Nearly half of British motorists would change jobs to halt traffic misery

UK traffic volumes are rising at unprecedented rates, and Goodyear Tyres UK has examined the impact the resulting congestion is having on everyday British lives. The stress of getting stuck in traffic is having such a profound impact on wellbeing that nearly half (46 per cent) of those surveyed would consider changing their job as a result. Not only that, but with driverless vehicles promising to alter the traffic equation by making commutes more convenient, 40 per cent would consider giving up their city life to move to the suburbs.

Vacu-Lug fined £300,000 in forklift death case

Lincolnshire-based Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres Limited was been fined £300,000 on 15 September after a worker died when the fork lift truck he was driving overturned at the company Grantham headquarters three years earlier.

Lincoln Crown Court heard the worker was transporting tyres on 30 July 2014 when the fork lift ran over a loose tyre in the road. He was crushed between the fork lift truck and the ground and later died from his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

ATS Euromaster launches new health and safety programme

ATS Euromaster has launched a new health and safety programme in a bid to further enhance its award-winning health and safety provision.

The new programme, entitled ‘Think safe: Home safe’, expands and rebrands ATS Euromaster’s ‘Five Cardinal Rules’ as the ‘Lifesaving Rules’, emphasising how health and safety regulations protect the lives of colleagues and customers.

Transport and distribution workers worry about sick leave

Workers in the “transport & distribution” sector are worried about a loss of income when they have to take time off work for being sick, according to a new study. The study, commissioned by insurance company There researched the sick day habits of 25 different industries. Transportation and distribution workers take more time off work due to serious injuries sustained on the job than almost any other industry.

Are you breaking the law over Health & Safety poster?

Large numbers of businesses throughout the UK are breaking the law and risk being fined after new legislation introduced earlier this year now requires all workplaces to display a new and updated Health and Safety Law Poster.

However many workplaces are unaware of the changes, which were introduced on 5th April 2014, and are still displaying the old poster which was first introduced and became a legal requirement in all workplaces in 1999.
