MTNA Creates New Sales Region, Appoints New Managers

Marangoni Tread North America (MTNA) reports that it experienced record sales in 2007 and anticipates continued incremental growth. The company adds that increasing its salesperson to dealer ratio is viewed as a priority, and thus MTNA has created an additional US sales region, to give the company a total of four; Northeast, Southeast, Central, West. A new region sales manager, Doug Edwardsen, will be responsible for the newly established Central region. Edwardsen, a former Bandag Executive, has worked within the tyre and retreading industry in the US and Canada for over 25 years and possesses, reports MTNA, extensive experience in the distribution and development of fleet and dealer sales.

Marangoni Aims to Take Tuning Market by Storm

Marangoni has announced major sponsorship deals with Santa Pod Raceway at Autosport International 2008. This begins with Marangoni being title sponsor of the first major tuning show of 2008, The Fast Show on 9 March, then associate sponsor of Jap Show on 22 June. Marangoni will then be title sponsor of 3-day USC tuning show between 1 – 3 August 2008. Marangoni is making its debut appearance at Autosport International in association with Santa Pod Raceway on Stand 12790 in the ‘Piston Head Halls’ (11 and 12). Highlighting the Marangoni presence will be the sensational headline-grabbing Progetto Marangoni Toyota Yaris that has uniquely linked the go-faster, tuning and enthusiast markets directly with a leading European tyre manufacturer.

Marangoni Tread Appoints New European Marketing Manager

Marangoni Tread S.p.A has announced the appointment of Martin Kalagin to the position of marketing manager, a role in which he will oversee all Marangoni Tread and Ellerbrock marketing activities in Europe, with a particular focus placed upon the promotion of the company’s RingTread System.

Before joining Marangoni, Kalagin spent close to a decade working for Bridgestone Europe, Marangoni’s former joint venture partner, in Brussels. Originally employed in the Field Engineering & Product Planning Department, from 2004 Kalagin served as business development manager for the company’s European retreading operations.

Marangoni: PR Programme Boosted Consumer Brand Awareness

Marangoni reports that the increase in consumer brand awareness the company experienced in 2007 has “exceeded all expectations,” delivering the Italian tyre brand’s highest UK profile to date. “While this has been a tremendous achievement, there will be no resting on our laurels and in 2008 we will be concentrating greater effort into this area which is a key aspect of our brand strategy,” said Derek Carruthers, Marangoni (Car Tyre Division) Sales & Marketing Director.

The Marangoni campaign was led by the Italian manufacturer’s involvement in Progetto Marangoni, a project to create “the hottest Toyota Yaris ever” in partnership with Redline magazine. According to Marangoni, this not only kept the Marangoni Mythos tyres chosen for the project car in readers’ minds, but also created substantial brand awareness and a strong perception of Marangoni as a high quality high performance product. Throughout the duration of Progetto Marangoni, continuing trade-orientated promotion highlighted the involvement and increasing profile of Marangoni Intelligence Centres and retailers.

Marangoni’s Marge Connors Appointed to New Role

Former Marangoni Tread North America (MTNA) sales development manager Marge Connors has been promoted to a newly created position within the company, that of marketing and communications manager. In her new role Ms Connors will be responsible for increasing the profile of the Ringtread brand and implementing strategies that will further the success of the Ringtread dealer network.

Marangoni Tread Granted EMAS Certification

Marangoni Tread SpA has announced that its manufacturing sites in Ferentino and Frosinone have been granted EMAS certification (certificate no. IT-000709). These production sites already possess ISO 9001:2000 quality certification and ISO 14001:2004 environmental certification.

EMAS stands for Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, and is a European standard that promotes the voluntary adoption of an environmental management system (EMS) that goes well beyond ISO 14001, as the participating organisations must guarantee a certain level of efficiency, transparency and credibility. The system in fact requires the results of the organisation’s environmental performance to be published externally. Voluntary enlisting in the EMAS register allows organisations to assess and improve their environmental performance, to provide appropriate information and create a relationship of trust with industry and the public.

Marangoni Industrial Tyres Invests in Sri Lanka

Marangoni Industrial Tyres recently invested in the production of superelastic tyres in Sri Lanka, mainly for use on fork lift trucks but also for other equipment, such as: loading platforms, loaders and other industrial and commercial machinery. Company representatives did not give details of the investment that took place.

Division president, and group vice-president Mr Giovanni Marangoni stated: “This investment, part of the division’s development plans, is aimed at increasing the company’s production capacity, expanding the current customer base and -in general- increasing market share. We already have a significant presence in Europe, given the large number of customers and important partnerships with specialists in the distribution and servicing of industrial tyres. Nonetheless, we are convinced that our expertise, the superior quality of our products, and an increasingly solid industrial base will allow us to achieve even better results in the coming years”.

Marangoni Establishes a New Partnership in Brazil

In late October Marangoni announced the largest acquisition of new business the company has made outside of Europe. Its Brazil subsidiary, Marangoni do Brazil, has reached an agreement with Release Pneu Point to convert all eight of the retreading plants operated by Pneu Point to the Ringtread system. This conversion will be complete by the end of 2007. Pneu Point is a fast growing group that is active in the area of new vehicle distribution and new and retreaded tyre services, and Marangoni believes the adoption of the Ringtread system will permit Pneu Point to accelerate the growth of its retreading division and will allow a better integration with all its other activities.

