Marangoni Meccanica, the division of the Marangoni Group responsible for designing and developing new tyre technology, has recently inaugurated a new facility in Roverto, Italy. The new 11,000 m² facility will house approximately 80 employees involved in large research projects related to developing new hardware and ideas.
Italy’s Marangoni has launched a campaign to enlighten UK drivers on the benefits of thinking Marangoni when selecting new tyres. Following on from its successful “Intelligent Professionals” series, the new campaign links Marangoni’s position as a premium brand with the company’s Lifetime Tyre Warranty, a strong selling point.
Derek Carruthers, Global Sales & Marketing Director for Marangoni’s car tyre division, said “Communicating the Marangoni message to potential customers before they have made a decision on replacement tyres is fundamental.” He added that the company was attempting not only to build brand awareness but to also demonstrate that buying Marangoni tyres is a win/win situation for the customer in that they will receive both European quality and the peace of mind afforded by their Lifetime Tyre Warranty.
Marangoni tyres’ Progetto Marangoni – the tyremaker’s joint project with tuning magazine Redline – is off to an inspired start. The Progetto Marangoni, which has set out to create what Marangoni hopes will be the ‘toughest, meanest and hottest Toyota Yaris ever’, received so many styling ideas from Redline readers that the criteria for judging needed to be revised.
The Marangoni Group is one of the sponsors of Mittomacchina, a major exhibition dedicated to the history of car design, which is being held at Mart, the modern and contemporary art museum of Trento and Rovereto, until May 1st 2007.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition on 2 December, Mario Marangoni, president – Marangoni Group, said: “For over 50 years our Group has believed in tyres and has educated its people and developed new technologies to be able to handle every aspect and every phase of a tyre’s life cycle.”
Verso is the new passenger car tyre from Marangoni, which the company says is the result of a long process of product development and improvement. The target market for this T, H, V and W-rated tyre is broad; the sizes in the Verso line cover more than 45 per cent of the European market for replacement summer car tyres.
The Marangoni Research Centre focused on the progressive fine-tuning of ideas, materials and technologies. The key characteristic of Verso’s design is the progressive elimination of every superfluous element, concentrating on refining only the essential characteristics. This evolutionary process begins with the tyre’s name: because in Italian Verso means “towards”. Marangoni tyres were showcased at Birmingham’s recent Classic Car Show after the tyre maker reached an agreement with the publisher Octane Media Ltd. The publisher, who produces both Octane and MG Enthusiast Magazine, opted to fit Marangoni Zeta Linea tyres to the centrepiece of the MG Enthusiast stand – their MGF project, the subject of a free-to-enter Prize Draw competition.
A unique partnership with publisher Octane Media Ltd at the recent Classic Car Show held at Birmingham’s NEC, signalled Marangoni’s commitment to the UK historic vehicle movement, now worth £3.2 billion annually. The publisher’s stand featured both Octane and MG Enthusiast Magazine, with the MGF project car – the subject of a free-to-enter Prize Draw competition – shod with Marangoni Zeta Linea tyres.

East midlands-based We Sell Tyres (wholesale) company is moving its Newark wholesale operation to larger premises situated in Colwick, Nottingham. The move is due to take place in early 2007. The new premises which cover a total of over 40,000 square feet are within easy reach of central Nottingham and will further improve the company’s stock holding facility and existing delivery service into Derbyshire and surrounding areas.
At the end of the 2006 season, Italian tyre manufacturer Marangoni had good reason to break out the champagne for the third successive year with a second win in the Italian Hill Climb Championship, following previous success in 2004 and additional success in the European Hill Climb Championship of 2005. Champion Simone Faggioli totally dominated the series throughout the season, exclusively using Marangoni Zeta Linea racing tyres on his way to his fourth major Italian title in his Facetti-built Osella PA21S.
Marangoni are pitching their Mythos UHP tyres directly into the hot performance market with a unique media project partnered by top tuning magazine Redline. Progetto Marangoni is the name of the project for a radical, no-holds barred makeover of a Toyota Yaris, shod with Marangoni rubber. The Yaris will sport a mid-engined 300bhp Toyota MR2 Turbo – and that’s just the start.

Driving 8,000km through desert and bandit country in a 998cc 1989 Nissan Micra might not appeal to everyone, but two students from Buckinghamshire – with the support of Marangoni Tyre, Broadway Tyres and M&M Autos – are doing just that, all in the name of charity. Billed as ‘The Greatest Adventure in the World’, the Mongol Rally is a real test of courage and initiative, as there is no entourage of support vehicles or carefully marked courses. The 2005 rally was a massive success, despite only 14 entrants completing the trek. Competitors will travel across deserts and on roads that range from bad to non-existent to reach their final destination, and will prove to be an exceptional test for the Marangoni 155/70 T13 Trio tyres.
The use of winter tyres for the cold season has become widespread among European users in the last few years. The information gained is used to ensure performance, comfort and safety are optimised for everyday drivers. The main difference is that the identity of Marangoni’s ‘Stig’ is not shrouded in mystery – he is in fact former F3 driver and European GT Champion, Cristiano del Balzo – the current Director of the Italian equivalent of the MSA, the CSAI Velocità.
Together with the Scottish retreader Alba Tyres, Marangoni Tread has shown that it is possible to put retreaded tyres through harsh conditions. This is demonstrated by the fact that the Malcolm Group, the biggest fleet of items of heavy plant in the UK, has been using the Ringtread technology for 24 years and is more than satisfied with the performance of the Italian retreaded tyres.
Marangoni has embarked on its second advertising campaign for 2006, continuing the ‘intelligence’ theme which has become synonymous with the brand. The campaign features high quality imagery of ‘intelligent’ animals, with their key abilities reflecting the attributes of the Marangoni Mythos UHP tread pattern.
