Giti Tire has introduced nine new sizes to the GT Radial Champiro FE1 range. Positioned as an all-round premium passenger car tyre for the performance C and D vehicle segments (including such bestsellers as the Volkswagen Golf, Peugeot 308 and Kia C’eed) the tyre now has more than 95 per cent coverage of its target sector. Launched in 2014, Giti expects the tyre to become one of its biggest sellers.
Giti van tyre, the GT Radial Maxmiler Pro has shown good wear credentials after a performance review conducted for Leeds City Council. Four 225/65R16C tyres were fitted to a Renault Master mini-bus on February 16 2014, and during a December 2 2014 inspection, between which dates the vehicle had covered 29,456 miles, the tread depths were measured. The near side front read 5/5/6mm, while the off side front, near side rear and off side rear equalled 6/6/6mm.
Giti Tire will launch its latest GT Radial next generation drive axle tyre at CV Show 2015. Making its debut at stand 4G40, the GDR638 is a high-performance drive axle tyre designed specifically for medium-sized trucks and buses. The tyre will be available in April in sizes 245/70R17.5 and 235/75R17.5, with seven further 17.5” and 19.5” sizes due before the end of the year.
At the end of 2014 Tyres & Accessories described the UK passenger car tyre market as being very slightly down in terms of volume despite the fact that many had expected growth (see “Everything pointed to UK tyre market growth in 2014”, Tyres & Accessories December 2014). Giti’s analysis puts the market nominally up – that is less than 0.1 per cent – so the end result is the same, no growth. Following his appointment as Giti international director – marketing and sales, Tyres & Accessories recently caught up with Richard Lyons at the company’s UK headquarters in Cheshire and asked what’s behind the promotion. Answering, Lyons explained by putting the announcement in the context of “continual development” at Giti. Stephan Giesecke has been appointed Giti Tire’s first dedicated truck and bus marketing manager for the GT Radial brand in the D-A-CH region. The tyre maker has employed Giesecke in this German, Austrian and Swiss market role to assist its aims of further boosting the brand’s profile and augmenting sales.
Giti Tire (USA) has raised its US prices by 9.5 per cent in response to the countervailing duties introduced by the country’s government. The increases affect all passenger and light truck tyres (excluding ST tyres) produced by Giti in China, and are effective from 1 January 2015. US industry journal Tire Review revealed the anticipated price hike had been implemented as a result of the 11.74 per cent adjusted countervailing duties imposed by the US Department of Commerce on Giti Tire Fujian Co Ltd. Giti said it was still “committed” to the US market.
Giti Tire has promoted Ashleigh Warren to marketing manager UK – passenger car and light truck. The company stated that Warren has “excelled in the company’s truck and bus division,” since her appointment in May 2012. She will work closely with distributors on retail, product and media strategies across the manufacturer’s brands – GT Radial, Primewell and Runway – as the company aims to augment its independent dealer network and increase prominence of its expanding tyre portfolios.

Giti Tire expresses confidence that its new Champiro FE1 will become one of the biggest sellers within its GT Radial brand portfolio. The new range was officially unveiled at the Reifen 2014 show in May, and the manufacturer has now provided some further details on the line-up. It says the Champiro FE1 is available in Europe from October 2014 onwards in 18 sizes for 15 to 17-inch rim diameters and in T to W speed ratings.
Giti Tire and exclusive distributor Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS) have completed a programme of 12 customer roadshows throughout the UK. Showcasing GT Radial Performance Centres (GTPC), the events, which took place between August to October, were attended by more than 80 new and existing GTPC partners, the manufacturer states.
It’s been a year since Tyres & Accessories first met the recently-appointed head of Giti Tire’s new R&D Centre Europe. At the time, R&D director Stefan Fischer shared the tyre maker’s plans and showed off the still largely-empty premises where specialists would soon be hard at work. A lot has changed in 12 months: Upon returning to the Hannover, Germany-based facility, we saw it was well and truly up and running and, in the important area of original equipment development, even further established than originally planned.
Early next month Euro Bus Expo 2014 is coming to the NEC Birmingham, and GT Radial will attend the show as an exhibitor for the first time. A range of products aimed at the passenger transport segment will be on display at the GT Radial stand, with the GSR225 Combi Road and GAU861 all-position urban city-bus tyres heading a comprehensive portfolio.
Of the 18 tyres GT Radial is presenting at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show, 11 are on display for the first time, including the recently-launched GSW226 winter steer axle and GTL925 low platform trailer pattern tyres.
