DEKRA test places Hankook e-cube on par with premium

A Hankook-commissioned fuel consumption test comparing the Korean tyre maker’s e-cube truck range with the Michelin X Energy and its own standard truck tyre range has delivered favourable results for the e-cube. The test, carried out by DEKRA’s Automobil Test Center in Klettwitz, Germany, pitted identical Scania G420 4×2’ tractor units and Schmitz Cargobull trailers against each other; these were respectively fitted with Hankook e-cube AL10, Michelin XZA 2 and Hankook AL02 on the steering axle, e-cube DL10, XDA 2+ and DL02 on the drive axle – all size 315/80 R 22 – and e-cube TL10, XTA 2+ and TH02 in size 385/65 R 22.5 on the trailer.

Bridgestone hosts Olympic-themed charity sports day

Bridgestone staff raised more than £700 for Acorns Children’s Hospice at the company’s recent Olympic-themed sports day. The fundraiser saw staff at the company offices in Leamington Spa competing in events such as rowing, cycling and archery. Local paralympian Anna Turney, who is currently being sponsored by Bridgestone, was invited to award prizes for each individual discipline, as well as an overall team winner.

Hankook-sponsored Millen masters Pike Peak in record time

The victor in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb conquered the 'Race To The Clouds' in record time – and this is good news for Hankook Tire, as the protagonist responsible for this feat was none other than Hankook-sponsored driver Rhys Millen. The New Zealander’s Hyundai Genesis Coupe – fitted with Ventus F200 racing slicks – reached the summit with an overall time of 9:46:164 to claim victory over a field of almost 200 cars and motorcyclists. Millen’s Hyundai is the same car that his professional racer father Rod Millen drove to a world record time in the Time Attack 2WD class at last year's running of the race.

Two tyre sponsors for Malaysian endurance race

The Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) is, according to the Straits Times newspaper, the biggest endurance race in Asia and the 13th MMER will take place between Aug 29-Sept 2.

Hankook sales, profits up in second quarter

Hankook Tire reports higher revenues and operating profit for the second quarter of 2012. The Korean tyre maker’s revenues rose 18.5 per cent year-on-year to KRW 1.84 trillion (£1.03 billion) in the three months to 30 June and operating profit jumped 112.1 per cent to KRW 215.5 billion (£121.15 million).

Hankook to sponsor UEFA Europa League

Hankook has confirmed its new status as an official sponsor of the UEFA Europa League. The sponsorship agreement signed between the tyre maker and UEFA Events SA covers the period from 2012 to 2015 and gives Hankook brand exposure through perimeter board advertising in the stadiums and through media backdrops during flash interviews and official UEFA press conferences. Hankook says the new deal demonstrates another milestone in its European marketing approach, through which it aims to sustainably increase brand awareness in this, the company’s largest regional market.

Hankook staff raise £6,600 through Cycle Madagascar Challenge

Two Hankook Tyre UK employees, product and pricing analyst Mike Olsen and customer service advisor Ben Thompson, have completed the Cycle Madagascar Challenge, and in doing so raised £6,600 for the international development charity, Transaid. Mike and Ben returned from Madagascar – the island off the coast of Africa, not the animated film – after completing a gruelling cycle of almost 500 kilometres across the country’s varied landscapes.

Hankook continues What Car? award sponsorship

Hankook has confirmed its return as associate sponsor for the 2013 What Car? Car of the Year Awards and continued sponsorship of the ‘Ultra Low Carbon’ award, which was won by the Kia Rio in 2012 – a car that boasts Hankook’s Kinergy Eco in size 185/65 R15 88H as an original equipment fitment.

Q4 production start for Hankook’s Indonesian factory

Upon visiting Hankook Tire’s global website, one of the first things to be seen is a positions vacant advertisement for PT. Hankook Tire Indonesia’s new factory in West Java, indicating that a start to production lies just around the corner. A senior Hankook manager has now confirmed to local media that commercial operations at the Lippo Cikarang plant will begin in the last quarter of 2012 with a workforce of around 1,200.

London to Paris charity cycle challenge

Senior executives from the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport, the Freight Transport Association, the Road Haulage Association and Transport for London have joined forces with Transaid to organise a charity bike ride from London to Paris, with the aim of raising £100,000 to support Transaid's Professional Driver Training projects in Africa.

Hankook to supply Daimler, hints at further football commitments

Germany’s Handelsblatt has reported Hankook’s “attack” on rival Continental. In an article published 22 June, the financial daily shares that the Korean tyre maker has been approved by Daimler for original equipment passenger car tyre supply, and it opines that Hankook is “increasingly proving itself an aggressive challenger to European market leader Continental.”

Hankook launches ‘Olympic’ advertising campaign

To coincide with the London Olympics, Hankook Tyre UK is launching a new outdoor advertising campaign. The ads will be positioned in key locations in central London, including Cromwell Road, North Circular Road, Whitechapel Road, York Road and the Chiswick Roundabout, and will run until mid-September – a timeframe covering the entire Olympic Games. Hankook anticipates the location of the ads will expose thousands of games visitors to its ‘Be One with It’ campaign, an advertising series the tyre maker describes as “an important pillar” of its marketing strategy.

Hankook, Michelin reps pedal for Transaid in Madagascar

A team of 25 challengers from across the UK transport and logistics industry, including participants from Hankook and Michelin, is preparing for the fundraising challenge of a lifetime, cycling more than 450km across Madagascar, in aid of international development charity Transaid. The group has set a target of raising £100,000, and is leaving for the island on Friday 15 June, with a day’s acclimatisation in the capital of Antananarivo on the Saturday before the main event begins in earnest on Sunday. Proceeds from the event will benefit vital Transaid initiatives across Africa.

Thornleigh fleet gets a Hankook makeover

Thornleigh Freight has announced it is overhauling the look of some of its vehicles, turning them into a striking Hankook branded fleet. Thornleigh Freight has worked with Hankook for over 10 years and has recently signed a new contract to store and distribute Hankook products. To cement the partnership even further Thornleigh Freight also chose to develop some Hankook branded vehicles to form part of their existing fleet.
