Kwik-Fit names Andy Fern as new fleet sales director

Andy Fern has joined Kwik-Fit as fleet sales director following an 18-year career with Michelin, most recently as national fleet sales manager. He replaces Peter Lambert who has retired after seven years as Kwik-Fit GB fleet director. Meanwhile, Simon Lucas has been promoted to the new role of customer support director of Kwik Fit GB. This role includes responsibility for Kwik-Fit Mobile, numbering some 200 vehicles, and the management of the company’s Customer Support Centre in Tannochside, Scotland, serving both fleet and retail customers. Both Fern and Lucas will report directly to Kwik-Fit GB managing director Kenji Murai.

Kwik Fit: Many Mail on Sunday statements inaccurate

The Mail on Sunday has engaged in a spot of sleuthing, and claims that Kwik Fit charged its undercover reporters for car parts that were never changed and urged them to consent to certain repairs it says were unnecessary. In response, a spokesperson for the vehicle repair and fast-fit chain states that the Mail on Sunday article “focused on a small number of allegations with which we fundamentally disagree.”

According to Kwik Fit, more than 7.3 million British drivers have experienced battery trouble in the last two years, with 57 per cent of these motorists needing to replace the battery in their car.

Kwik Fit begins roll-out of ‘Mobile7’ tyre fitting service

Fleet and retail customers located within the area encircled by the M25 can now arrange for Kwik Fit to mount tyres on their vehicles between 8:30am and 8:30pm, seven days a week. While operating hours for the rest of the UK remain 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 1pm on a Saturday, the new ‘Mobile7’ format will be extended to other metropolitan areas in 2017.

New research for Kwik Fit, the UK’s largest automotive servicing and repair company, has revealed that the average driver knows only 79 per cent of UK road sign meanings, with one in five road signs a mystery. The research even reports that the majority of adults think drivers should retake their driving test periodically.

Kwik Fit: Brexit keeping holidaymakers in UK

For many, it seems, Brexit means holidays at home. Research conducted on behalf of Kwik Fit suggests that more than 2 million UK holidaymakers intend to shun holidays abroad this year as a result of the Brexit referendum’s outcome. Based on the responses of survey participants, the tyre and car servicing network anticipates that 1.5 million Britons who otherwise would have travelled overseas will now holiday at home, while 900,000 are no longer going on holiday at all this year. On the other hand, Kwik Fit comments that 850,000 people have decided against staying in the UK and now plan to go abroad.

Micheldever’s Protyre retail chain is UK’s fastest growing

This year’s UK tyre retail ranking shows that the fastest growing tyre retailer is Micheldever’s Protyre chain, which added some 21 branches to its network in the last year – by far the fastest growth (both in terms of branch count and growth percentage) of any tyre retailer we are tracking. Nevertheless, ETEL remains the largest overall and is also the fastest faller, with the company running 9 points of sale less than in our 2014/2015 research. Kwik Fit doubles fleet warranty on brake parts

Kwik Fit has doubled the fleet warranty it offers on friction brake parts. According to the company, it is an “industry-leading move that will deliver operating cost savings to the corporate sector”. This means the firm now offers 24 months/24,000 miles warranty, up from 12 months/12,000 miles across brake pads, discs, drums and shoes. Kwik Fit reports that it is able to do this due to the training and workmanship of its expert technicians.

Kwik Fit expanding into Italy, across Europe

The Kwik Fit Group has agreed a partnership deal that sees the Kwik Fit tyre retail and fast-fit brand expand into Italy. Under the terms of the agreement, 200 centres are set to open over the next decade.

The expansion is based on a franchise agreement with CDG-ONE, part of Segema S.p.A., a leading tyre distribution group in Italy. Segema imports and distributes Yokohama tyres in Italy through Yokohama Italia S.p.A. and GiTi Tyres through Magri Gomme S.p.A.

Edinburgh Award for Kwik Fit founder

Sir Tom Farmer, founder of the Kwik Fit automotive services network, has been named as the ninth person to receive the prestigious Edinburgh Award. The entrepreneur and philanthropist was selected to receive the accolade from a shortlist of nominations cast by the Edinburgh public. He will receive an engraved Loving Cup from the city’s Lord Provost at a ceremony within the City Chambers early next year.

Watchdog: Kwik Fit charged customers for nitrogen without asking

Leading national tyre retailer Kwik Fit found itself subject to investigation by the BBC’s Watchdog consumer programme on 5 November, with presenters asking: “They sell 5 million tyres a year, but are they inflating bills by charging for thin air?” Following that less that auspicious introduction, based on customer complaints and the testimony of a whistle-blower that still works in Kwik Fit branches, Watchdog went on to suggest the national fast fit chain is charging customers £1.50 per tyre for nitrogen inflation without asking.
