Toyo launches AB-rated NanoEnergy 1 tyre

During Reifen 2012 Toyo Tire launched its NanoEnergy 1 and Nanoenergy 2 tyres which represent both the company’s latest technology and a unique response to the labelling challenge. With the addition of the new tyres and the AB rating that comes with the NanoEnergy 1, Toyo now offers some of the highest European labelling rated products currently available in the market. With both being production ready products rather than concepts tyres, Toyo appears to be communicating that it is aiming to compete at the very top of the market.

Conti ready to roll with labelling on commercial vehicle tyres

Continental states that it tested around 500 truck and bus tyres in preparation for releasing its European label results on 1 July. The German tyre maker says it has now integrated all measured tyre data into the company’s existing internal and external SAP-supported computer systems and made it available to retailers. Unlike passenger car and van tyres, no physical label will be affixed to individual truck and bus tyres, however. Instead, Continental and its sales partners will list the data in the technical documents for the products, at points of sale, on the internet and on invoices.

LeasePlan ready for tyre labelling

As a key partner of the technology leaders in the tyre industry, LeasePlan Corporation N.V. has announced its readiness to comply with the latest EU legislation regarding tyre labelling. As people must surely be aware by now, the new labels will rate fuel-efficiency, wet grip performance, and the exterior rolling noise of tyres.

Al-Dobowi launches Eternity brand

Al Dobowi Group present its new Eternity brand during the recent Reifen 2012 show in Essen. Aimed squarely at the European market Eternity is described as “a new tyre brand for a new generation” and will feature both passenger car and truck and bus lines.

Toyo launches flagship eco tyre

Next week Toyo Tire & Rubber will release its Nanoenergy 0, or Zero, for sale in Japan, complete with a very favourable label rating. The new tyre has been given the highest grade possible for rolling resistance and wet grip performance under the voluntary labelling system established by JATMA, the Japan Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association. Toyo claims the Nanoenergy Zero is the first tyre in Japan to achieve an “AAA” grade for rolling resistance and an “a” for wet grip.

Halfords to use Cam Systems tyre labelling system

Halfords Autocentres has signed a deal with Cam Systems to implement its customer-facing tyre labelling programme across its 260 plus centres. Cam says its system will enable the network to address the EU legislation efficiently, while communicating a high quality, interactive image to motorists. The MIDaS based platform will allow the retailer to print out all the legal tyre label credentials on customer invoice documentation and deliver an option to present the tyre’s labelling characteristics – particularly to deal with the legislation’s “pre offer” stipulations – at point of sale and via the internet.

Michelin online guide tackles the fundamentals of labelling

To help truck, bus and coach fleets get to grips with the new EC/1222/2009 regulation on tyre labelling, Michelin has launched a dedicated tyre labelling information module on its UK website. The tyre maker says the info given at http://www.michelinonline.co.uk/trucktyrelabelling/ explains everything fleet operators need to know about the legislation that comes into force on 1 November 2012, including why it is being introduced, what tyres it covers, an overview of the different rating criteria and what benefits it offers fleets. It also notes that the label is not the be all and end all when it comes to choosing the right tyre.

A new era dawning, says Lanxess

One thing made clear for Lanxess at this year’s Reifen show is that a new era is dawning upon the tyre sector. The specialty chemicals manufacturer noted the high profile enjoyed by green tyres, particularly those aimed at meeting the requirements of the European tyre label.

While falling demand for truck and bus radials is putting pressure on sales of premium and import brands alike, the number of factories and the amounts of tyres each are producing continue to proliferate. Tyres & Accessories recently met with several companies in the same boat at the recent Reifen Show in Essen Germany in June. While the consensus agreed in general terms about the decline in truck tyre demand across Europe as a whole, clearly not everyone’s experience is the same and there could be key strategic reasons why production output seems to carry on regardless.

Cam launching new Online Tyre Catalogue system

Cam Systems has announced plans to launch a new Online Tyre Catalogue (OTC) to provide the UK tyre industry with a central data hub to address the needs of EU legislation. OEMs and Importers will be able to upload their product data updates into the OTC from 1 July 2012.

Michelin releases passenger car tyre wear data

While talk of the new tyre labelling rules remains a hot topic, Michelin has released data showing that its products last the longest. Of course treadwear isn’t mentioned on the new label, but Michelin’s long-term survey of a FN50 fleet recorded every tyre change mileage on its vehicles over the last six years for its most popular car, the Ford Focus. Interestingly the company has also reported the results of leading premium competitors Bridgestone, Continental and Pirelli.

Dolan replaces Tye as Goodyear Dunlop retail director UK

Farrell Dolan has replaced Peter Tye as retail director UK at Goodyear Dunlop. Dolan, who has over 20 years’ experience in the automotive industry, and more than six with Goodyear Dunlop, will be responsible for the business’ retail operations across its HiQ franchise brand and network of retail partners. Former retail director Tye resigned from the company to pursue other opportunities, according to Goodyear Dunlop. Commenting on Tye’s departure George Rietbergen, Goodyear Dunlop UK & Ireland general manager, says: “Peter made a great contribution to our retail business and he leaves with our best wishes. Together with Farrell and the team, we are now focused on the exciting future ahead for our retail division.”

Dawson Rentals chooses Bandvulc

Dawson Rentals has chosen Bandvulc Tyres to supply its commercial tyre requirements plus management of its casing collections across the UK, following previous business with a global tyre manufacturer. According to the company, benchmarking on “each and every aspect of tyre supply” took place to ensure that Dawson Rentals maintained and improved its service to its clients. This process saw Bandvulc win out.
