Hankook Tire achieves S&P sustainability gold
S&P Global has awarded two tyre makers a Gold Class rating in its Sustainability Yearbook 2022. In addition to Pirelli reaching this status, which we reported on 1 February, S&P Global has also placed Hankook Tire & Technology in the Gold Class.
Hankook Tire 2021 results
Tyre maker Hankook has released its results for the 2021 financial year. The company achieved global sales of KRW 7.142 trillion (£4.4 billion), 10.7 per cent higher than in 2020, and a year-on-year increase in operating profit of 2.2 per cent to KRW 641 billion (£395.1 million). Momentum slowed in the second half of the year as the global economy collectively tackled issues such as global supply chain disruption, semiconductor shortage and rising raw materials costs.
Hankook opens Spanish test centre at Applus+, Idiada
Hankook has announced the official opening of its newly constructed test centre on the premises of Applus+ in Idiada, Spain. All areas that previously had to be accommodated separately on the premises are now housed under one roof in the new workshop due to the constant growth in testing and development requirements over recent years.
Hankook & Company appoints CDO
Seongjin Kim is the new Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of Hankook Tire & Technology Co., Ltd. His appointment to this role takes effect immediately and as CDO, Kim takes responsibility for further accelerating the group’s digital transformation.
Big names committed to The Tire Cologne
After a four-year absence, The Tire Cologne is preparing to make a comeback in May. Continental, Falken, Hankook, Michelin and Pirelli have already signed up as exhibitors. Prospecs features Hankook tread on ‘all-season’ trainers
Hankook Tire & Technology is collaborating with Korean sportswear brand Prospecs to release a series of running shoes with enhanced grip in wet and wintry conditions. Prospecs provides this extra traction by utilising the tread pattern from the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 all-season tyre on the trainers’ soles.

Hankook Tire names new North America president
Curtis Brison is the new president of Hankook Tire North America (formerly Hankook Tire America). He succeeds Sooil Lee, who remains chief executive officer of Hankook Tire & Technology. Additionally, Hankook Tire North America has promoted Robert Williams to senior vice president of Truck, Bus and Radial (TBR) sales and Jong Jin (JJ) Park to vice-president of marketing.
Hankook showing non-pneumatic i-Flex at CES 2022
Hankook Tire & Technology is jointly showcasing its ‘i-Flex’ non-pneumatic tyre with Hyundai Motor Company at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, which begins today in Las Vegas. The tyre will appear in Hyundai’s new Plug & Drive (PnD) Module, a modular platform based on robotics technology that enables mobility of traditionally inanimate things. Hankook says its i-Flex maximises the “characteristics and functions of the PnD module.”
Kumho to exclusively supply TCR Europe championship
Following the WSC Group’s announcement that Kumho Tire has developed a bespoke tyre for TCR competition, TCR Europe has confirmed its intention to switch its exclusive tyre supply from Hankook to Kumho for the 2022 season. WSC approved the Kumho tyre following a successful evaluation test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on the day after the final event of the 2021 TCR Europe season.
New year, new chairman: Cho Hyun-bum takes the reins at Hankook & Company
Cho Hyun-bum has been officially inaugurated as chairman of Hankook & Company, holding firm for Hankook Tire & Technology. Hyun-bum is the younger son of former chairman Cho Yang-rai, who becomes the company’s honorary chairman.
Hankook participating in Project TREE
Project TREE is the first attempt to establish natural rubber traceability using blockchain, and the UK is the first market where consumers can buy tyres containing verifiable sustainable rubber. Following the launch of traceable Pirelli tyres earlier this month, Hankook Tire & Technology is now distributing tyres manufactured through the project.
Hankook Tire secures container stability through Hapag-Lloyd deal
Ocean freight is in the midst of a predicament. The global shortage of shipping containers, primarily caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to continued port congestion and freight prices at all-time highs. Hankook Tire & Technology has worked with Hapag-Lloyd AG, the world’s fifth largest liner shipping company, for more than 20 years and now aims to strengthen its logistics capabilities through a new partnership.
Hankook inaugurates Nürburgring Workshop
For many petrolheads, a lap of the Nürburgring is akin to a pilgrimage, and the circuit in Germany’s Eifel region is also a favourite site for performance car developers. Hankook Tire now has a presence in the neighbourhood, too. During a small ceremony held yesterday, the tyre maker officially opened the Nürburgring Workshop, a new branch office of its Hankook Europe Technical Centre (ETC).
