Michelin reports that it recently entered into a long-term cooperation agreement with agricultural equipment company AGCO Corporation. The agreement, signed at AGCO’s European headquarters in Neuhausen, Switzerland, focuses upon strengthening relations in the areas of research and development, marketing and supply chain.
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe has appointed Tom Edwards as its new Export Sales Manager for North Africa, the Mediterranean and Scandinavia. Edwards, 29, moves into Cooper Tire’s sales department from the marketing sector in which he was, until earlier this month, European and EMEA Marketing Manager.
The website RusBusinessNews reports that Sibur-Russian Tyres will end the manufacture of non-military products at its Ekaterinburg Urals Tyre Plant Ltd. factory, resulting in the redundancy of two-thirds of its workforce. Demand for the cross-ply tyres produced by the factory is steadily falling, and despite considering investing in modernisation, Sibur-Russia opted not to do so has the equipment and construction work involved would have taken more than a decade to repay. The only product made by the Urals Tyre Plant still in demand is a roller for tanks.
Tire Review – Doran Manufacturing and DriverTech have reached a collaborative development agreement to integrate the Doran 360 TPMS with DriverTech’s Windows-based onboard computing and mobile communications system for Class 7-8 trucks. The companies said that integrating the tire pressure monitoring capability into the DriverTech TruckPC, tyre pressures for tractors and trailers can now be monitored in both the truck cab and at fleet headquarters in real-time. “We are excited to offer the capability to communicate tire pressure information and critical low pressure warnings to both the driver and fleet managers,” said Doran General Manager Jim Samocki. “We are proud to be working with a high-caliber company like DriverTech, to expand their capabilities into tyre pressure monitoring.”
Nokian Tyres will move its headquarters from LaVergne, Tennessee, to Colchester, Vermont, in an effort to consolidate its operations. Malcolm Scovell has been appointed as commercial director for Michelin Tyre Plc with responsibility for the UK and Republic of Ireland. He will be based at Michelin’s UK headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent. He replaces Hervé de Froment, who is transferring after four years in the role to take on a new position with Michelin in Spain. The latest appointment signifies significant change in the management of Michelin Tyre Plc as it follows the appointment of Bill Schafer 42 as commercial director of Michelin’s truck and bus operations in July. Scovell brings with him extensive industry experience after 34 years with Michelin, most recently as managing director for the replacement car tyre market for the Nordic countries, based in Stockholm.
For the second year in a row Michelin North America employees have pitched in and lent Habitat for Humanity a hand in the tyremaker’s home neighbourhood of Greenville County, South Carolina. Since the groundbreaking in May, more than 600 Michelin employees and Habitat volunteers have given nearly 5,000 hours to build the two houses in the town of Greer, not far from Michelin’s US headquarters. Michelin North America chairman and president Dick Wilkerson was on hand to present the keys to the new homeowners.
After 61 years, Goodyear’s World of Rubber museum in Akron, Ohio has finally lost its bounce. Citing a lack of attendance and the company’s move to a new headquarters building as key motivating factors, the US tyre major has announced the museum’s upcoming closure. Doors at the centre will shut for the last time on August 28.
ContiTech reports achieving a further victory in the fight against product forgeries after proving that a large Chinese manufacturer produced fake ContiTech automotive drive belts. "This is a major step in the prosecution of illicit reproduction cases, since it was the first time that we were able to determine the manufacturer directly," reported Helmut Engel, head of the ContiTech Power Transmission Group’s Automotive Aftermarket sector. "Often, only the dealers and importers are held to account, and the producers of the copies remain unknown."
A pair of HiQ franchisees, who got in the pink for Breast Cancer Care, raised £1,500 for the charity at Snetterton racing circuit. Phil Cowell and Robert Brown were on hand for the latest round of British Touring Car Championship action on August 2 and spent the day raising funds for the charity. The pair, who own six HiQ centres in the east of England under their P & R Tyres Ltd company, gave away specially made pink baseball caps in return for charitable donations and carried buckets at the track for the thousands of motorsport fans to give to.
China based nano precipitated calcium carbonate (NPCC) manufacturer ShengdaTech has announced plans to relocate its global headquarters from Shandong Province to Shanghai. Company president and CEO Xiangzhi Chen, CFO Andrew Chen, COO Anhui Guo and other executives are to be based at the new office, and Shanghai also serves as the chosen site for ShengdaTech's research and development centre. The company’s NPCC manufacturing operation will continue in Tai'an City and will utilise the old ShengdaTech head office at this location for various administrative functions.
Bill Schafer, 42, has been appointed commercial director of Michelin’s truck and bus operations in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Schafer previously spent five years as vice president of Michelin’s North American agricultural division based in Greenville, South Carolina.
Schafer brings 16 years of experience within the Michelin Group and most recently held roles including three years as European key account manager for Michelin Fleet Solutions based at the company’s worldwide headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, France, prior to which he was commercial irector of Michelin’s truck operations in Mexico and Central America.
ATS Euromaster has appointed Simon Tattersall as Head of National Truck, reporting directly to Peter Fairlie, Group Sales Director. Tattersall has worked for with parent company Michelin for 28 years, based at their headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent. In his most recent role he was Business Development Manager for Michelin Fleet Solutions and Sales Manager, responsible for the company’s original equipment sales to trailer manufacturers in the UK and Nordic countries.
Commenting on his appointment, Tattersall said: “My primary focus as Head of National Truck is to continue building on the success ATS Euromaster has enjoyed over the last two years, during which it has won major contracts with customers including Eddie Stobart, Suttons and Gist.
M.I.G. is a major rubber industry company with headquarters located in Anagni some 50 kilometres south of Rome. During its 50 years in existence the company has gained extensive knowledge and experience in the tyre retreading field. Consequently, it says that it has been able to establish an outstanding reputation for product quality and service excellence. M.I.G. manufactures and exports curing tubes, bladders and envelopes throughout the world.
The company has recently completed the building of a new state-of-the-art factory covering an area of 30,000 square metres. From here M.I.G. says that it will be able to meet the demands of all retreaders, be it for hot cure process with tube or bladder presses or, for precure plants with double envelope, envelope/tube or a rimless envelope system.
In other Vintage Tyre Supplies news, the Beaulieu based specialist comments that, in the current climate of “recycle and reuse”, the company is well aware of the need to dispose of worn out classic tyres in a responsible way. VTS reports that its tyres are always collected and processed by an ethical tyre processing company; many tyres reappear as children’s playgrounds, conveyer belts and even new car tyres.
Recently however, VTS has been able to use its old worn tyres in a different way, as part of the new “World of Top Gear” at the National Motor Museum, located just a hop, skip and a jump from Vintage Tyres’ headquarters.
