Milltek has released details of its new performance exhaust system for the new BMW M135i. The latest F20 chassis car features BMW’s twin scroll turbo engine, which Milltek says suits its extraction technology and craftsmanship. Initially launched as a cat-back only set-up, Milltek will provide the additional option of a turbo-back system, complete with large bore downpipe and high-flow cat configurations.
The Government should thoroughly examine ways to improve the safety of young drivers and their passengers, says PACTS, the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. It welcomes the forthcoming Government green paper on young driver safety. Despite public and parliamentary concern, successive governments have not got to grips with the issue, according to a policy paper from PACTS, issued ahead of a debate in Parliament on road safety on Thursday 25 April.
Pensioners are more likely to be able to change a flat tyre than spritely 18 – 24 year olds, according to a survey published today by price comparison site gocompare.com. 48 per cent of those surveyed, which equates to over 13.5 million UK motorists, would not be able to change a flat tyre without help, and that figure includes three quarters (75 per cent) of women drivers.
Acorn Infinity Motorsport has announced the signing of ex-Team Japspeed driver Stephen Biagioni, for the 2013 Maxxis British Drift Championship. The news follows details of the team’s plans to compete in all three classes in this year’s championship, doubling the number of cars competing to four; the man known as “Baggsy” finished fifth out of 33 competitors in the 2012 series’ Super Professional class, helping Japspeed claim the Team Championship. In 2013 he joins founding members Mark Lappage and Ian Waddington, and new academy driver in the Semi Professional class, Martyn Lowe in the expanded Acorn Infinity Motorsport team, which will look to improve on its fourth-place finish in 2012.
Foxy Lady Drivers Club has opened what it says is the UK's first female friendly accident repairer network. According to the network, Women drivers can now search for a female friendly business across much of the UK for when they need their car servicing, MOT'd or repaired including all kinds of mechanical work as well as major accident damage and more minor bodywork repairs like car park dents or damaged alloys. The new Foxy Lady Approved accident repair network opened for business on Monday 7 January with an initial 90 accident repair centres featured.

UK motorists will waste nearly £50 million of fuel this winter by leaving their cars to idle with the engine running in order to defrost them, a new study of regular drivers by Direct Line Car Insurance has discovered.
The fuel wasted equates to over 300 million road miles and would enable someone to drive an average size car more than 13,000 times around the world.

Having qualified third fastest at Donington Park on 8-9 September, Hill posted a double podium for the fifth consecutive round, finishing second in race one and third in the second race. His seven wins so far this season – at Oulton Park, where he followed up an early season victory with an impressive, first ever hat-trick in the championship in July, and at Snetterton and Knockhill – have earned him 35 podium credits, giving him a 10 point lead over nearest rival Josh Brookes of Tyco Suzuki. Hill now heads the elite group of six riders representing six different teams when the Showdown gets underway at the Assen TT Circuit in the Netherlands on 21-23 September. Alex Lowes (WFR Honda) and Tommy Bridewell (Supersonic BMW) have joined defending champion Hill, Brookes, Shane Byrne (Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki) and Michael Laverty (Samsung Honda) as Title Fighters.
A motorcycle repair centre opened by Altrincham-based insurance specialist Carole Nash is celebrating its tenth birthday. The Carole Nash Repair Centre opened in August 2002 following a £250,000 investment. Since then it has rescued and repaired thousands of bikes nationwide which were damaged in accidents or through attempted thefts.
Careless drivers will be targeted under new proposals announced for consultation by Road Safety Minister Mike Penning. The proposals would make fixed penalty notices available for careless driving, giving the police greater flexibility in dealing with less serious careless driving offences and freeing them from resource intensive enforcement processes. The fixed penalty will also enable the police to offer educational training as an alternative to endorsement. Drivers would still be able to appeal any decision in court.
