Bridgestone to Present Fleet Tyre Programme at CV Show

Bridgestone is to present its Total Fleet Tyre Management program at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, held at the NEC in April. And what’s more the company has built a brand “state-of-the-art stand” to highlight the fleet tyre management programme. Bridgestone will showcase its new generation truck tyre range, fleet services and focus on the support offered to fleets through their Total Fleet Tyre Management package. The stand will also exhibit a race winning F1 car and a MotoGP motorcycle.

Hankook Europe Names Hee-Se Ahn VP Sales & Marketing

Hankook Tire Europe has elected Hee-Se Ahn (48) as Vice-President of Sales & Marketing for the tyre manufacturer’s European regional headquarters, located in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt/Germany. He succeeds Byeong-Jin Lee who has moved to a new management position at the group’s headquarters in Seoul/Korea. Mr Ahn’s responsibilities will include successfully integrating the company’s new 500 million euro Hungarian production plant into its future European marketing strategy.

Bosal Publishes New Exhaust Catalogue

The latest edition of Bosal UK’s exhaust catalogue has been launched with a range of exhaust systems and cats for over 98 per cent of the European car parc, making it the most comprehensive in the motor trade. The 1,000 page catalogue contains details of over 4,700 fully type-approved systems, over 300 of which are new from the last edition. There are listings for almost 600 new exhaust parts, including pipes, silencers, mountings and accessories and 138 new catalytic converters plus details of development items due for release during the two-year life of the new catalogue.

Continental Relaunches ContiNetwork CV Tyre Retail Business

Continental has relaunched its ContiNetwork UK commercial vehicle tyre retail operation. The new-look ContiNetwork numbers 55 members, covering 75 specific territories across the UK. 12 members were lost during the transition period, being replaced by a further 12. According to Continental Tyre Group commercial vehicle sales and marketing director Arthur Gregg, the updated network offers a more balanced offering for dealer partners; and allows the flexibility for dealers to custom-make partner arrangements.

Cooper Tire Appoints General Manager, Mickey Thompson

A new general manager has been appointed to Cooper Tire & Rubber subsidiary Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels. Steve Kersh, most recently based in Melksham as Cooper Tire’s director of European sales and marketing, will oversee all aspects of Mickey Thompson operations, including finance, human resources, sales and marketing, supply chain, information technology and business development.

Kersh joined the company in 1993 as a production supervisor, and has served as a management trainee at the Bowling Green, Ohio, hose plant; as international customer service coordinator; international sales trainee; territory manager, international sales; regional manager, international sales; and manager of international sales. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and a master’s in business administration from The University of Findlay, in Ohio.

Vicki Tillson New Lassa UK Sales Manager

Lassa Tyres has appointed Vicki Tillson as its new UK Sales Manager. Based from her home in South Yorkshire, Vicki will cover the entire Lassa UK distributor network. One of the key objectives for Vicki and Lassa in 2008 will be to assess the current UK distributor channel and to ensure the most appropriate partners are appointed to represent the Lassa brand. Tillson previously worked with well-known wholesaler operations Stapleton’s and Micheldever.

Martin West, Lassa International Director of Marketing and Business Development, commented – “We are delighted to welcome Vicki to the team. She is well regarded within the tyre industry and we look forward to her leading the development of the Lassa brand within the UK distributor and wholesale market.”

CMA States its Case on Duty Investigation

Double Coin/CMA issued the following statement regarding the preliminary determination of the US Department of Commerce in its the investigation of potential countervailing/anti-dumping of OTR tyres manufactured in China.

“Double Coin/CMA feels strongly against the recent ruling as it pertains to their Radial OTR products. We have been involved in the investigation since its inception, presenting data as a manufacturer and an importer of record to the ITC/DOC. We did so because Double Coin adamantly knew that it does not dump product into the US or any country. We knew the facts would be revealed. After the ITC’s initial phase of investigation, Double Coin was not selected as a mandatory organisation to be reviewed by the DOC.

