When Tyres & Accessories visited Giti Tire’s new European Research and Development Centre last October, it learnt that the facility near Hannover, Germany was one of two new centres the tyre maker was setting up. The other was in the United States. Now, after almost a year in operation, Giti Tire has provided an update on what it calls the Giti Tire R&D Center for North America, an operation located in Uniontown, Ohio, just south of ‘tyre town’ Akron.
Giti Tire is currently looking for a new general manager for the DACH market – Germany, Austria and Switzerland – following the departure of Rainer Harter. The company’s managing director for Europe, Richard Lyons, told Tyres & Accessories that Harter recently “left of his own accord in order to pursue new opportunities.” Harter joined Giti Tire in summer 2013 and held the position of managing director at Giti Tire Deutschland GmbH. Lyons commented that the former Michelin manager “had done a very good job.”
Raising more than £1,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, GT Radial’s Le Mans 24 Hour Cycle Race team pedalled 169 laps of the 4,185m Circuit Bugatti. The team, comprising Brian McDermott, managing director UK for Giti Tire; Ellis Hadley, senior test engineer; Martin Gibson, senior test engineer; and Bertrand Saint-Supery, OEM EU technical director, covered a total of 707,265m to finish 340th out of 458.
Giti Tire has released product details for the two latest additions into its expanding GT Radial truck and bus portfolio – the GSW226 high traction steer axle and GTL925 low platform trailer pattern tyres.
Igino Schiavi has been appointed by Giti Tire as market analyst for Italy, with responsibility for passenger car and light truck (PCR) and truck and bus (TBR) positioning strategies. His main role will be to collect and analyse market data to benchmark the company’s GT Radial, Primewell and Runway tyre brands on both price and performance to ensure best product placement.
Top ten tyre manufacturer, Giti Tire has confirmed its first GT Radial original equipment homologation fitments for the European passenger car and light truck market. Both Renault Nissan and PSA Peugeot Citroen will fit the manufacturer’s tyres on European models, with the latter’s Peugeot Partner and Citroen Berlingo models running on GT Radial in Western European markets.

GT Radial’s Hall 3 stand at Reifen 2014 hosted the launch of two new products alongside the already announced GSR225 Combi Road multi-use tyre. The GTL925 low platform trailer tyre and the GSW226 steer axle winter tyre are both being shown for the first time at Europe’s largest tyre fair.
GT Radial has launched its new passenger car tyre for the mass market, the Champiro FE1. Angelo Giannangeli, marketing director – Europe for passenger car and light truck said that the tyre’s launch “is a huge statement of intent”. It will be available on European markets between September and October.
GT Radial’s latest commercial tyre all-rounder will receive its European show debut at Reifen 2014, with two new products to be unveiled. The GSR225 Combi Road multi-usage tyre has specially developed tread and base compounds to improve mileage and a wider tread pattern to deliver improved handling and extra resistance to tearing and curbing, making it appropriate for a wide variety of regional and long-haul vehicles. GT Radial products will be exhibited on Hall 3, stand B16.
Following the news of two new commercial vehicle tyre releases and another European show debut at Reifen 2014, GT Radial has announced that it will complete its new product line-up with a van and a car tyre too. Designed for the growing heavy duty, high speed van market, GT Radial will officially launch the Maxmiler Pro in Essen while revealing their new PCR tyre, designed for “all-round, premium comfort”.
Giti Tire has appointed Lorna Craig as its retail network development manager. The position has been created with a brief to develop further the GT Radial Performance Centre (GTPC) programme in the UK. Craig, formerly a brand manager with GT Radial distributor Micheldever, will work in partnership with the wholesaler to achieve this goal.
Giti Tire has appointed Angelo Giannangeli it new marketing director Europe for the PCR and light truck segment. In this role, Giannangeli will be responsible for marketing initiatives and e-commerce for GT Radial, Primewell and Runway brand passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyres in Europe; the company aims to achieve a PCR segment market share of between five and ten per cent in key markets.
Having made its debut at Coach & Bus Live 2013 in support of its all-position urban city-bus tyre, the GAU861, and with recent success in the closely linked truck market, GT Radial has ambitions to increase its share in the passenger transportation side of the commercial vehicle tyre segment. Tony McHugh, sales and marketing director at Giti Tire UK, and marketing director – Europe, Peter Foulkes told Tyrepress that the company’s “broad coach and bus portfolio”, including 22.5” and 17.5” fitments, is now well placed to pursue increasing numbers of potential fleet customers, while the brand has existing deals within the sector in Germany.
