Bosch has announced plans to step up advertising for its Car Service network. The new campaign will see Bosch Car Service target many of the national papers over February and March this year. Publications will include the Sunday Telegraph, The Sun, The Mail on Sunday, The Times and The Guardian, and also motoring magazine, What Car?

Nokian tyres have recently won a run of high profile magazine test in Europe. “Very recommendable” was the “ADAC judgement” for the Nokian H in the summer tyre test 2010 of the German Automobile Association ADAC, the “test quality judgement” of the consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest praised: “Nokian H good”.
While tyre manufacturers do everything in their power to reduce braking distances, recent test results highlight that there is performance gap wider than a supersingle separating the best and worst braking systems on new vehicles. That's the conclusion of a recent report by the UK's leading consumer magazine Which? The consumer watchdog measured the average distance new cars took to stop from 62 mph, one of the ongoing tests Which? carries out across 160 cars a year. In the supermini category, the Volkswagen Polo took 34.16 metres to come to a stop, whereas a Suzuki Alto took 42.52 metres – a performance gap of over 8 metres.
Michelin has announced a new bespoke tyre specification service for farm vehicles, which will launch tomorrow at Lamma 2011. The service will run free of charge at all of the trade shows the manufacturer will attend this year, which will include the Irish Machinery Show, Grasslands & Muck, Cereals, Royal Welsh Show and Royal Highland Show. Michelin technical specialists will carry out a detailed technical appraisal, taking into account the precise machine model, individual tyre sizes, operating weights, desired applications and surface type. This information will then be used to determine the most suitable Michelin or Kleber fitments, together with recommended operating pressures.
Specialty chemicals group Lanxess says it intends to intensify communication with political and social leaders on a global level. As a first step towards accomplishing this, the company is expanding its presence in Berlin with the move to a new liaison office in the German capital. This office will open on January 20, prior to the “Lanxess Kick-Off Berlin 2011” event. Lanxess also intends to open an office in Brussels some time in the spring.

As well as rolling out a new website at the start of next year, Maxxis International is taking of smartphones to promote its brand. In the new year the company will launch a mobile phone app developed for Apple, Android, and Blackberry devices. This Maxxis app will enable people to research Maxxis products and get the latest news about the Maxxis Babes and Maxxis- sponsored sports events teams and drivers and its calendar of performance/tuning shows.
At this year’s Autosport Awards, held in London on December 5, Bridgestone became the recipient of a John Bolster Award in recognition of the company’s technical achievements in Formula One. The accolade, named after the original technical editor of Autosport magazine, was presented by Formula One World Championship winning team principal Christian Horner to Bridgestone’s director of Motorsport, Hiroshi Yasukawa.
Maxxis is aiming to promote its credentials as a specialist in the field of off-road motorcycle tyres through sponsoring an editorial feature in the UK consumer magazine MOTO. The tyre maker describes the eight-page article as one that “spells out everything riders need to know about tyres to get the best out of their motocross bikes.” The article, ‘Tyre 101: the ultimate guide to rubber’, appears in the November issue of the magazine and explains why the failure to select of rubber fit for the intended purpose could lower a bike’s performance and potentially ruin an otherwise perfectly good set of tyres.
Telford-based tyre wholesale operation Treadsetters has beaten over 1600 other business to the finals of HSBC’s business thinking awards. The company, which earlier saw off strong competition to win its regional heat is now in line to win up to £5 million in lending and a financial reward of up to £100,000. Now, Treadsetters and just 17 other companies are vying for the title of overall winner of Business Thinking 2010 at the prestigious “International Insights” event in Hong Kong, which managing director Tim Davies is attending on 5 December.
Should NASA ever get round to popping back to the moon or decide to dispatch a wheeled vehicle to Mars, it can make arrangements secure in the knowledge it has an award winning tyre to draw upon. On November 11, US based publication R&D Magazine held its 48th Annual R&D 100 Awards and named Goodyear Tire & Rubber, together with the NASA Glenn Research Center, a winner in its ‘mechanical devices’ category. The award was given for both parties’ work on the ‘Spring Tire’, an airless tyre capable of transporting large, long-range vehicles across the surface of celestial bodies.
Parts supplier XPart has suggested that motorists should choose their garage carefully when taking their car for a pre-winter service. “Garages have a duty of care towards their customers to complete maintenance and repair work with a good level of skill, within an agreed timeline and at a reasonable cost,” comments Barry Smith, UK sales manager, XPart. The catalyst for these suggestions was a damning report in Which? magazine earlier in the year that pointed towards a general lack of rigour in carrying out checks and repairs on the public’s cars.
Continental has won evo magazine’s tyre test for the second time this year. The brand came top of the test on the front wheel drive Renaultsport Megane 250 Cup. The high performance car magazine tested nine of the most popular brands on the market including Continental’s new ContiSportContact 5 P in the popular 235/35 R19 size.
Referring to the Continental tyre’s performance the magazine said: “It set the standard in many of the tests, taking an almost clean sweep in the dry tests and rating very highly in the wet tests, too. It also garnered praise for its feel and abilities in the subjective tests.”
