Sava Launches Three Upgraded Truck Tyre Lines

Sava has announced the launch of three upgraded tyre ranges designed to offer enhanced performance and value for long and regional haul trucks, trailers and coaches. The Slovenia based Goodyear Dunlop subsidiary reports that its Avant A3plus steer tyre and Orjak O3plus drive tyre have benefited from new construction and tread compounds, giving the tyres significantly improved mileage, durability and stability compared with their predecessors. The new carcass construction is shared in the Cargo C3plus trailer tyre and features a revised belt package lay-up that delivers reduced heat build up and improved durability.

Nigeria Moves to Ban ‘Tokunbo’ Tyres

Lawmakers in Nigeria are acting to ban the importation of ‘tokunbo’, or used tyres, into the country. A committee attached to Nigeria’s House of Representatives is said to be working on legislation that would prohibit the entry of tyres more than three years old – a move intended to ensure that tyres sold and used in Nigeria meet international standards.

Tokunbo tyres are typically sold with around 40 per cent of their original thread remaining. Initiator of the legislation, Ekperikpe Ekpo, noted that 80 per cent of road accidents were caused by burst tyres and not less than 60 per cent of vehicles, especially commercial vehicles, use either sub-standard or tokunbo tyres.

Michelin to Launch First 295/60R22.5 Multi-Purpose Tyre

In August 2009, Michelin will introduce the market’s first 295/60R22.5-size multi-purpose tyre – the Michelin X MultiWay XD for truck drive axles. With the new tyre, comments Michelin, drivers of large-capacity commercial vehicles in Europe will be able to travel safely on all types of road and in all weather conditions.

The tyres that equip large-capacity and car-carrier trucks are confronted with a range of challenges, the French tyre major notes. They must be able to travel thousands of kilometres on motorways in summer and winter, access loading areas on national and smaller roads, and sometimes make city deliveries on traffic-congested streets. At the same time, trucking companies need to be able to carry heavier loads, reduce delivery times and optimise costs, while maintaining superior safety performance.

Polish Online Wholesaler Expands European Web Presence

Polish online tyre wholesaler Oponeo.pl is preparing to launch its new Italian website in the next two to three weeks. This latest site will join the company’s German, Spanish and French pages, which entered operation this year.

“In countries in which we launched our e-stores, sales are already taking place. We are continuously working on improving the websites and increasing their functionality,” Ernest Pujszo, responsible for developing Oponeo.pl’s foreign sales, told the Warsaw Business Journal.

PressurePro and enTIRE Launch Tyre Pressure Management Package

Advantage PressurePro, LLC and Vehicle Management Corporation Pty Ltd have introduced enTIRE PressureAgent. The PressureAgent interfaces with PressurePro’s with market leading TPMS with Vehicle Management Corporation’s advanced Tire Management Software (enTIRE) and reads, analyzes and reports tyre pressure information. The enTIRE system compares pressure readings to the recommended pressure for each tyre type and vehicle position.

“Our uploading capability provides our customers with the ability to download historical pressure readings from each tyre on a vehicle into enTIRE, which contains detailed information about the recommended pressure for each tyre and axle”, said Mark Fernie, managing director of Vehicle Management Corporation, adding: “We were impressed with the simplicity of the PressurePro system which allows quick implementation on a fleet of vehicles with a robust pressure reading system.”

Trade Group Launch Trademaster T1035

Trademaster recently launched the T1035, hydraulic, two-post car lift, which the company believes will “take the market by storm.” Trade Group spokesman Terry Bullworthy explained: “The Trademaster T1035 is…[an] open top, base type lift, with a 3.5 tonne lifting capacity that has been designed and developed specifically for Trade Group. Importantly, it is has ‘traceable CE approval’ and is manufactured and built to our exacting standards to ensure that safety, quality and reliability are paramount. We believe the Trademaster T1035 is the most cost-effective entrant into the world of two column hydraulic lifts, it has rugged construction, three-stage support arms and ergonomic control allows for safe, easy and efficient operation in the garage workshop.”

The 2 Minute Alloy Wheel Curing Oven

Yorkshire-based manufacturer and supplier of SMART Repair Systems, Ayce Systems, has introduced what it calls “The Cure Rite Curing Oven,” which reportedly cures a Solaq UV lacquered alloy wheel in just two minutes. According to Ayce, this is the fastest process available for fully curing lacquer on alloy wheels. Conventional lacquers take at least 15 to 30 minutes with infra red.

New Yokohama Tyre Low in Petroleum, Rich in Vitamin C

Yokohama Tire Corporation has effectively re-invented the tyre. This bold statement, made in a company press release, refers to the US market launch of Yokohama’s dB Super E-spec passenger car tyre, winner of a Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice Award at the Last November’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The new tyre, which Yokohama refers to as “the world’s first orange oil-infused passenger tyre,” is composed of 80 per cent non-petroleum based materials. These are, specifically, a mixture of sustainable orange oil and natural rubber.