Interstate Names New Sales & Marketing Coordinator

Interstate Tire & Rubber Company has promoted sales team member Michel Gerard Richardson to the position of Sales & Marketing Coordinator, effective January 1st, 2008. In his new capacity Mr. Richardson will be in charge of all office activities and will coordinate the company’s sales and marketing operations. On announcing his appointment, the company praised Richardson’s previous work in the Telecommunications Industry. The 35 year old has a tertiary background in international business management, and hailing from the Caribbean, speaks English and Spanish fluently.

Interstate is confident that, with this new appointment, the company will be in a position to improve service and continue the successful development of the Interstate brand around the globe.

Van Essche New Goodyear Europe Retread Manager

Goodyear’s European operation, Goodyear Dunlop Tires Europe, has appointed former Bandag Europe executive Danny van Essche to the position of retread manager EU. Mr. van Essche joined the company on February 1, and is based at Goodyear’s European head office in Brussels.

The position of retread manager EU was held by David McMillan until his sudden death last year, and van Essche joins the company following a decade at Bandag EMEA, where he was employed as director of marketing. He left the retreader in September 2006, taking with him considerable experience in the managing of fleet programmes, developing dealer networks and distribution management, and developing new product lines.

Rotary Unveils Ultra-Low Profile Lift

Rotary Lift launched the SL210-MP8 Moveable Pad SmartLift, an in-ground lift the company said “makes raising a car for service faster and easier than ever.”

With an ultra-low profile of 2 3/8 inches reduces scraping the undersides of lower profile vehicles on the lift superstructure. Rotary said.

“Our customers asked us for a lift that will help increase their technicians’ productivity by reducing the time needed to properly position and raise a vehicle,” said Jim Dirksen, Rotary vice president of sales and marketing. “This is a perfect for quick service operations, and since the vehicle wheels are free, and not directly engaging the lift, it can also be used for tyre and brake work, as well as routine maintenance.”

Autogem Hosts Playstation F1 Competition

To mark the forthcoming 2008 F1 season, Autogem will be hosting a series of online Playstation 3 (PS3) races for its customers, staff and suppliers. The idea is to host an ongoing competition that replications the season’s tour of real-life F1 circuits in the virtual world. Autogem is offering prizes for the 2008 championship, which is totally free of charge.

As Autogem’s managing partner Prashant Chopra explained: “We already have a select number of colleagues and friends within the industry that go absolutely bananas racing so we thought we’d put together a championship of our own and have some fun. Each race will coincide with actual races in the season and we already have a good online turnout. With prizes on offer and bragging rights to win for, come online and see if youre really as good as you think you are!”

Ceat Still Confident of Attracting Partners

Much was said during the course of 2007 about Ceat’s plans for new greenfield facilities, particularly the company’s unsuccessful attempts to secure a joint venture partner for a truck and bus radial plant. The new year sees this pattern continue, and on February 8 India’s Hindu Business Line reported that the company is seeking “international players” as equity partners in two new greenfield projects.

Vice-president for Sales & Marketing, Arnab Banerjee, told the paper that Ceat is in talks with several such companies, and as part of the deal the Indian manufacturer would hold a majority share in any venture. “We should be able to finalise the partners soon. The production should start within a couple of years,” he said.

Kumho Tyres to Sponsor Air Ambulance Conference

Kumho Tyres raised funds for the Association of Air Ambulance Charities (AAAC) throughout 2007, and at this year’s Autosport International show in Birmingham presented AAAC chairman David Philpott with a cheque for £4,650. Now, as a further gesture of support, the tyremaker will sponsor the first ever AAAC annual conference, to be held on 10th and 11th November 2008.

Speaking on behalf of the charities, Mr. Philpott said “We are thrilled to be associated with Kumho Tyres, a world class brand that shares our association’s commitment to excellence and quality. We look forward to an ongoing partnership in months to come.” Kumho Tyre (UK) marketing director John Thrupp added that “Kumho Tyres is delighted to support the AAAC and the vital service its members provide to us all in the UK, and to motorists in particular.”
