Latin Auto Parts Expo dates announced

Latin Expo Group LLC, the event organiser behind the Latin Tyre Expo, have announced plans to hold the 2014 Latin Auto Parts Expo between 9 and 11 July 2014 at the Atlapa Convention Center, Panama City, Panama. The exhibition it pitched at providing manufacturers and distributors direct access to the Latin American and Caribbean OEM, replacement parts and tuning markets in a warm and personal setting that forges long lasting commercial and personal relationships.

Vipal offers tread to improve snow traction for heavy vehicles

Brazilian retreading products manufacturer Vipal has launched its VT160 tyre tread, designed specially to improve the traction of heavy vehicles in snow. The tread was first presented at Autopromotec in Bologna, when Vipal said the tread was suited best to heavy vehicles travelling on a variety of surfaces.

Interstate adds 46 new sizes

Interstate Tire & Rubber Co. increased its already large program with 46 sizes. The total number of sizes of their summer tyre range is now more than 300.

Conti releases ‘World Cup’ tyre in Brazil

Motorists in Brazil, host country for next year’s World Cup, now have the chance to buy an officially-endorsed commemorative tyre. Continental has launched a World Cup edition of its ContiPowerContact, complete with footballs and FIFI World Cup logo on the sidewall. The tyre’s release is being supplemented by an extensive advertising campaign in print and electronic media, radio and television.

Mesnac acquires Test Measurement Systems

Tyre equipment manufacturer and software provider Mesnac has purchased a majority interest in US firm Test Measurement Systems, Inc. (TSMI) for an undisclosed amount. The TSMI brand and identity will be retained following the deal, states Mesnac. Dr. Jerry Potts, CEO of the Akron-based firm, and other senior TSMI management staff will remain with the business and work with Mesnac to identify opportunities for growth, product innovation and diversification.

Goodyear's Latin America business wins Trade Americas Award

Goodyear Tire & Rubber is set to receive its first Trade Americas Award from the Latin Trade Group at this year’s BRAVO Business Awards on 25 October. The tyre maker reports it will be given the BRAVO Trade Americas Award for its “valuable contributions fostering the development of small and medium size enterprises development in the Latin America region.”

Birla reviving PCR plant project

Goodyear income 39% above consensus

Goodyear Tire & Rubber has announced what it says are record second quarter earnings, and even its European business showed signs of improvement. Net income more than doubled year-on-year from $85 million in Q2 2012 to $181 million, or $0.67 per share. This exceeded the average analyst estimate by $0.19, and company chairman and CEO Richard J. Kramer said the result demonstrates “the disciplined execution of our strategies by Goodyear associates around the globe as our operations become more efficient, reliable and integrated.”

Vipal rewarded for export market diversification

Vipal has been recognised for its activities in international markets in an awards ceremony hosted by Porto Alegre trade association ADVB. President Arlindo Paludo received the 2013 Export Award for Market Diversification on 8 July, joining other exporters from the state of Rio Grande do Sul in a variety of categories. Paludo said: “This award is one of the fruits of Vipal’s entire 40 year history. We have always bet on developing products featuring high quality and technology, and have never set environmental preservation aside. It’s a great pleasure to see important competitions like the Export Awards recognizing that.”

TIA VP featured speaker at Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo

Tire Industry Association executive vice president Roy Littlefield will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo, Tire Review reports. The presentation, titled, “What is TIA and What Can TIA Do for You?” is scheduled for 25 July at 10:45. Littlefield is part of panel of speakers comprised of distinguished tire industry leaders. The show takes place between 24-27 July at the Atlapa Convention Center in Panama, Panama.

Pirelli wins VW global supplier award

Pirelli has won the 2013 Volkswagen Group Award for its global partnership, product quality, competitiveness, project management and flexibility. According to the company, VW’s “global champion” Pirelli has produced more than 200 homologations that equip some of the Wolfsburg carmaker’s most prestigious models. Another 250 homologations are currently under development, many of which will go into production within the next few years.

Marangoni opens Argentina Ringtread plant

Marangoni Retreading Systems has inauguration a new manufacturing plant in Argentina, in the city of Alvear, Santa Fe. LeBlanc appointed Hercules Canada sales VP

Hercules Tire Company of Canada has named Terry LeBlanc to the newly-created role of vice-president of Sales. LeBlanc begins in this position on 2 July and reports directly to Hercules Canada President, Rob Keller. He will take on responsibility for Hercules’ Canadian national sales team, P & L, customer relations, and have full responsibility for the strategic direction and management of the company’s sales strategy.

Interstate All Terrain tyre to make debut at Latin American Tyre Expo

Interstate has announced that it will launch a new all-terrain tyre for the US market at the Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo – the first A/T American exclusive in the Benelux-based distributor’s range. The Interstate Tracer A/T will be available immediately following its preview at the Interstate dealer meeting just before the Panama expo, which takes place on 24-27 July. The tyre will be available in 10 LT/SUV fitments, with three-ply tread and/or three-ply sidewall construction in select sizes.

Apollo to buy Cooper for US$2.5 billion

Apollo Tyres has finally confirmed speculation that the India-based manufacturer is to buy US firm Cooper Tire in a friendly takeover. According to the company the US$2.5 billion deal makes the firm the seventh largest tyre manufacturer in the world with combined revenues of US$6.6 billion. It also gives the manufacturer access to the North and South American markets currently uncovered by its global presence. Under the terms of the agreement, which has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies, Cooper stockholders will receive $35.00 per share in cash. The transaction represents a 40 per cent premium to Cooper’s 30-day volume-weighted average price, according to an announcement detailing the news.
