Brickhill: Supporting Employees in the Community Drives Success

Goodyear Dunlop UK Group Managing Director, Mark Brickhill, has reinforced the company’s commitment to community projects, and has encouraged all employers to seek the benefits that come from supporting their employees in voluntary activity.

Brickhill was speaking following a garden party at Buckingham Palace in honour of the centenary of the Territorial Army which was attended by 6000 guests, including the HRH The Earl of Wessex and HRH The Princess Royal. Over four hundred TA Reservists were invited along to pay tribute to their employers by taking them to this very special event. The Goodyear Dunlop MD had been invited by John Braybrook, Wholesale Manager for the company, who returned from TA assignment in Afghanistan last year.

Schaeffler Has ‘No Sympathy’ for Continental’s Response

The Schaeffler Group has responded to Continental AG’s angry rejection of its bid with a similarly defensive statement of its own. “The Schaeffler Group cannot understand the negative reaction of Continental AG’s Executive Board and has no sympathy for the CEO’s chosen style of confrontation,” a company statement read.

Schaeffler again explicitly reiterated its commitment to Continental’s long term strategy particularly in relation to the tyre business. “Schaeffler will therefore not be dismantling Continental AG,” the statement clarified, adding that Schaeffler would maintain Continental as an independent entity, keeping the headquarters in Hanover.

MAM Software Relocating to Support Growth Plans

MAM Software is a company on the move, literally. The firm has announced it is relocating relocating its headquarters from Deepcar in Sheffield to new premises less than four miles away at Tankersley, just off J36 of the M1. The new office, comments MAM, will provide modern accommodation for the 92 employees currently based in Deepcar and will be furnished to the company’s specific requirements. The Tankersley site will incorporate a dedicated call centre for its Support Services department.

The new premises are integral in supporting MAM Software’s growth plans in the automotive and vertical markets. Managing director, Mike Jamieson, said: “MAM is committed to ensuring the move benefits both our employees and clients. These new premises are much better suited to our type of business. It will give us room for expansion and improvement, and provide a better working environment for all our staff.”

Sentaida Appoints Shannon as Credit Manager

Sentaida International, the North American marketing and sales headquarters of China’s Sentaida Group, has appointed Brian Shannon as their new Credit Manager. Shannon – who has previously held the positions of Credit Manager for TBC Wholesale Division and Director of Credit for Treadways Corporation – will be responsible for overseeing credit and collections.

After more than 12 years’ experience in the industry, Shannon has been excited by the prospects of Sentaida International, saying that the company “supplies quality products at competitive prices” and prides itself on “long term partnerships with customers.” The appointment comes in lieu of Sentaida’s expansion of operations in Los Angeles, California and Miami, in addition to the St. Louis headquarters.

BFNAT Delay Decision Over Tech Centre

The future location of 600 jobs at the Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire technical centre remains undecided after the company delayed the decision until the end of the year.

The tyre manufacturer has yet to produce an initial recommendation in order to decide whether to keep the technical centre in Akron, Ohio or to relocate the 600 roles to Nashville, Tennessee, in which BFNAT’s headquarters are currently located. The decision was initially planned for the end of May, but the recommendation will now be made by executives in Nashville and Japan in late 2008.

Gordons Tyres Now Known as Earthmover Tyres Ltd

Earthmover tyre specialist Gordons Tyres Ltd has announced a change in its company name. The company is now fully trading as Earthmover Tyres (Wakefield) Ltd. The company has also launched a new website reflecting this name change – www.earthmovertyres.com.

The company is a Michelin approved centre for all major repairs to earthmover tyres. Major repairs are undertaken at the Earthmover Tyres headquarters depot by fully certified earthmover tyre repairers to the Michelin Approved Standard for earthmover tyres.

Alldata Celebrates 70,000 Customers, Sets Sights on Future Success

Alldata held a media day event at its headquarters in Elk Grove, California, on April 3, to celebrate its latest accomplishment — 70,000 customers — and to spotlight how the company is helping automotive service professionals boost their business success.

President Jeff Lagges and other company executives discussed how Alldata is reinventing itself for a changing market, and its commitment to providing OEM repair information and business solutions to help automotive service professionals increase their competitiveness, elevate productivity and profitability, and forge stronger relationships with customers.

