Cooper Presents New US Sport Truck Tyre

Cooper has announced the release of its newest hybrid sport truck tyre, the Cooper Zeon LTZ. The company says that the tyre’s hybrid technology represents its attempt to combine the performance required for today’s SUVs and CUVs, with the aggressiveness of a go-anywhere, all-terrain product.

“This tyre follows the successful launch of the high performance sport truck tyre, the Cooper Zeon XSTA, earlier this year,” said Hal Gardner, Cooper’s vice president of marketing. “With the LTZ, Cooper set its sights on the off-road market, combining sport-truck market thinking and innovative technology. Rather than just develop an all-terrain tyre for the traditional 15- and 16-inch applications, Cooper engineers designed the LTZ for larger diameter applications, currently as big as 24 inches.”

Goodyear Releases Aviation Tyre for Business Jet Sector

The Goodyear has introduced its Flight Eagle LT (Light Turbine) tyre for the rapidly growing entry level, very light and light jet business segments. The new tyre is an extension of Goodyear’s Flight Eagle line of aviation tyres, a leading choice for business jets.

“Throughout our 100 year history, Goodyear Aviation has been involved in many aviation developments,” said Pierre Jambon, general manager of Goodyear’s Global Aviation Business. “From supplying tyres to the Wright brothers, to providing the right tyres for Embraer’s newest personal jets, we have earned our reputation as an innovator. The business and personal jet category is our next step in this progression. We are pleased to launch this product for aviation’s newest segment, the light turbines.”

Renault Picks Alcoa Dura-Bright for Hybrid Refuse Collection Vehicle

The first Renault Trucks refuse collection vehicle equipped with a hybrid engine will start a field test, fitted with Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels, in the Lyon urban area in October 2008. The aim is to confirm, under real operating conditions, that up to 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption – and therefore in CO2 emissions – can be achieved by using Renault Premium Distribution Hybrys Tech. The market launch is planned for end 2009.

Mak Launches New 10-Spoke Wheel design

Italian wheelmaker Mak used the recent Automechanika exhibition to launch its latest design, the Iguan, on the international car accessories market. The new wheel is a ten-spoke design “purposely developed in order to embellish stylish and upper-class cars.”

Its 10 spokes are coupled in order to surround the five fixing holes and are based on stylistic detail that makes the wheel slender and light. According to the company, the clever thing about the new design is having produced a wheel with spokes large enough to take the weight of the heavy upper-class cars it is designed for, while still appearing light and well spaced.

The Iguan range is currently available in the following size – 8J18.

Michelin Development Canada Announces Five New Loans

In addition to its UK programme, Michelin operates its Michelin Development scheme in Canada, and on September 24 Michelin Development Canada announced five new loans in the Greater Waterloo region, bringing the potential number of jobs the program has created in the region to 539 and the total amount of money loaned to local entrepreneurs to more than $2.25 million dollars.

“In the two years since the launch of Michelin Development in the Greater Waterloo region we have exceeded our expectations in both potential job creation and the amount of money loaned to local entrepreneurs,” said John Tully, director of Michelin Development (Canada) Inc. in the Greater Waterloo Region. “We are especially pleased that a majority of the jobs created are in the manufacturing sector.

Marshal Offer Comprehensive Truck Range

Fresh from the launch of its new website, Marshal is keen to ramp up its truck tyre operation, using a variety of customer-friendly measures.

To make selection easier for customers and end users, a clear naming system has been adopted for all new tyres in the range. This includes an indication of the application, for example L for long haul, R for regional, M for mixed service etc. The position is also given by a letter such as S for steer, T for trailer and A for all-position. Finally a two digit number (01, 02 and so on) shows the series.

In addition to the improvements to retail operations, Marshal is confident that its range can cater to the needs of a wide range of customers. To meet the demands of long-distance highway use at constant high speed, Marshal’s long haul range delivers good stability and handling and long original tread life, while offering a smooth ride and minimising uneven wear. The regional range combines excellent handling and ride comfort with the need for good traction and long tread life.

Michelin’s MaxiTrailer Ideal for Low Trailers

Back in April this year, Michelin utilised the occasion of the Commercial Vehicle Show 2008 to launch its new 255/60 R 19.5 X MaxiTrailer. Michelin are confident that the tyre will win over the marketplace by providing innovative features in terms of both the tyre’s applications – mainly as a result of its relatively compact dimensions – and its safety features. It is specifically designed for low-height trailers as it takes up no more space than a 17.5-inch tyre, following requests from the market to increase the load carrying capacity of the traditional 205/65 R17.5 tyre. The French manufacturer claims that the tyre is ideal for fitment to low loaders being used to transport extra-heavy loads, as well as low-height mega trailers, car transporters and livestock trailers. The new tyre offers a 10 centimetre increase in available space for goods being carried in comparison with regular 19.5-inch tyres.

UK Launch for Latest Eibach Multipro Kits Imminent

After months and miles of exhaustive testing, Eibach report it is about to launch its two latest ‘Multipro’ Coilover kits onto the European market. The first two UK specific fitments from the firm’s US R&D facility are the Volkswagen Golf 5 and BMW’s E92 3 series. Many others vehicles are in the pipeline, Eibach promises.

Whilst coilovers have formed part of Eibach’s product line up for many years now, the new range raises the bar for the industry in terms of price, performance and componentry. Multipro uses state-of-the-art remote reservoir damping and adjustable height platforms to endow the recipient vehicle with what Eibach describes as “phenomenal levels of handling”, whilst still maintaining a compliant and comfortable ride quality.

Cooper to Free Up Domestic Capacity with China Imports

According to reports, Cooper Tire expects to receive around 2.5 million tyres from its Cooper Chengshan Tire facility in China during 2008. The total phase one capacity of the plant is 6.5 million units, and Cooper is planning an expansion of over two million tyres.

Net-A-Tyre: The UK’s Latest Online Tyre Company

Net-A-Tyre (www.netatyre.co.uk) is the UK’s newest online tyre company, established in Scotland by independent garage group D&G Autocare. www.netatyre.co.uk offers customers the chance to buy tyres online and have them fitted where they want at one of the company’s UK wide network of independent fitting agents. No details of exactly how many fitting agents the company has were given in the launch statement. However, Net-A-Tyre did state that it is actively seeking to expand its network.

Net-A-Tyre Manager Stuart Burns: “There are many advantages to becoming a Net-A-Tyre agent, namely that we can generate traffic into the garages who perhaps do not use their services at the moment or have not known about their locations. This will give those garages the chance to turn these new customers into regular visitors. And if there is extra work required in the vehicles outside of their new tyres being fitted, the garages are free to sell that additional work to the customer, which will boost their revenue.”

Watts Launches New Products

Watts Tyre Group is to launch two new products into the market in the coming months – the Premia Press On Band and the Sherpa Industrial Pneumatic. The Premia POB, which was unveiled at CeMAT in Hannover this year, represents a new generation of POB tyres designed with high performance applications in mind. Its contoured design has been engineered to produce low stress points at the band/rubber interface to give outstanding rubber to steel bond characteristics. Available in Traction and Smooth tread patterns, the Premia POB is also produced in Non Marking and Electrically Conducting compounds.

In the final quarter of 2008 Watts will be launching the Sherpa, a high quality Industrial Pneumatic designed to meet the most demanding of requirements. Watts’ initial field tests have shown that Sherpa outperforms other industrial pneumatics in its class, results that are supported by independent tests which show that it lasts longer under a variety of different conditions than a number of the industry’s market leading products.
