Rosberg prevails in Italy as mix of strategies sees all 3 Pirelli compounds employed

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg won the Italian Grand Prix from second on the grid using a one-stop strategy – the winning strategy in recent years as well – starting on the P Zero Yellow soft tyre, and then switching to the P Zero medium halfway through the race. His teammate Lewis Hamilton finished second with an identical strategy. The mix of strategies on show is proven by the fact that Rosberg and Hamilton were the only two drivers who qualified in the top 10 to start the race on the soft tyre. Pirelli says this gave them the possibility to drive a longer first stint than the supersoft starters, forming the key strategic battle for the podium.

Trelleborg agricultural Road Show continues in Italy

The second European stop of the Trelleborg 2016 Road Show for agricultural tyres begins today at the Nova Agricoltura exhibition in Italy. As was the case when the company kicked off its tour in Germany last month, Trelleborg will use the event in Bologna to showcase the selecting the optimal tyre inflation pressure for specific farming operations, as recommended using the Trelleborg Load Calculator (TLC).

Profits up 60% at Univergomma

Italian tyre wholesaler Univergomma Spa reported increased sales and strongly improved profits in its full-year 2015 results.

The full-year 2015 figures show that the company achieved a turnover of 96.7 million euros up to 31 December 2015. This was based on sales increases of 4.3 per cent in value and +4.7 per cent in volume compared with the previous year. Year-on-year, pre-tax profits (EBITDA) was 8 million euros, up 60 per cent. The net final result of approximately 3 million euros improved by 72.5 per cent.

Marangoni names new president, VP

Vittorio Marangoni has taken over as president of Marangoni SpA. His appointment to the position was confirmed at a meeting of the retreading and tyre machinery specialist’s Board of Directors late last month. The Board also named Giuseppe Marangoni the company’s new vice-president, while company founder Mario Marangoni received the title of honorary president as a mark of respect for his more than 60 years of commitment in leading the Marangoni Group.

Pre-registrations for Autopromotec on the rise

Autopromotec, which will be held at the Bologna Trade Fair Center (May 24-28, 2017) has just disclosed the first figures related to 2017 pre-registrations. Marangoni outsources transport & distribution in Italy to CEVA

Retreading specialist Marangoni has selected CEVA Logistics to transport and distribute its industrial and commercial tyres throughout Italy. The three-year contract between Marangoni and the supply chain company will see CEVA collect tyres pre-selected by Marangoni for retreading, ship them to a Marangoni-owned warehouse near the company’s Rovereto retreading facility, and then distribute new and retreaded tyres to both retailers and distributors around the country.

Kwik Fit expanding into Italy, across Europe

The Kwik Fit Group has agreed a partnership deal that sees the Kwik Fit tyre retail and fast-fit brand expand into Italy. Under the terms of the agreement, 200 centres are set to open over the next decade.

The expansion is based on a franchise agreement with CDG-ONE, part of Segema S.p.A., a leading tyre distribution group in Italy. Segema imports and distributes Yokohama tyres in Italy through Yokohama Italia S.p.A. and GiTi Tyres through Magri Gomme S.p.A.

Kenda Tires embarks on Serie A advertising campaign

Kenda Tires will be promoting its brand on LED perimeter boards within the stadiums of leading Italian Serie A football teams Fiorentina, Lazio Rome, Sampdoria Genua, Udinese Calcio and CFC Genua.

According to the contract with Serie A marketer Infront, Kenda’s advertising will be displayed on all four sides of the playing field. Advertising in Italy’s top league is expected to allow Kenda to reach not only the fans attending the matches, but also millions of TV viewers via SKY Italia Go, Mediaset Premium, and Italy’s biggest club channel, the Juventus channel.

Italian touring car championship to run on Hankook tyres

Hankook is now the exclusive tyre partner to the Campionato Italiano Turismo (Italian Touring Car Championship). The tyre maker says its partnership with the brand new championship takes effect immediately and will be maintained for the “next couple of years.” The 2016 Campionato Italiano Turismo season commences in Monza on 22 May and incorporates seven race weekends. All of the 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged saloons racing in the series will compete on Hankook Ventus Race tyres in size 260/660 R 18.

Top Ruote becomes regional Membat distributor in Italy

Membat, the Barcelona-designed “Mediterranean tyre brand”, has appointed Top Ruote its distributor in the Marche and Abruzzo regions of Italy. The tyre and wheel distributor and wholesaler will have exclusive rights to the Membat brand within these two territories. Through this arrangement, Membat anticipates “considerably” higher sales through Top Ruote and a closer business relationship.

Pirelli’s Inter Milan sponsorship to continue

In Milan, FC Internazionale, perhaps better known as Inter Milan, and Pirelli have confirmed that they are finalising an agreement for a five-year, long-term relationship regarding the football club’s shirt sponsorship deal. No details of the financial arrangements were given, except that the deal will include a fixed component and a variable one, based on the team’s sporting performance.

Closures: Dark clouds over Marangoni’s Rovereto site

Dark clouds currently hang over Via del Garda in Rovereto, Italy. Around 290 workers at the Marangoni Group’s headquarters site have been on strike since yesterday, prompted by a decision taken by their representative union last Friday. The workers are fighting for the future of their jobs and fear for the future of their employer. According to local media, company CEO Massimo de Alessandri has described Marangoni’s situation as “increasingly difficult.” Many of those affected are questioning the company’s future and worry that Marangoni plans to lay off up to 50 per cent of the site’s workforce. Speaking with Tyres & Accessories, de Alessandri stated that such a reduction is a matter “of pure speculation” promoted by insecure workers and unions.

Pirelli signs R&D competitiveness agreement with regional government

As part of its activities to develop a new generation of tyres based upon the concept of “total safety,” Pirelli is undertaking a two-year research and development project that aims to optimise the conception and planning of new products. The name of this project is Total Safety System. Pirelli says it is investing a total of €5.35 million in the project, which is being carried out at its Milan headquarters’ R&D facility, and the work will be supported by the Lombardy regional government through a €1.9 million grant. The grant was formalised through the signing of a competitiveness agreement between the Lombardy regional government and Pirelli on 9 February.