Bridgestone Safety Campaign Gets Underway in India

With an annual road toll hovering at around 100,000 deaths – one of the highest in the world – Bridgestone’s launch of its global ‘Think Before You Drive’ campaign in India is perhaps timely. The campaign, first launched in 2005 and now operating with the backing of FIA member clubs in more than 60 countries, will hopefully help Indian motorists identify the main causes of serious or fatal crashes – and implement simple safety measures before heading off.

Apollo Tyres Appoints New Creative Partner

Capital Advertising is to replace M&C Saatchi as Apollo Tyres’ passenger vehicle business creative partner, a role that will see it handle media related duties for the Indian manufacturer’s entire passenger car tyre range. Speaking to televisionpoint.com, Capital Advertising director Sunil Sachdeva director said Apollo Tyres has recently become a global player and has “very ambitious plans for the road ahead, it is the right time for us to partner them in this preposition.”

The advertising agency previously represented Apollo Tyres through its involvement in the launch of the manufacturer’s two wheeler tyre range almost a decade ago.

Chinese Ministry Expresses “Deep Regret” after US Tyre Ruling

Continuing today’s theme of the fallout from the US International Trade Commission’s ruling that Chinese imports have disrupted the country’s markets, China’s Ministry of Commerce has expressed its “deep regret” at the decision. Yao Jian, a Commerce Ministry spokesperson posted the department’s reaction to the events on the ministry’s website:

“China has repeatedly expressed its opposition to foreign governments’ using safeguard clauses to launch investigations of Chinese products. The decision does not conform to objective facts, and also violates relevant World Trade Organisation rules in addition to U.S. law. We hope the U.S. will fully consider the actual situation of this case and proceed from the overall interests of the two countries’ industries,” Yao said.

Reuters reports that lawyers acting on behalf of Chinese manufacturers are arguing that US companies’ neglect of the low range market had occurred before they moved into the marketplace. The news organisation also notes that the complaint, which originated from the United Steelworkers, had not been voiced by US tyre producers.

Avon Tyres Announces New Website

Avon Tyres has announced the launch of its new website, which the company says is “designed to help car and motorcycle owners choose the perfect tyre.” The homepage features sidebars for its four and two wheel products, each allowing visitors to navigate to information on their desired products quickly. The site was designed, says Avon, in order to help users to browse through Avon’s entire product range quickly and easily, as well as locating their nearest dealer. It also possesses an educational facet, with a technical information section.

Chem-Trend Launches Curing Bladder Treatment for Tyres

Chem-Trend, a global manufacturer of release agents and other process chemical specialties, has announced the launch of Mono-Lube 1111, a new high performance tyre-curing bladder treatment for the tyre manufacturing industry.

Chem-Trend states that initial field tests have shown that tyre-curing bladders coated with Mono-Lube 1111 can extend bladder life up to 40 per cent. Mono-Lube 1111 cures in one hour at room temperature and provides similar performance to coatings that are baked onto the surface of a curing bladder. It can be applied by various methods including brush, sponge or spray application.

The new product is the latest addition to the Mono-Lube family of products for the tyre manufacturing industry. Chem-Trend’s full line of products includes inside tyre paints, outside tyre paints, curing bladder coatings and the Mono-Coat brand of tyre mould treatments.

Woods to Lead Snap-on Diagnostics’ Workshop Equipment Range

Snap-on Diagnostics has appointed Julian Woods as Under Car Product Lead with specific responsibility for Snap-on’s recently introduced new workshop equipment range. In his new role, Julian will be responsible for the new Snap-on range of lifts, tyre changers, wheel balancers and wheel aligners which were introduced in January this year as a result of strong customer demand. Snap-on Diagnostics’ VOSA-approved Sun VIC 3000 ATL Automatic Test Lane has now been added to the under car range and this now also becomes Julian’s responsibility.

Conti Launches Next Generation Commercial Tyres

Continental has announced the launch of its new range of commercial vehicle regional and long distance tyres. The manufacturer has called the launch its “biggest for ten years”, representing four new design features for the second generation of steer and drive tyres, joining the HTR 2, which has been on the market for about a year. The tyres feature entirely new inner liner technology, dubbed AirKeep for its ability to stay inflated for longer, in addition to modifications to the belt, bead and contour design.

Conti is backing up its new range with a “Technology Truck” tour throughout Europe, including a visit to the UK in June, to showcase the range to fleet managers and dealers, as well as providing a new electronic tool, based on research conducted by Continental and certified by DEKRA, which calculates the economic and ecological benefits of fitting the new range to customers’ fleets: the ContiCostCalculator. The series 2 regional and long distance tyres will be available initially in the following sizes: Regional HSR 2 (steer) and HDR 2 (drive) – 295/80R22.5, 315/80R22.5, 315/70R22.5; HTR 2 (trailer) – 385/65R22.5, 445/65R22.5. Long-Distance HSL 2 (steer) and HDL 2 (drive) – 295/60R22.5, 315/60R22.5. The HTL 1 series trailer tyre is still available in sizes 385/55R22.5, 385/55R19.5 and 445/45R19.5.
