Nexen Tire partners with LD Carbon in long-term recovered carbon black deal

Nexen Tire has signed a long-term supply agreement with LD Carbon Co. Ltd. for recovered carbon black (rCB). Nexen reports that LD Carbon’s recovered carbon black is generated by pyrolyzing end-of-life tyres in an oxygen-free environment, greatly lowering carbon emissions and promoting resource cycling thereby helping the South Korean tyremaker expand its use of sustainable materials and “improving its eco-friendly tyre manufacturing capabilities.”

LD Carbon opens Korea’s first and largest tyre pyrolysis plant

LD Carbon has established Korea’s first and the largest ELT resource circulation plant in Dangjin and held its completion ceremony on the 24th. The LD Carbon Dangjin plant is located in the ‘Dangjin Hapdeok General Industrial Complex.’ Upon entering the plant, built on a site of 29,800㎡ (approx. 9,000 pyeong), two factory buildings and five silos immediately catch the eye.

LD Carbon wins $28 million Toyota-backed investment in sustainable carbon black and pyrolysis oil

LD Carbon has closed a $28 million Series C funding round led by Toyota’s growth fund, Woven Capital, with participation by Meritz Securities, Investwith, Industrial Bank of Korea, Hyundai Motor Group ZER01NE, Elohim Partners and New Main Capital. LD Carbon will use the investment to scale operations to recycle end-of-life tyres and material from end-of-life vehicles into recovered carbon black and pyrolysis oil through pyrolysis and material recovery technology. From here, the aim is to use the recovered materials to create new automotive parts and tyres. According to the company, “the investment will advance LD Carbon’s mission of accelerating the circular economy while delivering material cost and carbon savings to global customers”.

TRS & LD Carbon sign MoU for tyre recycling plant

Korean waste treatment and raw material recycling company LD Carbon and Switzerland’s Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up a facility in South Korea. This plant will process end-of-life tyres (ELTs) into TyreXol rubber powders using the TRS Water Pulse process. LD Carbon will utilise ELTs not processed into TyreXol to produce tyre pyrolysis oil and recovered carbon black products whose quality has already passed various global tyre manufacturers’ assurance tests for commercial adoptions.

SK Incheon Petrochem partnering LD Carbon tyre-derived oil project

SK Incheon Petrochem, a petrochemical wing of South Korean conglomerate SK Group’s intermediate holding company SK Innovation, has made an equity investment into LD Carbon, uses pyrolysis to extract oil from end-of-life tyres. The news confirms earlier reports that LD Carbon was being backed a South Korean petrochemical firm.

LD Carbon is on the brink of closing a 10-year tyre pyrolysis oil contract with a South Korean oil firm. Tyres & Accessories understands that the 10-year deal will be worth around $25 million a year, making the whole contract worth around $250 million.

LD Carbon gains investment in ELT pyrolysis project

South Korean waste treatment and raw material recycling company LC Carbon announced on Tuesday that it had gained US$15 million of Series A investment, which it will use to build a pyrolysis, crushing, and recovered carbon black (rCB) facility within the country.
