Wolfsburg footballers ‘appear’ on Linglong’s anniversary stand

This year Linglong Tire marks its 40th anniversary. To this end, the company’s Autopromotec 2015 stand carried suitably celebratory messages, not to mention the “appearance” of two top-flight footballers.

As “Top Partner” to German Bundesliga VfL Wolfsburg, Linglong Tire displayed the life-size full-body photos of Wolfsburg stars Kevin De Bruyne and Bas Dost for visitors to take pictures next to. Linglong Tire also hosted a football shooting game during the exhibition, which was reportedly “warmly welcomed” by visitors.

Intergomma shows entire Aeolus range at Autopromotec

Having working together since 1997, at this year’s Autopromotec Italian distributor Intergomma SpA showed tyres representing the entire Aeolus range. The centrepieces were the two forks of the new ACE2 range, the ultra high-performance SteeringACE2 and high-performance PrecisionACE2.

Dmack anticipates WRC ‘longest day’ in Sardinia

Dmack has identified next week’s Rally Italia Sardegna, round six of the FIA World Rally Championship, as a demanding test. The tyre brand says challenging road conditions and high temperatures promise to punish both tyres and cars, with the biggest challenge on Saturday: competitors will tackle over 200km of stages, the longest day in WRC since 2012.

Autopromotec reports strong international growth of visitors, exhibitors

Promotec Spa, the organisers of last month’s Autopromotec exhibition in Bologna Italy, have reported final figures that show a strong increase in the international presence both in terms of exhibitors and visitors.

According to the company, the 2015 show attracted a total of 103,989 visitors (up 1.4 per cent over the 2013 figure). 83,343 of these were Italian visitors (down 0.3 per cent over 2013). The biggest growth was seen in the total number of international visitors. At 20,646, this figure was up 9 per cent compared with the 2013 figure.

Inter Milan be warned: No Europa league, no Pirelli sponsorship

Italian football club F.C. Internazionale Milano recently unveiled its home kit for the upcoming 2015/16 season, a strip that prominently displays the name Pirelli – an Inter Milan sponsor since 1995 and former shareholder in the club – on the shirt. But a question mark now hangs over whether this partnership will last another season. Pirelli CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera has indicated that the tyre maker’s interest in sponsoring Inter Milan may wane if the club fails to secure a berth in next season’s Europa League.

Pirelli a ‘top partner’ for Zanetti & Friends charity football match

Pirelli has confirmed its participation as top partner in the ‘Zanetti & Friends’ charity football match scheduled to take place in Milan’s San Siro stadium on 4 May. The event will see current and recent players from local and international football clubs take the field, players who share a connection with the city of Milan and with Inter Milan’s ‘Il Capitano’, Javier Zanetti. In addition to serving as vice-president of F.C. Internazionale Milano, the former team captain is also founder of the PUPI Foundation, an organisation focused on helping children and teenagers. The PUPI Foundation has organised the Zanetti & Friends Match for Expo to highlight the issue of and support children’s nutrition.

ChemChina’s latest Pirelli shares held indirectly

Following the news that China National Tire & Rubber Co. (CNRC), a subsidiary of China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina), entered into a binding agreement with Edizione with respect to the purchase of 1.574 per cent of the share capital of Pirelli on 13 April, company representatives have issued a clarification that these shares are held indirectly.

The latest share purchase suggests ChemChina is in the second phase of its acquisition en route to a publically stated goal of owning 65 per cent of Pirelli.

Will sale to ChemChina alter Pirelli’s motorsport focus?

After the second grand prix of the second year of Pirelli’s second three-year stint as exclusive Formula One tyre supplier, Motorsport director Paul Hembery addressed questions about its F1 programme in the ChemChina-owned era. “For us, it’s business as normal,” Hembery told motorsport magazine, Autosport. Indeed, the centrality of top-level motorsport to the manufacturer’s brand – “Motorsport for Pirelli remains key,” in Hembery’s words – is an obvious attraction to a Chinese company buying into the premium manufacturer’s market positioning.

Italian launch for Kumho Flagship Store programme

Following the rollout of similar facilities in South Korea, the US, Australia and the UK, Kumho Tire opened its first ‘Kumho Flagship Store’ in Italy on 20 March. As in the other markets, the Italian flagship centre scheme aims to reward and help dealers who focus on the Kumho brand. The first facility, at the Pneus2000 centre in Offanengo, Cremona province, was selected from within the tyre maker’s Kumho Platinum Club network in Italy and will be followed in the near future by other centres in main cities throughout the country.

Pirelli/ChemChina deal, the story so far

On 22 March 2015 Pirelli was sold to ChemChina in a move that was both broadly expected and yet surprising at the same time. Expected inasmuch as Pirelli’s top management had been hinting at an exit for the last couple of years. Surprising due to the identity of the successful bidder and because of the speed at which the acquisition appears to have been agreed.
