(Akron/Tire Review) Marangoni Tread North America Inc. has added four new Ringtread plants in the Northeast, Sourtheast, North Central and Northwest regions of the US
Two of the new plants were converted from competitive precure systems, said Marangoni, while the other two are additional facilities opened by existing Ringtread dealers.
Marangoni Tread has added five 70 series tread designs to its range of Ringtread precured tread rings.
The launch reflects “continuing and rapid growth in the importance of 70 series fitments across Western Europe,” says Marangoni, adding that the segment now accounts for 5.9 per cent of 22.5 inch tyre sales across the region.
VMI has developed a new tyre building system, designed to produce lot sizes as small as one tyre. The company behind the technology, launched at Tyre Technology 2005 in Cologne, claims it can improve quality, reduce cost and minimize floor space. The company reports that a single unit capable of making 1200 tyres a day, requires three staff and occupies significantly less floor space than the conventional equivalent.
Four years after launching the Meteo Esc, Marangoni Tyre has updated its winter tyre range by releasing the Meteo HP passenger car tyre. As the name suggests, the Italian company’s latest product is designed as a high performance winter offering. The new tyre will be available in time for next season (2005/2006) in 15 popular sizes with indices mainly between T and H, but with three going all the way up to V. The Meteo HP will be available in 15 to 18 inch diameters and in 65 to 40 series ratios. Tyres & Accessories spoke to Marangoni Tyre’s global sales and marketing director, Derek Carruthers, and asked how the company planned to market its new winter tyre in the UK.
Italian tyre manufacturer Marangoni presented its latest winter tyre to members of the European press last week. The Meteo HP was launched in the South Tirole region of Italy and will be aimed squarely at the high performance segment. The new tyre type will be available in time for next season (2005/2006) in 15 popular sizes with indices mainly between T and H, but with three going all the way up to V. Bridgestone Retread Systems is relatively new to the retreading market, having entered the sector in the past year through a joint venture between Bridgestone and Marangoni/Ellerbrock. The idea behind the new company was to bring together and direct Bridgestone’s retreading activities in Europe from a central point; hence its location in Brussels. The joint venture with Marangoni Tread and its German subsidiary, Ellerbrock Tyre Retreading Technology, allows the Japanese manufacturer to cast its retreading net even further; and it can now offer its partners the support and assistance to gain the ECE 109 and the ISO 9001-2000 certifications.

Bridgestone Europe NV/SA announced today, that it has formed a new subsidiary company, Bridgestone Retread Systems NV/SA, in a joint venture with Italian retread specialist Marangoni Tread S.p.A as minority partner. The new company, headed by Managing Director Ing. Marcello Gambarini, will have its dedicated headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
Marangoni Tread’s factory at Madison, Tennessee has begun producing Ringtread spliceless precure tread rings. The timing is impeccable, as Marangoni’s business in North America continues to grow, with this year so far 50 per cent higher than 2003. The 50,000 square foot factory is part of a $10 million investment by Marangoni in US manufacturing, supplying the 15 Ringtread dealers currently operating in North America.
After the fire that completely destroyed the production plant at Marangoni’s German subsidiary Ellerbrock, North of Hamburg three weeks ago, the well known retread technology producer has stopped worrying about the past. Rather, Ellerbrock is occupied with plans for the future. The immediate goal is to reconstruct the plant by the end of next year, company officials told T&A. They didn’t reveal the total investment but will ensure that the new plant will process at least as much rubber as the old one, i.e. 15,000 tons per year. According to the plans, Ellerbrock’s new plant will become the most modern in Europe. In the meantime, 20 employees have been posted to two Marangoni plants in Italy in order to prevent the company from encountering delivery difficulties. For the first few weeks after the fire, Ellerbrock has been doing business from the stock.
Early this morning fire broke out at Ellerbrock Tread in Henstedt-Ulzburg. The 6,500 square metre production hall has fallen victim to the flames. There are approximately 200 fire-fighters on site fighting the fire and it is expected that it will take the whole weekend to bring the fire under control. According to the local radio station in Schleswig-Holstein damage is estimated to run to approximately 15 million Euro. Marketing and sales director Dirk Rohmann stated at the factory gates in Hamburg that it was too early to state the extent of the damage. The fire had damaged the production facility but only after the fire is completely extinguished will the full extent of the damage be assessed. The cause of the fire is not known at present.
The Mercedes-Benz CLK cabriolet is the first vehicle to come from the design partnership between the vehicle manufacturer and designer Giorgio Armani. The car will be fitted with Marangoni Zeta Linea tyres but, instead of the usual black, these tyres will be green in colour to complement the car’s sand-coloured matt paintwork.
