Accuride introduces ‘Accu-Armor’ wheel treatment

Accuride Wheels has unveiled a new proprietary, multi-step, post-production treatment process that texturises, anodises and seals the surface of aluminium wheels. According to the Accuride Corp. subsidiary, this new ‘Accu-Armor’ treatment gives aluminium wheels highly a high level of resistance to scratching and scuffing and filiform corrosion from the high- and low-pH chemicals commonly used in truck washes, and common chemicals used in de-icing road surfaces. Accu-Armor aluminium wheels also are said to be durable under extended exposure to heat and UV light, will not chalk or fade, and are easy to clean.

Hankook sales, profits up in second quarter

Hankook Tire reports higher revenues and operating profit for the second quarter of 2012. The Korean tyre maker’s revenues rose 18.5 per cent year-on-year to KRW 1.84 trillion (£1.03 billion) in the three months to 30 June and operating profit jumped 112.1 per cent to KRW 215.5 billion (£121.15 million).

Southampton Audi wins Grouptyre/Pirelli F1 competition

Grouptyre’s latest prize draw promotion, in conjunction with Pirelli, has been won by Tyre Technician Sean O’Connor from Southampton Audi, part of the Harwoods Group based along the South Coast. O’Connor and his chosen guest Lee enjoyed the weekend’s action on 7-8 July at the 2012 Formula One Santander British Grand Prix at Silverstone, with overnight accommodation close to the circuit, and full hospitality at the event.

Hangzhou Zhongce joins ITMA

Its membership gives Hangzhong Zhongce access to the very latest technical and legislative regulations affecting the sale of tyres within Europe.

TGI takes on Central America, Caribbean Mastercraft distribution

Cooper Tire & Rubber has entered into a two-year exclusive agreement with US wholesaler Tire Group International (TGI) to distribute Mastercraft brand tyres throughout Central America and the Caribbean. As part of the agreement, which runs until December 2014, TGI will also provide marketing and sales support for Mastercraft in the form of product promotions and dealer training.

TGI to distribute Alliance’s Galaxy tyres in Latin America, Caribbean

Tire Group International and Alliance Tire Group have announced a distribution agreement that gives TGI exclusive distribution rights for Galaxy-brand tyres in Latin America and the Caribbean, with exception of Colombia and Ecuador. The distributor will offer Galaxy’s industrial, agricultural and off-the-road tyre lines as both direct factory shipments and fill-in from its distribution centre in Miami, Florida.

DriveRight joins TyreSafe

Independent wheel and tyre data provider DriveRight is the latest firm to sign up as a TyreSafe member. Although membership serves as official confirmation of DriveRight’s support, the company has been involved with TyreSafe for some time and supplies the data that goes into the safety association’s tyre pressure app. The app provides users with the correct tyre pressure for their car simply by entering their registration number and is, by the way, is available at the TyreSafe website or via the iTunes store.

TGI gains regional rights to Geotrac, Geostar and Milestar brands

US wholesaler Tire Group International has entered into an agreement with private brand marketing and distribution company Tireco that gives TGI the exclusive right to distribute Geotrac, Geostar and Milestar branded tyres throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. TGI will offer the aforementioned brands on a direct factory basis and also offer a fill-in program from its warehouse in Miami, Florida.

Govind Rubber expands with India plant, Netherlands subsidiary

Tyre and tube manufacturer Govind Rubber Limited has announced an 8.5 billion rupee (£97 million) expansion plan for its. GRL is setting up a Greenfield project in Gujurat, near Dahej, taking up most of the capital investment (approximately 7.5 billion rupees/£86 million). Chairman and managing director Vinod Poddar said “The plant will have a production capacity of 225 tonnes per day,”

Conti, SK Innovations battery JV a ‘strong team’ for future mobility

Yesterday, Korean firm SK Innovation and Germany’s Continental signed an agreement to create a jointly managed company. SK Innovation and Conti will respectively hold 51 per cent and 49 per cent shareholdings in this joint venture, which is being set up with the goal of mutually developing, producing and globally marketing lithium-ion battery systems for cars. This agreement comes half a year after the two companies signed a letter of intent.

Goodyear Dunlop renews contract with 70,000-strong TIP fleet

Goodyear Dunlop Tires Europe describes the renewal of its contract with GE Equipment Services Europe B.V. as being “one of the largest tyre deals in Europe.” The company initially won the tyre contract for GE’s TIP Trailer Services operation in 2006, and the renewed contract covers the supply and service of tyres for the 70,000 strong pan-European TIP fleet for the coming three years.

Linglong, Aeolus amongst top 500 Chinese brands

On 28 June brand valuation consultancy World Brand Lab announced its ninth annual list of China's 500 most valuable brands. Amongst the good and the great appearing on the list were Shandong Linglong Tyre and Aeolus Tyre, producers of the Linglong and Aeolus brands. It position in 128th place secured Shandong Linglong the highest ranking of any Chinese tyre maker. The company reports its brand equity as being RMB 11.652 billion (£1.18 billion). Aeolus Tyre climbed nine places from last year to 206th place, and boasts brand equity of RMB 6.416 billion (£648.41 million).
