the appointment of Lucia Salmaso, who as marketing director has directed strategic marketing and communication activities at BKT Europe srl since the start of 2009 and helped to establish the European subsidiary’s headquarters in Seregno, near Milan, Italy, as managing director of BKT Europe.

Conti growth ‘sets new records’

Continental Corporation says its 2011 sales, operating results and net income results “set new records.” Reporting at the company’s annual financial press conference on 1 March, l CEO Dr. Elmar Degenhart said in 2011 Continental “grew nearly twice as much as the relevant markets in almost all business areas and generated a sales increase of 17 per cent to 30.5 billion euros. At the same time, our operating result (EBIT) increased twice as fast as sales to approximately 2.6 billion euros. We significantly improved our EBIT margin from 7.4 per cent in the previous year to 8.5 per cent. For the first time since 2006, all divisions were in the black again despite of the acquisition-related write-downs that will continue up to and including 2014.” He further reported adjusted EBIT (adjusted in particular for acquisition-related write-downs and special effects) of “a good 3 billion euros” and a margin of 10.1 per cent, figures exceeding the forecast issued at the start of 2010.

Shandong Ling Long praised for Chinese volleyball support

Shandong Ling Long has been honoured in its home country for its sponsorship of China’s National Women’s Volleyball Team. The tyre maker was recognized during a China Central Television Sports Marketing Forum at the 7th annual Top Ten Classic Cases of Sports Marketing Awards. TGI adds Canada territory manager

Florida, US-based wholesaler Tire Group International has appointed Brett Romberg its new territory manager for Canada. TGI says Romberg’s new role can be viewed as part of the company’s development goals for the North American market. According to the wholesaler, Romberg has worked in varying industries and brings a significant amount of Canada-based commercial experience with him to this new role. “Brett is a welcomed addition to our ‘TGI family’ and his experience and skill set will help solidify our position in this market,” commented Orlando Delgado, senior vice-president of Sales and Marketing.
