Salvadori offering new retreading/repair ranges

Italian family-run business Salvadori SRL, which was established in the 1980s, reports a growing global demand from customers. In order to satisfy this, and to combine its retreading and tyre recycling activities in the one location, the firm recently moved to new, larger headquarters and warehouse buildings. Furthermore, Salvadori has announced details of its investment in two brand new production projects, both of which are expected to boost the company’s competitiveness and the quality of its product/service portfolio. The stated primary aim of this investment is to offer customers retreading and tyre repair accessories that are both competitively-priced and, through the application of production and quality controls, products that the customer can rely upon.

Hankook aiming for 12-15% US market share

GT Radial to debut first city bus tyre at CV Show

GT Radial has announced that it will debut its first all position urban city-bus tyre at its CV Show stand (A60) in Hall Five on 9-11 April at the Birmingham NEC. The GAU861 has a reinforced sidewall to improve curbing and impact damage resistance, the manufacturer says, while the new tyre will start with a 20.2mm tread depth. As well as promoting the new product, GT Radial says it will be presenting its commercial vehicle roadside service assistance programme, GT Assist, launched in December 2012.

A new Michelin landmark for Le Mans

The main straight of the Le Mans 24 Hours circuit is to gain a strong Michelin presence. The French tyre maker has entered into an agreement with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) to be the exclusive partner for the new standings tower erected beside the pit-lane exit on the main straight. This 25-metre tall edifice will display the provisional order throughout the race and will be known as the “Michelin Ranking Tower”.

Hankook wins 2013 iF Design award

Hankook Tire has been awarded two iF Design Awards for its Ventus S1 evo2 Motion Graphic Brochure and Eco Motion Graphic Brochure animated product films. Both have both been awarded the 2013 iF Design Award in the ‘communication’ category. This marks the third time that Hankook has received the internationally recognised design award; the tyre maker also gained this distinction in 2009 and 2011.

Infinity steps up Drift team sponsorship

Infinity is increasing its involvement with the Acorn Motorsport team in the 2013 Maxxis British Drift Championship. Reflecting the company’s sponsorship and race tyre support, the team will compete in the 2013 championship under the new banner of Acorn Infinity Motorsports. AIM will run double the number of cars this season to four, challenging in all three classes – Semi Professional, Professional and Super Professional – with the goal of improving on last year’s fourth position in the constructor’s table.

Trelleborg joins sustainability project

Trelleborg Wheel Systems reports it is participating in the ‘Zero Impact’ project organised by Italian organisation LifeGate. Zero Impact is a project that calculates and compensates for non-reducible CO2 emissions resulting from human activities, such as the manufacture of products. The idea behind Zero Impact is that environmental impact assessments are used to measure the affect of a particular activity, and participating companies can support the offset of this through the creation and protection of forest growth.

Bridgestone sponsoring V8 Supercars team

A return to Australia’s V8 Supercars Championship awaits Bridgestone in 2013, with the tyre maker teaming up with Nissan Motorsport in a sponsorship deal that will see Bridgestone branding on the Jack Daniel's Racing Nissan Altimas of Todd and Rick Kelly. The arrangement begins in round one of this year’s series, which gets underway in Adelaide on 28 February. The Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide marks the return of Nissan to Australia's premier motorsport category after a 20-year hiatus, with Mercedes-Benz also joining the expanded series.

Michelin joins Industrial Cadets programme

Michelin is one of several north Staffordshire companies to join an initiative to give young people an insight into potential careers in industry. The scheme, entitled “Industrial Cadets”, is a response to the concerns of engineering and manufacturing companies, who say there is a skills shortage in this area, affecting the sector’s ability to expand. Initially launched in Redcar by Tata Steel and supported by the Prince of Wales, Industrial Cadets is being rolled out nationally by the Engineering Development Trust (EDT).

Slow start to the year for UK motorbike sales

UK motorcycle sales were down 14 per cent in January, compared with the same month last year. According to the National Motorcycle Dealers Association, poor sales can be attributed to the “arctic weather” that affected much of the country during the middle of month.

BKT strengthens European marketing management

BKT Europe has announced the appointment of Gabriella Usiello to the role of marketing and communication manager. Usiello joined the BKT Europe team in January and brought with her more than ten years of marketing experience, including with a multinational company active in the off-highway and passenger car tyre segments. This experience was instrumental in the decision to select Usiello for the role, the tyre maker notes. In her new position, the marketing and communication manager will engage in strategic marketing and consolidate BKT’s market position with the help of an effective, interconnected communications plan.

Kumho to supply Chinese touring car series

Under a three-year agreement, Kumho Tire will act as sponsor and official tyre supplier to the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC). The championship, which gets underway for the 2013 season at the Zhuhai International Circuit on 12 May, is supported by the FIA and the FASC (Federation of Automobile Sports of the People's Republic of China) and features premium level touring car racers. Races attract more than 10,000 spectators and the state-run broadcaster Chinese Central Television holds exclusive rights to the series.

Dunlop moto appoints new US sales manager

Dunlop’s motorcycle tyre management team in the US has been expanded by the appointment of Cary Budzinski as its new general manager of sales. Budzinski begins his new role with more than 26 years at Goodyear’s retail store and consumer business units behind him; most recently he served as general manager of dealer development for Goodyear’s Consumer business unit. In his new position, Budzinski will report to Mike Buckley, Senior vice-president sales/marketing & R&D. Reporting to Cary will be Scott Dewey, Phil Waters, Fred Hassen and the rest of Dunlop’s sales force.
