Dunlop equipping Italian Superbike championship
The organisers of the Campionato Italiano Velocità (CIV) have selected Dunlop as the exclusive tyre supplier for the championship’s flagship Superbike category, in a deal spanning the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The arrangement was announced during a pre-season presentation at the MotorBikeExpo and makes Dunlop sole tyre supplier for three of CIV’s five categories, as the brand is already the tyre partner to the Italian platform’s Moto3 and Pre-Moto3 classes.
Megaride acquires Wriggle Solutions Technologies

150th anniversary: Pirelli delegation meets Italy’s President
The President of Italy has received a delegation from Pirelli, headed by executive vice-president and chief executive officer Marco Tronchetti Provera, to mark the company’s upcoming 150th anniversary. Tronchetti Provera described the meeting with President Mattarella as a “great honour” for him and the Pirelli contingent.
Marangoni Group returns to tyre retail business

As reported by our Italian sister company PneusNews.it, the group best known for its extensive retreading heritage, recently took over the company La Genovese gomme (LGg). The tyre retail chain runs five locations in Sardinia (specifically Sassari, Oristano, Olbia, Macomer and Elmas) and together with the production of retreaded tyres to support them. LGg also makes retreads at its Elmas locations “using the best possible materials”.
Pirelli extends tyre tech research partnership
A decade after the first agreement, Pirelli, Milan Polytechnic and Polytechnic Foundation have signed off a three-year continuation of their ‘Joint Labs’ programme, which centres upon research projects that advance tyre-related technological innovation.
Matteo Tiraboschi to succeed Bombassei as Brembo chairman
The Board of Directors of Brembo S.p.A. has named Matteo Tiraboschi, currently executive deputy chairman, preferred candidate to become its chairman following the resignation of Alberto Bombassei. Tiraboschi’s appointment will be on the agenda at a General Shareholders’ Meeting scheduled for 17 December, along with a proposal to amend the company’s by-laws in order to create the new role of Chairman Emeritus.
BKT-supported Tractor of the Year 2022 announces winners
Agricultural tyre specialist BKT has supported the 2021 edition of the Tractor of the Year Awards, presented at the EIMA trade fair in Bologna. It is the second time the manufacturer has sponsored the awards, which recognise the most innovative and cutting-edge tractors on the market.

Vipal sponsors Italian rally driver, deepens Ral Gomme partnership
Vipal Rubber has become official sponsor of Fabio Farina, an Italian competitor in the Italian Rally Championship 2021 (CIR), International Rally Cup (IRCup), Peugeot Trophy and the Under 25 race. The retread and tyre repairs supplier says that Farina is “one of the most outstanding drivers of the new Italian generation in the category.” He is the son of Luca Farina, owner of Ral Gomme SRL, a major tyre retreader in Pietramurata, Trento, Italy, and partner of Vipal.
Football: Nexen Tire becomes AC Milan’s tyre partner
AC Milan and Nexen Tire have announced a new partnership that will see the South Korean brand become the football club’s new tyre partner in the Italian market. The announcement follows a positive season for the ‘Rossoneri’, which saw AC Milan secure a second-place finish in the top-flight Serie A championship and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Pirelli P Zero RA tyres lock out Rally di Roma podium
Giandomenico Basso beat Italian rally champion Andrea Crugnola and Hungary’s Norbert Herczig to make an all-Pirelli podium at the Rally di Roma Capitale. The round of both the Italian and European championships is contested over 13 asphalt stages, with competitors using the consistent Pirelli RA5 tyres, which contended with high ground temperatures of up to 60 degrees centigrade.

Connected cars: Market worth 1.8 billion euros in 2020, ADAS accounts for a third
CarGlassDuring the pandemic year 2020, connected and intelligent car solutions reached a value of 1.8 billion euros. A third of the market is represented by ADAS systems (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, equating to 600 million euros). The largest segment is constituted by so-called solutions for the connected car, which in 2020 slowed down to 1.18 billion euros (-2%), after having grown in double figures during both 2018 (+ 31%) and in 2019 (+ 14%). Similar trends can be seen across Western countries, which oscillate between -5 per cent and + 5 per cent.
Destination Italy – Goodyear’s latest Blimp tour
This is certainly Italy’s week, and not just on the football pitch. A fortnight after taking in London and Southern England, the Goodyear Blimp is cruising towards Milan and will arrive there on Thursday. In addition to flying over the city, it will provide motorsport fans with aerial coverage of the WEC 6 Hours of Monza on 18 July.
