Automating tyre handling with Crisplant

Crisplant, part of Germany’s Beumer Group since 2009 and today a leading global supplier of automated material handling systems, will launch its first automated material handling system specifically customised for the tyre production industry at next week’s Tire Technology Expo. Describing the new Crisplant Tire Tray Transportation and Sortation System, the company says it automates manual handling and provides traceability and tracking of individual tyres through every stage of the production process.

“By eliminating manual handling of tires throughout production, tyre manufacturers can enhance workplace safety and continually monitor and optimise process efficiency,” explains Crisplant managing director Klaus Schäfer. “In creating this new system Crisplant has used the same skills and expertise with which it has helped major distribution hubs worldwide, to transform their business to achieve lower operating costs and higher process efficiency.”

New name for motorcycle trade association

National Motorcycle Dealer Association is the new name for RMI motorcycle division, the trade association representing motorcycle dealers across the UK. Director Sue Robinson commented: "The UK motorcycle industry is evolving and modern motorcycle dealer's needs are changing. In an industry that has been hit hard by the recession it is more important than ever to have the support and guidance of a reputable trade body.

Conti’s unorthodox OE fitments

After keeping mum about it for quite a while, Continental has shared that its tyres play a key role in making the London Eye spin. The 442 foot (or 135 metre, for those reading this in metric) high Ferris wheel is spun by drive systems located in towers at each end of the boarding platform; these systems’ hydraulic motors rotate the wheel via friction rollers, and Continental HSR (Heavy Steer Regional) tyres fulfil this role.

Goodyear agrees 22 vehicle supply deal for new coach tyre

The vehicles ordered include – coaches for touring, buses for operation across Luxembourg and buses for local operations. Having been delivered at the end of December 2012, they have now entered service. Both Goodyear Marathon Coach and Ultra Grip Coach tyres will be fitted on the new vehicles, with the Ultra Grip Coach winter drive tyres mounted on the drive axles. During the winter months the front axles will be fitted with Goodyear Ultra Grip WTS winter steer tyres and during the summer season Marathon Coach tyres will be used. The vehicles will have 295/80R22.5 or 315/80R22.5 sized tyres.

Conti receives test license for ‘driverless’ car

If we need technology to warn us about the obvious, then maybe it’s better to eliminate us from the equation completely – in the same week it announced plans to introduce technology that warns drivers they’re travelling the wrong way on motorways, Continental reports it has received an Autonomous Vehicle Testing License’ from the US state of Nevada. If all goes to plan, Continental technology could be present in driverless cars, which never mistake the motorway exit for the on-ramp, within as little as eight years.

UK launch for Sava Sportforce

Bike Tyrestore plans to introduce a new Sava range to UK customers at the Motorcycle Trade Expo show in Birmingham in the second half of January. This new product, the Sportforce radial, is aimed at riders of sports, naked and Supermoto motorcycles as well as for riders of sports touring machines who enjoy dynamic rides.

Michelin starting 2013 with several new moto additions

Early next year Michelin will launch several new motorcycle products. Available from the start of 2013 is the replacement for Michelin’s Power One Track, the Power SuperSport. The new tyre is said to slot between the Street and Power One Power Cup in Michelin’s motorcycle line-up, and be intended for 50-50 road/track use. One front wheel size – 120/70-17 (58W) – and four for the rear wheel – 180/55-17 (73W), 190/50-17 (73W), 190/55-17 (73W) and 200/55-17 (78W) – have been announced.

Bridgestone introduces Battlax Sport Touring T30

On 1 March Bridgestone will launch its latest sport touring range in Europe. The Battlax Sport Touring T30 radial will be marketed in ten front and 13 rear sizes. The Japanese manufacturer says the Battlax Sport Touring T30 is a “premium brand steeped in technology refined through the company's development of MotoGP race tyres” and is intended for use on medium to large motorcycles.

Kumho USA outlines 2013 products at dealer meeting

This year’s Kumho Tire USA dealer meeting took place between 7 and 10 December, and Tire Review reports that while the tyre maker’s management acknowledged next year will likely be similar to 2012 – in other words, a challenging year for dealers and for the industry in general – the company focused on what its dealers can look forward to.

Metzeler announces spring 2013 debut for Karoo 3

The successor to Metzeler’s Karoo and Karoo T will be available in spring 2013, the tyre maker reports. The motorcycling world gained a sneak preview of the new Karoo 3 at November’s EICMA motorcycle show in Italy, and when it hits the road next year the tyre will be available in three front wheel and six rear sizes. Metzeler describes the new knobbly tyre as a product “designed for bikers who love adventure and off-road travel.”

Kumho outlines ‘Pink Ribbon Campaign’ support

As a supporter of breast cancer awareness campaigns, Kumho Tires is participating in the 'Pink Ribbon Love Marathon'. Earlier, in June, Kumho Tires held a new product launch presentation held at an aircraft hanger at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, where it also signed an agreement with the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation to support the Pink Ribbon Campaign, a programme designed to promote the importance of breast health, a regular breast self-exam and early detection. The campaign is run by Korea Breast Cancer Foundation, established in 2000 as Korea's first non-profit foundation dedicated to breast health.

Hofmann Megaplan introduces new, low-priced leverless tyre changer

Tyre equipment specialist Hofmann Megaplan recently introduced a new ‘lever-less’ tyre changer, which the company claims is the best priced, premium quality leverless tyre changer ever produced. The megamount 700 ‘evo’ utilises the hugely popular ‘evolution’ leverless device that is employed as an optional upgrade on other megamount models from Hofmann Megaplan. In addition, Hofmann Megaplan says a 24-inch turntable, the inclusion of ‘megafit 2’ assist arm and hands-free ‘Power Out’ bead breaker ensure the new model is equipped to cope in any environment. Utilising the chassis from the ubiquitous megamount 702XL, the 700 achieves an attractive price tag by removing some of the luxury features associated with its bigger brother.

Hankook donates tyres in Hungary

As part of its corporate social responsibility program (CSR) in Hungary, Hankook has donated over 1300 winter tyres to three organisations – National Ambulance Service, National Disaster Relief and Hungarian Red Cross – to support their invaluable services to the community. This is the largest tyre donation ever in Hungary.
In 2012, Hankook launched an overarching CSR strategy in Hungary, where the company's European production facilities are located. The "Hankook Value Creation Program" is based on three pillars: Environment, Health & Education and Social Campaigning.

Hofmann puts Speedliner on all its adhesive weights
