Pneumatic Components (PCL) has appointed Bryan Fincham to the role of area sales manager to spearhead the business’ growth in the South. Fincham, who has over 20 years’ experience in sales across various sectors including automotive and FMCG, will focus on increasing sales in the South of England through new and organic business development.
Almost 40 per cent of cars in the UK are running on at least one tyre that is “dangerously” or “very dangerously” underinflated.
The figures come after Michelin and Kwik Fit inspected more than 500 vehicles in Tesco car parks around the UK.
Michelin classifies tyres that are between 7psi and 14psi below the manufacturer’s recommendation as “dangerously underinflated”, while 14 psi or more underinflation is deemed to be “very dangerous.”
On 12 November Michelin announced it had bought PTG and Téléflow – both industry leaders in tyre pressure control systems which allow users to monitor and adapt tyre pressures according to the terrain and conditions of use. These acquisitions signal Michelin’s intention to become the global leader for Central Tyre Inflation Systems (CTIS) in the agricultural market. No pricetags associated with the purchases have yet been revealed, but Europe is known to be the centre of the segment, which is valued at around US$1.7 billion in 2017.

Sigmavision has announced the findings of a recent survey conducted in collaboration with Bridgestone and First Stop at the recent Sky Sports British Masters golf event. The company’s technicians surveyed 2,400 cars over two days away from the fairways and greens at The Grove, measuring tyre tread depths with Sigmavision’s TreadReader handheld scanners. The results of the survey back up Bridgestone’s hypothesis that motorists currently do not make the regular checks necessary to ensure their tyres are safe.
The new range of industrial UK built Clarke belt driven air compressors from Machine Mart will provide the air capacity and power needed for many commonly used air compressor tools, satisfying the requirements for any garage, factory, workshop or farm.
These industrial compressors feature 100 to 200 litre CE certified air receivers, 14cfm air displacement and 10 bar (150 psi) maximum working pressure with a fully controllable automatic pressure switch.

AME International, the Florida-based tyre service tool manufacturer, has launched a new handheld digital tyre inflator called the Dura-Flate.

Mitas will exhibit a new product at FIMA in Zaragoza, Spain on 16-20 February. The AirCell is an inner tyre that enables the inflation of large agricultural tyres by +/- 1 bar (from 0.8 bar to 1.8 bar) within half a minute. It is more than 10 times faster than the current method of inflation.
The number of employees driving on correctly inflated tyres has hit a new high at Arval, thanks to a series of annual tyre safety awareness events run in conjunction with Michelin.
Results from this year’s Michelin ‘Fill Up With Air’ roadshow revealed that of the 135 employee personal and company cars tested on the day, 73 per cent had all four tyres running at either perfect pressures or within acceptable tolerances. Just because a tyre looks correctly inflated, it doesn’t mean it necessarily is. I was reminded of this the last time my car’s tyres were treated to a pitifully infrequent air pressure check. But at least I’m in good company when it comes to tyre pressure sloppiness. Tyre Bay Direct shares that a recent roadside survey performed by Sussex Police found 73 per cent of all inspected cars to have tyres at least 5psi above or below their recommended handbook pressure.
PCL has named PC Products International Co Ltd as its new distributor in Thailand. PC Products, is primarily a manufacturer of wheel balancing weights, but is now also PCL’s official local partner in Thailand servicing the automotive and tyreshop markets.
