Marangoni opens new Ringtread Facility in Florida

On 12 June 2019 a delegation of 30 bus company managers from all over Hungary attended a Marangoni Ringtread presentation hosted by Énykk at their headquarters.
Marangoni has spun off its Meccanica, which designs and manufactures tyre-making equipment. According to a company statement received on 14 June 2019, Marangoni Meccanica has now, therefore, been separated from the main body of the Marangoni Group.
With the launch of its latest range of pre-cure treads, Marangoni Retreading Systems has fully integrated its European product lines. The new range only includes two brands – PRL and Unitread – and Marangoni says this will lead to a “significant reduction of the complexity previously caused by product overlaps.”
Marangoni Tread North America (M.T.N.A.) is preparing for a change of leadership. Bill Sweatman, the company’s president and chief executive officer, will retire on 1 May and be succeeded by Clif Armstrong.
Marangoni’s Ringtread retreading process doesn’t yet have a sizeable footprint within India’s large commercial vehicle sector, but it is growing. The Marangoni GRP Private Limited (MGPL) joint venture that was established in late 2015 recently took on its fourth franchise partner in India. Marangoni says it is also progressing with plans to add a further four franchise partners.
This week a meeting took place at Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development to discuss the future of the workforce and production at the Marangoni S.p.A. plants in Rovereto and Ferentino. The meeting was attended by representatives from the retreading specialist, local government, trade unions and Italian bank Medio Credito Centrale.

The Marangoni Group has acquired a majority shareholding, 51 per cent, in the South African tread maker Leader Rubber Company SA (Pty) Ltd. The move is the latest development in the decade-long partnership between Leader Rubber and Marangoni. The Italian company acquired a 25 per cent share in the company in 2015, a move it described as the “culmination of a partnership that has been ongoing for several years.”

Marangoni Tread North America is adding capacity to manufacture its XP Extreme Performance wide base Ringtread in the US – specifically at its tread manufacturing plant in Tennessee. According to the company, the move is being made to meet business demand from independent retreaders, Marangoni is expanding.
Marangoni Spa and Borrachas Vipal SA have announced that the two retreading material suppliers have entered into a partnership agreement aimed at “increasing the synergies and productivity, strengthening the industrial and commercial organisation of both groups”. Details of precisely what this means are still scarce but, according to a statement issued by Marangoni, this will lead to the creation of “the largest global independent player in the tyre retreading sector”.
Global motorsport tyre brand Dmack has announced that it will “open its own tyre manufacturing facility” in Italy, following a deal to use part of Marangoni’s Rovereto plant in northern Italy. The Carlisle-based brand said it would be “capable of producing up to 250,000 tyres per year” at Rovereto, with the “flexibility to tailor short production runs for very specific applications and to meet demands for control tyre championships.” The company adds that it wants to transfer its technical capability into racing by producing world-class products for the circuit racing and track markets. Most famous for supplying tyres to the FIA World Rally Championship since 2011, Dmack tyres were previously produced by Chinese manufacturer, Shandong Yongtai, which recently went into administration, before shifting to Cooper Tires’ UK factory in Melksham, which itself is set to reduce production by a half when it halts production of road-going light vehicle tyres next year.
Marangoni Tread Latino America has been accredited with INMETRO certification for its RingTread and Unitread pre-cure retreading materials production. Certification came after an independent assessment of Marangoni’s production plant in Brazil by Instituto Falcão Bauer, an accredited certification body in Brazil.
Since late 2015, the Marangoni Ringtread process has been represented in India by Marangoni GRP, a joint venture between the Marangoni Group and India rubber recycler GRP. The joint venture operation has now begun the rollout of a network of franchised retreaders within the country – the first, Autobahn Retreading, has opened its doors in the city of Kochi (Cochin). The Autobahn Retreading plant was officially inaugurated by Giuseppe Marangoni, vice-president of the Marangoni Group, together with GRP’s chief executive officer, Harsh Gandhi.
After less than two years in the job, Dino Maggioni has chosen to step down as chief executive officer of Marangoni S.p.A. and also leave all other positions he held within the group. According to a statement issued by the company, Maggioni’s departure follows a review of the “strategical directions that were assigned to Mr Dino Maggioni in the autumn of 2016.”
