Maywood Releases New 2 Post Lift

The Maywood Equipment Group has announced the arrival of a brand new electro hydraulic 2 post lift, the KH32. This lift is produced exclusively for Maywood and its introduction comes subsequent to extensive market testing in France and more recently in The UK. The KH32 is available in either single or three phase and has a 3.2 tonne capacity. It features a baseframe, extending its suitability to almost any floor, subject to good concrete conditions. Maywood reports the KH32 is competitively priced and available from the company’s distributors, including Unipart Automotive.

Features of the KH32 lift include arms that swing inwards to fit in between wheels and has a double cable lifting mechanism. It is suitable for general workshop use but also for tyre bays or body repair shops. The lifting pad height is 110 mm, suitable for most cars, and the lifting height of 2074 mm is higher than many lifts. The KH32 comes equipped with many safety features including integrated emergency lowering feature.

Court Approves Delphi Investment Plan

Financially troubled automotive parts manufacturer Delphi Corporation marked another milestone on its journey back from bankruptcy on August 2. The US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York gave its consent for the New Jersey based hedge fund Appaloosa Management LP and a number of other investors to inject as much as two and a half billion US dollars into the company. In return Appaloosa and the others will receive preferred and common stock in the reorganised Delphi.

The company is working towards coming out from under the umbrella of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection – the section of the United States Bankruptcy Code allowing for the reorganisation of a company under bankruptcy court supervision – by the end of 2007, and the August 2 decision will greatly assist to this end. “This was a huge milestone,” said Delphi chairman Robert S. (Steve) Miller, “A lot of the heavy lifting is done.”

It remains business as usual for Nottingham based leading automotive and service equipment specialists Beissbarth following the company’s acquisition by Bosch in April, and the established Beissbarth range of products continue to find favour with UK customers.

Introduced in 2006, the company’s latest addition to their tyre changing line up is the MS67 tyre changer for low profile, run-flat tyres and wide rims, and Beissbarth say this is a unit that offers safe and simple tyre changing, even for the most difficult tyre rim combinations. Those involved in the business will be well and truly aware of this; many changes, both in terms of tyre technology and official legislation, have impacted the tyre industry. With Health and Safety taking an increasingly humourless approach to the lifting of heavy objects in the workplace, a key safety feature built into the MS67 is a definite bonus. The unit comes equipped with a pneumatic lift that raises the tyre onto the table without the fitter having to lift the heavy wheel and tyre assembly. This ensures that the manual handling of tyre and wheel assemblies is kept to a minimum.

Sameer Seeks Government Subsidies

Kenya based Sameer Africa Ltd has asked the Kenyan government to provide subsidies to local manufacturers so they can counter rising energy costs and remain competitive. The manufacturer of Yana brand tyres has made this call following government requests to the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) to transfer some of their production to off peak times in which there is lower demand for electricity.

Sameer Africa’s chairman, Naushad Meralli, believes high energy costs are a large contributor to local manufacturers’ diminishing competitiveness. “This increased costs will diminish our ability to compete effectively domestically and in the export markets, which are also attractive to our competitors with lower power costs,” he said.

Its All in the e-Bit

Delticom AG’s full-year 2006 and first quarter results must have been music to the ears of investors who put money into the company during last October’s IPO at the Frankfurt stock exchange. The company reported group revenues totalling 173.1 million euros for the 2006 financial year, up 34 per cent year-on-year. It also proved that online businesses can really be profitable, reporting a 78.9 per cent year-on-year increase in pre-tax profits (EBIT) to 10.2 million euros. In fact the company’s e-Commerce segment was said to be its strongest driver. Here revenues grew 42.2 per cent to 155.2 million euros. Consolidated net income increased 90.9 per cent to 6.3 million euros from 3.3 million in 2005.

New Lift from Maywood

Maywood Equipment Group has introduced a new lift. The five tonne four-post lift, Europa 5000, is just one of several new products to be included in Maywood’s new price list catalogue. The Europa 5000 has been launched to fill a gap in the market place.

Gavin Masterton, Director of Maywood commented: “We already have over 50 lifts in our range but we listen to our key distributors like Unipart Automotive and when they say there is a gap in our range, we seek to find the product to fill it.”

The Europa 5000 is electro-hydraulic in operation, has many safety devices like automatic arm locking, foot saver protection and independent four cable lifting system. It is available in single and three phase. The lifting height is 1960mm and the platform length is 5100mm. It is available as a surface mounted lift and requires just 160mm of concrete on the floor.

Need A Hand?

Proper casing handling has a strong role to play in protecting the profits of retreaders. Shearography and ultrasonics are important, but who would do without that first hand visual inspection for buffed casings, before they enter the retreading process proper?

However, manhandling a truck tyre is increasingly frowned upon by the Health and Safety Executive. There are pieces of equipment that will lift and position a casing, others that will spread and spin the casing. But, earlier this year, AEP exhibited a new tyre inspection bay in Essen that highlights the company’s ability to provide bespoke handling solutions to the tyre industry.

Conti Lifecycle Process Results in Longer Tyre Life for Kent Haulier

Faversham-based Les Knight Transport Limited is one of the biggest container hauliers in the South East, running 23 tractor units and 15 tri-axle skeletal trailers on container work out of Dartford and Purfleet. It also provides a ‘traction only’ service pulling other people’s trailers, which accounts for 20 per cent of its activity. The trucks run throughout the UK with the occasional foray into mainland Europe and each covers around 140,000 kilometres a year.

The company invests heavily in its trucks, all of which are top-of-the-range models from MAN, Volvo, Scania and DAF and all under five years old. When you’re spending such serious money on trucks it’s important that you also do everything you can to ensure they operate as efficiently, economically and safely as possible and tyres play a big part in this.

Maywood and Omer Become Exclusive UK Partners

Maywood Equipment Group has announced that it will now be the sole UK importer of Omer scissor lifts up to and including five tonnes. Miriam Rossato, marketing and sales manager for Omer commented: “Maywood is the perfect partner for us in The UK. They are prepared to invest in holding stock and have excellent delivery arrangements which often is a problem with large scissor lifts.”

Gavin Masterton, director of Maywood responded by saying “We could not have a better partner for scissor lifting than Omer. They respond very quickly to all our. They even sent an engineer to Dundee in Scotland to resolve a very complicated wheel alignment levelling system! Their range of lifts is the most comprehensive and we will be launching even more models early next year.”

Tyre Explosion Lead to Docks Cordon

Firefighters sealed off Barry Docks in the Vale of Glamorgan on 18 September in order to tackle a blaze which led to the tyres on a heavy lifting vehicle exploding. According to the BBC, the fire service sent 11 appliances to deal with the explosion and four gas canisters had to be cooled to prevent them from overheating too.

Titan Gets 5-Year Supply Deal With Grove

(Akron/Tire Review) Titan International has signed a five-year deal to supply wheels and tyres to Grove US, maker of mobile hydraulic, truck mounted and industrial cranes. Under the deal, Titan will supply General branded OTR tyres to Grove. “Titan is happy to partner with Grove, a company known for strong, reliable lifting solutions, in this long-term commitment,” said Titan Chairman and CEO Morry Taylor. “The General OTR tyre brand is a leader in the crane industry, and Titan’s wheels are the best in the business. Grove’s customers will benefit from quality equipment, paired with leading American-made Titan assemblies.”
