Prices for rubber retreading materials sold by Marangoni’s Retreading Systems division will increase by four to eight per cent, depending on product category, in all European markets invoiced in euros. Prices will also rise in non-euro countries such as the UK, however at a different rate. The new price structure will be implemented this month.

Prices for products from Marangoni Industrial Tyres will increase by up to six per cent as of tomorrow. The company states that new pricing has “become necessary” due to the growing cost of raw materials, particularly natural rubber, in recent months, as well as euro weakness against the US dollar.
The Marangoni Group and UAE-based conglomerate the Onyx Group, through its subsidiary Ceylon Steel Corporation (CSCL), have signed a binding Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to the industrial tyre market. Upon announcing the MoU’s signing, Marangoni states that this represents “a further step in the strategy of Onyx Group to invest in the tyre sector, with the objective of becoming the largest tyre manufacturer in Sri Lanka and serving both local and international markets.”
Marangoni Retreading Systems has expanded its business in Spain through a new partnership with regional retreader Recauchutados Fidel. The company, which has been in the business since 1982 and operates a retreading plant and three dealers in Salamanca province, has selected Marangoni products and technology for its customers.
Earlier this month, the green technologies expo Ecomondo took place in Rimini, Italy, and the Marangoni Group was once again present as an exhibitor.
Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Steel Corporation Limited is to receive 100 acres for the tyre factory it is setting up with technical assistance from Marangoni. The land is being acquired by the Urban Development Authority of Sri Lanka, which will lease it to Ceylon Steel for a 99-year period.
Outgoing chief executive officer Massimo De Alessandri will remain involved with the Marangoni Group for at least “the next few months,” the Italian retreading company confirmed to Tyres & Accessories. His continued engagement covers a “phase of the organisational transition,” including the appointment of new chief executive officer Dino Maggioni.
Several new products have joined the Marangoni winter portfolio. The Italian retreading supplier states that these treads “offer similar performance” to high quality brand new tyres, and thus represent “the best alternative by far” for those seeking a combination of reliability, high mileage and lower cost.
Dino Maggioni has been named the new chief executive officer of the Marangoni Group. He succeeds Massimo De Alessandri in this role and was appointed by the company’s board after approval was granted at a shareholder meeting. During the meeting, the company’s statutory charter was also modified to increase the number of directors to eight board members.
The Marangoni Group was represented by its Industrial Tyre business unit at the IMHX 2016 show in Birmingham last month, and the company states that exhibiting at the logistics trade fair was “critical for the Marangoni Group to pursue further growth in the British market and areas of influence.”
A new Marangoni business unit will be formally introduced at the K 2016 trade fair in Germany later this month. The new unit has been named Marangoni Technical Compounds, and Marangoni says its establishment is the result of an investment process in technology, training, and qualifications launched five years ago, and is part of the company’s strategy to penetrate the European technical compounds market with a strong partnership between its Italian and German production sites.
Last month, a number of publications in Sri Lanka shared news that the Marangoni Group would invest US$75 million to boost its production capacity for industrial tyres within the country. The Italian firm has commented on these reports and clarified that the investment in question only involves Marangoni indirectly.
Vittorio Marangoni has taken over as president of Marangoni SpA. His appointment to the position was confirmed at a meeting of the retreading and tyre machinery specialist’s Board of Directors late last month. The Board also named Giuseppe Marangoni the company’s new vice-president, while company founder Mario Marangoni received the title of honorary president as a mark of respect for his more than 60 years of commitment in leading the Marangoni Group.
Local news reports suggest Marangoni is investing $75 million in expanding industrial tyre manufacturing in Sri Lanka. The reports add detail to official announcements about increased Eltor EVO for the forklift tyre production capacity made in May.
