Ever-stricter regulations for reducing CO2 emissions require fuel-efficient products, whilst autonomous driving demands reliable and precise steering systems. Lighting and electronics expert Hella produces electronic control units (ECU) for electrical power steering (EPS) to support and promote these objectives, as they allow needs-based steering assistance, by means of an electronically controlled electric motor, which saves energy and aids control. Since production started in 2010, 20 million units have now rolled off the assembly line.
As a respected original equipment (OE) manufacturer and systems supplier, Hella is already at the forefront of automotive technology with its involvement in areas such as ADAS (advance driver assistance systems) and LED lighting solutions. However, the company is now looking further into the future to redefine the limits of present and future camera evolution.
Range expansion is a constant process for HELLA, one of the world’s leading original equipment (OE) component and system suppliers, and with the addition of 89 new-to-range (NTR) products for passenger car, light commercial vehicle (LCV) and workshop applications, HELLA continues to further equip the workshop.
The range extension has a particular bias toward sensors, which reflects their growing influence in the modern vehicle. Many of these are HELLA manufactured products that further emphasise the company’s core OE competence and the importance it places on developing the three key design areas of emissions, safety and comfort. These latest additions include boost pressure, brake booster, exhaust pressure, intake manifold pressure, particle and wheel speed sensors.
Lighting and electronics expert HELLA and Chinese BAIC Group company Beijing HAINACHUAN Automotive Parts Co. Ltd. (BHAP) have announced, through a joint statement, that they intend to expand their existing collaboration, which has focused on the development and production of lighting systems for the Chinese market, to cover the electronics and aftermarket business.
Hella offers motor factors and workshops the ideal solution for remanufactured rotating electrics. With an increasing number of electronic devices being incorporated into the modern vehicle, there are far greater loads on the electrical systems, which means that the need to replace components, such as alternators, has become far more frequent.
Due to the magnitude of the project, HELLA is extending the deadline for applicants to its worldwide calendar competition until 20th November and is therefore urging workshops to take advantage of the extra time and take this great opportunity for some fantastic publicity!
In order to provide its customers with technical expertise and support, Hella has launched a new, free of charge online portal. The Hella Tech World site aims to give workshops a “genuine advantage” by “allowing them to develop a greater level of technical competence” that will contribute to the overall success of their business.
Lighting and electronics specialist Hella is investing in its headquarters in Lippstadt, Germany, and construction will soon commence on a new visitor, administrative and exhibition centre under construction in the immediate proximity to the company’s existing headquarters building. Hella says the new addition will transform the site “into a high-tech location.” At the same time, an urban planning competition is scheduled for the future use of the company’s adjacent former plant site
HELLA is looking for workshops that have ‘something special’ to feature in the company’s 2019 “Experts At Work” calendar to celebrate the dedication and commitment that technicians make to the industry globally.
Hella continues its trend of year-on-year growth, boosted in no small part by the recent introduction of Hella Hengst filtration and the continued development of Sonne. However, the success has also been attributed to growing awareness across the industry of the necessity to recalibrate the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) following service or repair work to a vehicle’s steering geometry, in which its brand, Hella Gutmann Solutions, is the aftermarket leader.
Original equipment supplier and established aftermarket player Hella has reported what it calls an “extremely successful” financial year. During the 12 months to 31 May 2017, the company lifted both its earnings and profitability.
Hella’s paint brand, Sonne, has grown exponentially in the past year, which is why the team behind the popular brand is introducing Colin Thompson into the Sonne group, as its new business development manager, Thompson has a wealth of knowledge and experience that has been accrued in successful roles within the automotive industry. He specialises in refinishing, tools and equipment and service segments.
During the past decade alone, the level of electronics and electronic systems used throughout a typical vehicle has significantly increased, and it is estimated that electronics now account for 30 per cent of a vehicle’s total production cost. Moving forward it’ll be increasingly the job of workshops to ensure all manner of systems function correctly, and as many components are intrinsically integrated into a vehicle’s engine management system, their presence is going to have an enormous impact upon the aftermarket. Hella states it is leveraging its strengths in sensor technology development to ease technicians’ jobs – the company has produced a wide range of original equipment products that includes intelligent battery sensors, vacuum pumps, accelerator pedal sensors, oil level sensors, air quality sensors, knock sensors and map controlled sensors.
Hella and ZF are entering into a strategic partnership. Both automotive suppliers will benefit from this cooperation on sensor technology, particularly for front camera systems, imaging and radar systems. ZF will further strengthen its portfolio as a systems supplier, which offers both modern assistance systems and autonomous driving functions and Hella will drive technological development and benefits from a broader market access with its leading technologies. The first joint development project in camera technology will start immediately, with the objective of a market launch in 2020.
