Goodyear FleetOnlineSolutions keeps trans-European parts shipper on schedule

Rotterdam based ship components supplier Estron Transport’s modern fleet of 280 tautliner trailers are fitted with Goodyear Kmax T trailer tyres in size 385/65R22.5 and 10 tractor units. The firm operates a daily service between Benelux, the UK and Germany, primarily the just-in-time delivery of parts for ships, and as befits such an organisation it is at the forefront of the use of logistics technology; Goodyear, which has supplied the company for more than 15 years, including its FleetOnlineSolutions (FOS) tyre management system since 2006, states efficient tyre management is an essential part of Estron’s real-time planning process, supported by a track and trace system, ensuring minimum downtime for vehicles and reduced administration.

Exol receives CBOA ‘award of excellence’ for use of waterways

Exol Lubricants has won the award of excellence from the Commercial Boat Operators Association (CBOA) for its economic commitment to the waterways. The award was presented to Exol sales director and IAAF CV Committee chairman Steve Dunn at the FTA Multimodal awards, held at the Vox, Resorts World, in front of more than 600 guests.

MWSD expands Scottish business with Drummond Distribution partnership

Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) is targeting improved delivery timescales in Scotland with a new logistics partnership. Drummond Distribution will offer the company’s Scottish customers next-day delivery on its most popular commercial vehicle wheel sizes. Covering Chevron Steel as well as Xlite and new Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels, the service will cover over 90 per cent of orders received before 4pm. More uncommon sizes and specifications will be supplied via MWSD’s warehouse in Manchester with delivery within two-three days.

Kings Road Tyres Burton-on-Trent ‘Superhub’ a major step in restructure

Kings Road Tyres’ restructuring process has taken “a major step towards completion” with the opening of its new central Superhub in Burton-on-Trent. The company is now operating out of a 92,000sqft office and warehouse complex on a five acre (two hectare) site known as Centrum One Hundred. KRT adds that its new neighbours – businesses including DHL, Boots, Unilever, Waterstones and Holland & Barrett – show the high calibre of the location, just off the A38, and with easy access to the M1 and M6 motorway networks.

Exol Pride sets sail, transporting raw materials by canal

Exol Lubricants has recently added a new barge, “Exol Pride,” to the North East Waterways, which will transport raw materials from Hull to its bulk blending plant in Rotherham. Exol has been a long term user of the waterways, leading the oil and lubricants market by using an environmentally friendly option while transporting large loads. The company has been commended for its reduction in carbon footprint and has even featured in ITV’s Barging about Britain, hosted by John Sergeant.

Marangoni outsources transport & distribution in Italy to CEVA

Retreading specialist Marangoni has selected CEVA Logistics to transport and distribute its industrial and commercial tyres throughout Italy. The three-year contract between Marangoni and the supply chain company will see CEVA collect tyres pre-selected by Marangoni for retreading, ship them to a Marangoni-owned warehouse near the company’s Rovereto retreading facility, and then distribute new and retreaded tyres to both retailers and distributors around the country.

Michelin to supply European markets from newly-expanded site in Hungary

In 2016 Michelin intends to develop its logistics centre in Vác, Hungary into a centre for tyre distribution within Europe, and to realise this aim has undertaken a €7 million expansion of the site. In a Hungarian-language press statement the tyre maker reports that the 30,000 square metre facility has been handed over and is ready for its new responsibilities; from 1 January 2016 it will supply tyres to 15 countries in Central and Southern Europe (Michelin names the Czech Republic, Albania, Austria and Bulgaria as four of these), and will receive tyres from all of Michelin’s European factories.

Michelin closing Ballymena factory, investing in Dundee and Stoke-on-Trent

Michelin Tyre Plc is consulting on the closure of its Ballymena truck tyre factory at the same time as investing in the expansion of its Dundee car tyre and Stoke-on-Trent retreading sites. The Ballymena factory closure plans suggest the site will be run-down between now and a mid-2018 closure point. The Ballymena factory currently employs 860 people and Michelin says it is “committed to supporting those employees during consultation and in the forthcoming months”.

Logistics companies’ optimism fuels CV finance

Commenting on the Finance & Leasing Association’s figures showing increased demand for commercial vehicle finance, Carl D’Ammassa, group managing director, business finance, at Aldermore Bank, said: “Based on what we are hearing from our clients, we are not surprised by the figures from the Finance & Leasing Association showing that finance for commercial vehicles on lease and hire-purchase agreements rose 10 per cent to the year ending August 2015.

Continental hands CEVA responsibility for UK tyre logistics

CEVA Logistics has been awarded the contract to provide tyre warehousing and transportation services to Continental in the UK. The new five-year contract is worth more than US$50 million and involves CEVA’s management of the 21,000 square metre Continental warehouse within the Central Park industrial estate in Rugby. The supply chain management company will receive, store and dispatch around three million tyres a year and also manage Continental’s UK transport requirements using both its own dedicated fleet and a network of regional partners.

Ceva launches multi-brand ‘TyreCity’ logistics solution in Italy

Ceva Logistics has officially opened a new 80,000 square metre facility in Italy dedicated to the warehousing, handling and cross docking of tyres and related products. The new TyreCity operation is located near Milan in the municipality of Somaglia, and it the fourth centre Ceva Logistics has set up in Italy in order to cater to a specific sector; the logistics specialist already operates City of Books for the publishing sector, City of Pharma for the healthcare products market, and TechCity for the electronics sector.