Marangoni System a ‘Reliable Alternative’ to Delocalisation

After working for over half a century in the tyre sector, the Marangoni group claims the distinction of being one of only a few players in the global tyre industry to be fully active across the spectrum of tyre industry sectors; from the production of new tyres to industrial-scale retreading, from the design to the development of machinery for the production of tyres, from the manufacturing of retreading systems to the distribution of the finished product to end users. These activities, currently carried out by a staff of over 1,800 in 10 production branches in Italy, Germany, North America and Brazil, led in 2006 to a consolidated turnover of 339.8 million euros, a 10 per cent increase compared with the previous year.

Marangoni Unveils Ring Modular System

A few months ago Marangoni, one of Europe’s leading retreading systems providers, finally received the patent for its latest ring building technology, the best part of a decade after this technology first went into development. With the patent in hand, the Italian company recently invited journalists to see its RMS (Ring Modular System) technology in action. For Marangoni RMS represents the latest evolution in tread ring and retreaded tyre building technology, utilising an advanced level of automation. As a result Marangoni claims that the new machinery saves space, and completes the process in 30 per cent less time, consequently saving money on heat and electricity.

Marangoni Makes it Four in a Row

Italian tyre manufacturer Marangoni is celebrating an unprecedented fourth year of motorsport success after Simone Faggioli won the Italian Hillclimb Championship for a third time with his Zeta Linea Racing-shod, Facetti-tuned Honda-powered Osella PA21S. This adds to the Florentine driver’s incredible record of winning the 2004 and 2006 Italian Hillclimb Championship and a European 2005 title.

The hard-fought 2007 Championship saw some outstanding drives from Faggioli in his bid to retain his title. The longest Championship round, the 17 kilometre Trento Bondone hill, saw mechanical gremlins preventing overall honours at this event but a class win for Faggioli, from strong running team-mate Christian Merli (2nd), with fellow team members David Baldi (4th) and Guilo Regosa (6th). With each of these drivers running Marangoni tyres it was without a doubt a pleasing performance for the tyremaker.

Simone opted out of the Coppa Bruno Carotti climb to manage Team Faggioli, but returned to the cockpit for the 9th Cronscalata del Reventino to record an outright victory. The 46th Coppa Paolino Teodori saw an accident for the Osella and Faggioli slipping to second place in the standings. Heroic efforts by the team to rebuild the car were rewarded with a dominant performance in the 45th Cronoscalata Svolte di Popoli and further victories in the 25th Pedavena/Croce d’Aune and 53rd Coppa Nissena to clinch the Championship.

Redline Completes Progetto Marangoni

After six months of hard work, this summer saw Redline complete is Progetto Marangoni project car. The magazine t translated readers’ ideas into “the coolest, meanest and quickest Toyota Yaris ever.” Back in Japan its designers could never have envisaged the transformation from a daily commuter car to a fire-breather.

Progetto Marangoni represents a unique first for the Italian tyre manufacturer and top tuning magazine Redline. Said Derek Carruthers, Marangoni (Car Tyre Division) Sales & Marketing Director: “We decided to adopt a totally new route to reach the young tuning market, which is such a feature of today’s motoring scene. Linking with Redline magazine whose target market this is, has proved to be a success that has surprised both Redline and ourselves. Such a unique media/tyre company partnership has caught everyone’s imagination. For Marangoni it is proving a fantastic opportunity to communicate our message to what is a new, demanding and highly influential market, while for Redline it dramatically shifts their highly regarded project car programme to a new and elevated platform.

Marangoni Opens Office in Shanghai

Italy’s Marangoni Group has highlighted its interest in the Chinese market with the opening of its Shanghai office, an initiative initially announced during the Citexpo exhibition in Shanghai at the end of 2005. For the Italian corporation a representative base in China is seen as just the first of a number of steps into the Chinese tyre market. Marangoni’s plans focus upon both the new tyre market and the retreading business, and include the installation of retreading plants and the production of Marangoni retreading materials in addition to a general boosting of Marangoni’s presence in the Chinese tyre market. Furthermore, the office will also be responsible for increasing Marangoni’s exports throughout the region. The new Maragoni office in Shanghai is run by Marcello Gambarini, who has more than 30 years of experience in the tyre business, and by Zhu Pei Fang, who the company reports is very well known in the Chinese tyre market.

Marangoni US Facility now Company Owned

Marangoni Tread North America has finalised purchase of its current manufacturing facility premises in Madison, Tennessee. This transaction concludes a process of expansion and development at the facility as part of the company’s declared aim of further strengthening its presence in the North American market.

The purchase of the 80,000 m2 (including a covered surface area of 14,000 m2) premises required an investment in the region of US$5,000,000. As a result of the purchase, the warehouse, which was previously contracted out, can now be managed directly. Marangoni hopes efficiency in the clearance of customer orders can thus be improved.

Recent expansions to the facility that saw its surface area triple will lead to an increase in production output and double production capacity over the next two years. “Now, approximately 75 per cent of the North American demand can be met locally”, said Bill Sweatman, chairman of Marangoni Tread North America. “This expansion will help us to further improve our response to customer service requirements.”

Marangoni Maxo Aimed at “Urban Jungle and Great Outdoors”

School run, supermarket shop or Friday night dash to the weekend hideaway, the Marangoni Maxo is the all-season tyre for on-road 4X4s, SUVs and the growing number of crossover vehicles. Maxo incorporates Marangoni’s unique FOM-IC (Filler Optimised Mixture – Improved Compound) technology, resulting in substantial increases in grip, performance and control, according to the manufacturer.

Marangonu reports that progressive response in both dry and wet conditions and high-speed stability were all fundamental elements in the development of Maxo.
