Launch UK has unveiled its latest generation of diagnostic tools. Centring on the X-431 PRO, the line is said to offer a full fault system diagnosis for American, Asian and European vehicle manufacturers. As one the first Android based diagnostic tools, X-431 provides greater speed, reliability and ease of use over other diagnostic tools.
During the course of last year more than a million new customers purchased tyres through Delticom’s online portals. And for the first time in the company’s history, the number of repeat purchasers also passed the half-million mark.
Tyre comparison site Rezulteo.com is claiming record traffic in 2013, with 1 million visits and 875,000 unique users in November – up 68 per cent. This means the firm has attracted a total of 6.4 million unique visitors in 2013 across the 20 countries it operates in – up 56 per cent. According to the company, this equates to 10 per cent of Internet searches performed by tyre buyers in Europe. In addition the website has also announced that it is partnering “Corriere dello Sport” in Italy.
Continental has been working on automated driving systems for some time now, and began open road trials of this technology early last year. It also entered into a research partnership with BMW to develop an ‘electronic co-pilot’ in January 2013. The German firm is now extending its collaborative activities; the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper shared on 21 August that Continental intends to develop self-driving cars together with IBM and Google.
Tyres purchased through the mytyres.co.uk site and a number of other Delticom portals can now be paid for using PayPal.
Goodyear has launched a free European Road Safety App for Android and iOS platforms. The application, available for use in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch, is designed to help guide tourists through other European country’s road laws and requirements. Users get an overview of 25 European countries, including popular destinations such as Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Portugal and Switzerland, as well as the larger western European markets. It provides such information as speed limits on highways and in the cities, alcohol levels allowed for drivers, tips for a safer drive, how to act in case of an accident, and local emergency phone numbers.
Back in 2011, Tyres & Accessories brought you news of Bruno, the mastiff cross undergoing ‘therapy’ in New Zealand after his anger issues resulted in the destruction of tyres fitted to two police cars and another vehicle. While we don’t know whether Bruno responded to treatment or if he’s still barking mad, it has come to our attention that a local news report of the tyre-tearing dog has gone viral.
The phrase “looks like you’ve got a flat – let me fix it for you” sounds like a clumsy pick-up line, and for a 25-year old Japanese man it may also turn out to be an expensive one. Our friend the Internet reports the tale of Yoshihito Harada, whose desire to meet women prompted a spate of tyre slashings in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture.
According to audited financial statements for the 2012 fiscal year, internet tyre retailer Delticom AG recorded revenues of 456.4 million euros, 4.9 per cent less than a year earlier. The company’s EBIT margin was also down, from 11.0 per cent in 2011 to 7.1 per cent last year. Consolidated net income was 22.2 million euros or 1.87 euros per share, as compared with 3.04 euros a share in 2011.
This week an important automotive component celebrates its 110th birthday. No, it’s not the pneumatic tyre – John Boyd Dunlop is credited with its creation in 1887 – the birthday kid is the speedometer. Hull-based Tyremen reports that it recently launched the UK TyreNetwork (UKTN) to offer a fitting service throughout the UK for its internet customers. After choosing the tyres they need on the Tyremen website, the UKTN allows drivers wherever they are in the country to order and pay for the tyres they need and have them fitted at a garage of their choice.
Continental states that it tested around 500 truck and bus tyres in preparation for releasing its European label results on 1 July. The German tyre maker says it has now integrated all measured tyre data into the company’s existing internal and external SAP-supported computer systems and made it available to retailers. Unlike passenger car and van tyres, no physical label will be affixed to individual truck and bus tyres, however. Instead, Continental and its sales partners will list the data in the technical documents for the products, at points of sale, on the internet and on invoices.
