Delta4x4 puts 22” wheels on a Yeti

Bavarian off-road specialist delta4x4 technicians were “taken aback” recently when asked to fit a large set of wheels to a Yeti. No they hadn’t discovered an immobile abominable snowman. Instead young woman customer was requesting the biggest possible wheels for her Skoda Yeti. However, while there were no actual mythical creatures involved, there does seem to have been a hint of the green-eyed monster. Apparently her motivation was to outdo her husband who drives an Audi Q7 with 20 inch wheels.

Jaguar Land Rover to spend extra £1 billion in UK

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has said it is to spend an additional £1 billion with UK suppliers over the next four years amid continued global demand for the Range Rover Evoque.

JLR has increased the value of UK supply contracts by £1 billion, in addition to the £2 billion supply contracts it awarded to more than 40 UK suppliers in March 2011. These suppliers provide components, facilities and services to support the Range Rover Evoque production line at Halewood on Merseyside.

Marangoni Germany confirms plans to double Ringtread production

Following the rebrand/establishment of Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland in September 2011, the German part of the Italian retreading company confirmed plans to virtually double output at the end of January 2012. The specific purpose of the investment is to double ringtread production capacity in Hamburg.

Continental to take over ContiTread sales in April

As of April 2012, Continental and Marangoni Group will hand over the promotion and sales of ContiTread pre-cure treads to Continental Tyre Group Ltd in the UK and Ireland. Commenting on this move, commercial marketing manager Tracey Hyem said “the addition of ContiTread to our core sales offering, further underlines Continental's commitment to the ContiLifeCycle concept. Customers will now have one contact for all elements of ContiLifeCycle, and can rely on comprehensive advice to help reduce costs through better fuel consumption and longer tyre life.”

Marangoni agrees 3-year BMW Championship control tyre deal

Marangoni has agreed a three-year title sponsorship deal with the UK-based Production BMW Championship. The race cars, all based on BMW 3 Series models, will feature significant Marangoni and Kwik Fit branding and will race on 195/50 R15 82V Marangoni Zeta Linea Sport tyres, a track oriented version of Marangoni’s popular Zeta Linea road spec tyre.

Taking into consideration that Marangoni tyres are only available through Kwik Fit in the UK, the race series will become known as The Marangoni Tyres Production BMW Championship, in association with Kwik Fit. Kwik Fit has reportedly “fully embraced” this new agreement and will be supplying the tyres to all race competitors.

Continental takes over ContiTread marketing from Marangoni

As of the second quarter of this year Continental will assume responsibility for the marketing of its ContiTread precure treads. Previously Italy’s Marangoni group didn’t just produce these treads for the German manufacturer, it was also in charge of marketing the brand in Europe. “We successfully introduced ContiTread precure treads into the European market in 2008 through a licensing agreement with Marangoni. As of April 2012 we will begin marketing ContiTread directly through our own marketing organisation,” explained Christian Sass, director Retread Business Commercial Vehicles Tires (CVT) Continental.

Marangoni Evoque HFI-R turns heads

Marangoni is turning heads in the automotive industry with the unveiling of its tuned-up Range Rover Evoque, which sports striking red tyres. Marangoni’s project car made its debut at Bologna Motor Show in December 2011, but it is already courting attention in 2012, with Auto Express remarking on its “wild styling” in the 18 January issue of the popular magazine. Now the car is touring the UK throughout January.

Pirelli renews retread agreement with Vacu-Lug

Pirelli and Vacu-Lug have renewed the contract that means the Lincolnshire-based retreaded tyre manufacturer will continue as sole producer of the Pirelli Novateck range in hot and cold cure processes in the UK. The relationship between the two manufacturers dates back to April 2007 when a production agreement between the companies dictated that Vacu-Lug take over the machinery and moulds from Pirelli's own production facility in Burton-upon-Trent.

SKN and Marangoni present "Tuning Car 2011" at the Essen Motor Show

Marangoni is partnering tuner SKN with its "Motor Show Tuning Car 2011” featured at the Essen Motor Show, from 26 November to 4 December 2011. At the show tuning enthusiasts have embarked on a complete transformation of a VW Golf GTI (2.0 TFSI 200 HP). The Golf V project car will be equipped with Marangoni M-Power 225/35R19 tyres.

Marangoni cuts ContiTread ties in the Americas

Marangoni and Continental have ended their ContiTread partnership – at least in the Americas. In a joint statement, Continental Tire the Americas and Marangoni Tread North America explained that Marangoni will no longer manufacture ContiTread products for markets in the Americas, a move that will give both companies the scope to pursue their own growth goals within the region. The decision does not apply to cooperation between Continental and Marangoni in other global regions, the statement added.

Survey: Small car, van and truck fleets as smart as larger fleets when it comes to fuel

Fleets with fewer than 25 cars, vans and trucks apply almost as much control to buying petrol and diesel as those with more than 25 vehicles, according to new research by MIB Data Solutions. The company asked 3003 companies with fewer than 25 vehicles and 616 with more than 25 how they acquired fuel (The results do not total 100 per cent because some use more than one method of purchasing).

Nick Boddington, managing director, said: “The results of this survey are quite surprising. Certainly, we expected a much greater disparity between small and large fleets when it comes to the amount of control they apply to fuel buying but the figures for all the methods of purchasing we investigated are very similar.

Swedish bus firm signs Marangoni supply agreement

Marangoni Retreading Systems has announced a new deal with Bergkvarabuss AB, one of the largest private tourist bus and coach companies in Sweden. The Italian retreader will supply tyres with its BUS-T tread pattern, manufactured using its Ringtread joint-free procured ring technology, to the transport firm, becoming the first retreader to supply Bergkvarabuss. Founded in 1975 as a small taxi and bus business, the fleet has since grown to become the biggest family business in the sector in Sweden.

Marangoni consolidates European presence, renames Ellerbrock

As of 1 September 2011, Ellerbrock Reifenrunderneuerungs-Technologie GmhH, which was acquired by the Marangoni Group in the early 1990s, officially began trading under the name Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland GmbH. And in order to explain the rationale for this move, its recent performance and the company’s vision for the future, Marangoni invited Tyres & Accessories to see the fast growing Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland operation first hand and hear from executives at the same time.

Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland’s facilities in Henstead-Urzburg cover an area of 26,500 square metres, with an additional 13,500 square metres occupied an accompanying logistics centre. The facility, which currently employs 120 people, manufactures Profil Liner pre-cured tread strips and Marangoni’s trademark pre-cured rings for truck tyre retreading.

Marangoni introduces “new generation” BUS100 Ringtread

Marangoni Retreading Systems has introduced a “new generation” Ringtread design, available for retreading city bus and intercity coach tyres. The BUS100 is designed to improve overall efficiency by increasing mileage and reducing running costs, according to the manufacturer. The pattern features a wide footprint, increased by more than 5 per cent, and solid and sturdy shoulders to improve damage resistance when hitting kerbstones.
