(Akron/Tire Review) Delphi Corp. appointed Brian Altenberger as global director of marketing for its Delphi Product & Service Solutions unit. Altenberger replaces Lucia Moretti who was recently named managing director for Delphi’s Aftermarket operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa. In his new role, Altenberger will be responsible for global marketing for Delphi’s aftermarket product lines, distribution strategy and business planning.
Goodyear has appointed Pierre Jambon as general manager, global aviation. In his new role, Jambon will run the company’s global aviation business, overseeing the development, manufacture and marketing of aviation tyres for use as original equipment, replacement and military applications.
Since joining Goodyear in January of 2004, Jambon has served as the director of finance planning and analysis for the North American Tire business unit.
Fast fit network, Hi-Q has recently signed up to be a partner organisation in a new campaign aimed at ensuring drivers aren’t left stranded in the event of a breakdown. The Goodyear ‘Drive Home Safely’ offers drivers practical advice on what to do if stranded, or if being followed. The campaign also aims to create a network of ‘safety zones’ where drivers can go to receive free preventative safety checks on their vehicle.
Group Tyre (UK) Ltd is to exclusively distribute Marangoni passenger car and light truck tyres in the UK mainland. The move will allow Group Tyre to offer the independent sector a European manufactured product with premium brand quality but offering better value for money, the wholesale operation said in an official statement.
“The addition of the Marangoni brand to our portfolio illustrates our commitment to offer our customers a full range of quality brands. We believe that we can develop Marangoni in the UK market to emulate the success it has achieved in the rest of Europe, and that Marangoni will contribute to our continued success in the independent sector,” commented Group Tyre chairman, John Church.

SmarTire Systems Inc has announced that it has signed a contract with Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group to market and sell SmarTire’s tyre pressure and temperature monitoring systems to the commercial truck, bus and RV markets.

Now, chief executive officer, Kenji Murai has broken silence, announcing efficiency cuts and $25 million of investment designed to set “Stapletons apart from its competitors…into 2006 and beyond.”
On the 11 October Stapletons announced that it plans to close its Dereham tyre distribution centre (TDC), cut around 50 jobs and introduce new stock distribution methods at its Bristol, Coatbridge and Warrington TDCs. Tuschner, who joined Denman in 1999, was previously the company’s mid-central regional sales manager. In his new position, Tuschner will be responsible for formulating market plans, product planning and positioning, new product development and service, and assisting in international business development, as well as market research, competitor analyses and developing customer retention initiatives.
Joseph P Felicelli, executive vice president, Aftermarket products and services, has announced the appointment of Mauro Parisi to the position of vice president, Aftermarket, Europe, Middle East and Africa, effective immediately.
A prototype hybrid U.S. Air Force aircraft refueller truck built on a Mack Truck chassis features a new mixed-service tyre from Goodyear.
Goodyear Unisteel G287 MSA tyres (315/80R22.5) are mounted in the steer position on the 6,000-gallon refueller. Mack Trucks Inc. and the U.S. Air Force Advanced Power Technology Office developed the hybrid diesel-electric truck. Eight Goodyear Unisteel G286 tyres (12R22.5) are mounted on the vehicle’s rear drive axles.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has announced plans to launch a new airship in the spring of 2006 to be deployed to its Pompano Beach, Florida operation. The new airship has been in production for the past two years as a previously scheduled 2006 replacement for the Stars & Stripes, which has operated in Florida since 1992.