Lagges pointed out that one of the major components in the company’s success, and its 90 per cent customer retention rate, has been to maintain direct contact with customers, primarily through a direct salesforce. “We measure our success by our customers’ satisfaction,” he said.

Yellow Sea to Expand Capacity

Approximately £90 million is said to be earmarked for Qingdao Yellow Sea Rubber to assist it move production to a new facility. This money is to come from controlling company China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina), and the move of production from its headquarters to an industrial park will allow an increase of all-steel radial capacity to 1.8 million units per annum in 2008, and when its semi-steel radial production moves later the overall annual capacity in the facility will be 3 million units. Additional all steel and semi-steel capacity will be added, with all construction expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Michelin NA Taps New PR Agency

After a three-month review, Michelin North America has selected Hill & Knowlton as its national public relations agency for its passenger and light truck/SUV replacement tyre operations. Reports said that MNA considered 13 agencies, including incumbent Cohn & Wolfe, before settling on Hill & Knowlton.

The agency, which will work from its Los Angeles headquarters and regional offices, already handles PR for MNA’s BFGoodrich replacement passenger and light truck/SUV products. (Tire Review/Akron)

Milhaupt to Head Kumho Sales

Jim Milhaupt has been named national vice president of sales for Kumho Tire USA, succeeding Dave Hudrlik, who left the company. An eight-year veteran with Kumho, Milhaupt will oversee Kumho’s US sales efforts. He will be based at Kumho’s headquarters in Rancho Cucamonga, California. (Tire Review/Akron)

Hankook Europe Names Hee-Se Ahn VP Sales & Marketing

Hankook Tire Europe has elected Hee-Se Ahn (48) as Vice-President of Sales & Marketing for the tyre manufacturer’s European regional headquarters, located in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt/Germany. He succeeds Byeong-Jin Lee who has moved to a new management position at the group’s headquarters in Seoul/Korea. Mr Ahn’s responsibilities will include successfully integrating the company’s new 500 million euro Hungarian production plant into its future European marketing strategy.

Goodyear Appoints New Corporate Controller and CIO

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has announced the appointment of Richard Noechel as vice president and corporate controller, replacing Thomas A. Connell, who in turn was named vice president and chief information officer. Noechel, 39, had been chief financial officer of Goodyear’s South Pacific Tyre subsidiary in Australia since 2006. He began his career with Goodyear in 2004, serving as assistant controller at the company’s corporate headquarters in Akron.

Prior to joining Goodyear, Noechel was vice president and controller for The Kmart Corporation from 2001 through 2004. He also worked for DaimlerChrysler in various positions from 1997 through 2001 and for Price Waterhouse LLP from 1991 through 1997.

Martin Krämer New Lanxess CFO for China and Hong Kong

Martin Krämer, currently head of the Lanxess Group Function Treasury, is to be the specialty chemicals group’s new CFO for Greater China. Krämer, aged 41, will begin the Shanghai based position on April 1, 2008. In this function, which in future will also include responsibility for Hong Kong, Krämer will continue to report to Lanxess CFO Matthias Zachert. The successor to Krämer as head of the Group Function Treasury, effective March 1, 2008 is Christoph Koch, currently head of the Corporate Finance department within this Group Function. The present CFO in China, Marc Horn, is returning to Group headquarters in Leverkusen to take up new duties.

Lanxess Opens New Central & East Europe Headquarters

Chemical manufacturer Lanxess AG has responded to the growing popularity of Central and Eastern Europe as hubs for tyre manufacturing by establishing a new headquarters for its distribution company Lanxess Central Eastern Europe s.r.o. Located in the Slovakian capital Bratislava, the headquarters officially opened on February 15, and all business activities in Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary are now controlled from this location. The company also intends to operate branch offices in Warsaw and Budapest. Previously, Lanxess organised its operations in Central and Eastern Europe through external distribution agencies.

US City Prepping Incentives to Keep BFNAT Tech Centre

Reacting to Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire’s stated desire to upgrade its research and development facilities in the US, city, county and state officials in Ohio are working to develop an incentive package designed to keep those operations in Akron. In January BFNAT announced that it wanted a new technical centre and were considering a few options: invest millions in rehabbing its nearly century old current facility at the old Firestone world headquarters in south Akron, or build new facilities in either Akron or Nashville.
