Brembo has made a significant change to its aftermarket marketing adopting a new packaging concept. The packaging includes the faces of employees, marking a departure from the all-red box, which for more than ten years has been the face of Brembo in the Aftermarket. The message the company says it is trying to promote is that “Brembo believes in its products, and is not shy about saying so.”
Goodyear Dunlop’s truck tyre service and breakdown network, TruckForce has launched a Twitter feed, coinciding with the full introduction of EU tyre labelling legislation. Goodyear Dunlop said the feed will initially focus on providing information relating to commercial vehicle tyre labels, while also including relevant industry and Goodyear Dunlop news and advice on topics such as winter driving and improving fuel efficiency.
From 1 January 2013 Jeff Schumaker will take over as managing director of Cooper Tire Europe prior to Julian Baldwin’s retirement on 31 January. Baldwin’s retirement follows six years of leading Cooper Tire Europe and almost 20 years with the company.
“Jeff’s demonstrated leadership skills and broad range of competencies gained throughout his long and diverse career at Cooper Tire position him well to succeed Julian, who has accomplished a great deal in his years at the helm of Cooper Tire Europe,” said Hal Miller, president, International Tire Division. “Under Julian’s leadership, a high quality, cost-effective European manufacturing footprint was established and expanded with the recent opening of our new operation in Serbia. We thank Julian for his immense contributions and look forward to the strong leadership Jeff will bring to maximizing our opportunities throughout Europe and Russia.”
Pirelli will increase its British Superbike presence from 2013 when the manufacturer becomes the sole tyre supplier and title sponsor for National Superstock 1000 and 600 classes. The Triumph Triple Challenge series will also use Pirelli control tyres. The brand has been the single tyre supplier in the Superbike and Supersport categories since 2008. Pirelli will offer the Diablo Supercorsa tyres for all three championships.
Southwaite-based timber harvesting, marketing, and haulage company Sheffield & Co Ltd has reduced the frequency of annual tyre-related breakdowns from 35 to two. The company says the reduction is due to 18 months of work with Michelin technical manager Dan Lamb to adopt a bespoke tyre policy, with different pressures tailored for on-road and forestry work.
Trelleborg is launching three apps aimed to help farming professionals and tyre specialists get the most out of their agricultural and forestry tyres. According to the company, Trelleborg’s new Tire Book and Tire iBrochure apps are specially designed for tyre and machinery dealers. In addition, there is the Trelleborg Load Calculator app, which is designed to calculate load per axle according to a tractor’s configuration. The latest version of this includes the ability to recommend the optimum pressure for the selected application.
Michelin has appointed Jason Cooper as UK & Republic of Ireland operational sales manager for its truck and bus division. Cooper brings more than 17 years of experience with Michelin to the role. This includes the last 18 months as sales process and training manager for Michelin, and four years in a dual role as sales process and training manager and national sales manager for the car tyre product line in Delhi, India.
Lassa Tyres reports that it is continuing to increase its exposure amongst football fans and supporters of the English Premier League (EPL) with further sponsorship. This means Lassa will feature on LED advertising boards around the perimeter of the pitch during 19 away games of teams such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.
A new study has revealed that a shocking number of motorists still have a poor knowledge of tyres, which is putting lives at risk. The poll of 2,000 motorists commissioned by tyre manufacturer Goodyear revealed that over half of those surveyed didn't know that the legal limit for tyre tread depth is 1.6mm, 70 per cent said they didn't check their tyre pressure at least once a month and 13 per cent thought that stopping distances decreased in the wet weather. Furthermore checks on a total of 30,000 vehicles in 2012 showed that 53 per cent of the tyres that came off these vehicles were below the legal tread depth; a real concern for safety campaigners.
Nokian Tyres has informed stock exchanges that it will start statutory negotiations on 5 November 2012 to adjust production “to meet the market situation” at its Nokia plant. The company said it would aim to adjust the utilisation of the production capacity and create cost savings. The company said that the negotiations, which will affect 600 workers and staff in car tyre production, could amount to up to 45 job cuts.
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe Ltd has launched a new website, which will include new product information, video features and promote greater user-friendliness. Probably the most significant new feature at this time is the dedicated section on tyre labelling legislation. Cooper’s section on the legislation and how it impacts customers is central to the revamped website, clearly explaining the meaning of the different labels, and providing the customer with an accurate understanding of the new legislation.
Infinity Tyres used the occasion of Brityrex 2012 to meet with industry figures from the UK and beyond, and to discuss current business topics with many UK dealers. Its stand displayed, for the first time in the UK, the new Infinity Ecosis and Ecomax tyre ranges which will be available to purchase in the final months of 2012. The brand also made its presence felt at the entrance to the exhibition, where the Infinity-sponsored Acorn Motorsport 2013 season drift race car was on display.
Wheel supplier, Wheelwright said that its expectations had been exceeded at Brityrex, having chosen to demonstrate the features of its new website and the benefits of premium quality wheels. The company also took the show as an opportunity to communicate its current corporate logo and branding, having removed the “Alcar” portion of its name in 2011. Speaking with Tyres & Accessories, Wheelwright managing director, Kevin Greer said it was important to get out in the market to do this because of the residual “old-style marketing” still present in the UK, but mainly to emphasise Wheelwright’s “differentiation from other brands” with what he described as a “modern, clinical” CI strategy.
Long-time supporter of the Brityrex show, Kings Road Tyres had one of the exhibition’s more imposing stands, located next to the entrance, while associated brands, Uniroyal, for which it has the UK licence, Aeolus and Antyre – Chinese brands for which the wholesale part of KRT is the exclusive distributor in the UK – were present with stands of their own. Added to the “multi-brand presence” promised by Purchasing and Marketing manager, Tim Bader on the company’s own stand, featuring “the latest from Matador, Taurus, Cooper 4×4 and Aeolus Truck Tyres,” the company represented its truck, bus, agricultural, industrial and 4×4 ranges strongly.
