There appears to be a collapse in the number of British towns supporting World Car Free Day on 22 September – the annual event that encourages motorists in over 1,000 towns around the globe to leave their cars at home in favour of bicycles, trains and buses. The lack of support can be blamed on slashed budgets for local government and dwindling interest in the environment, according to the Environmental Transport Association (ETA); the organisation that first coordinated the event in Britain.
"The Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) decision to look into petrol and diesel prices is a significant step forward for the Petrol Retailers' Association’s (PRA) campaign for a market study into anti-competitive pricing in the UK fuel market" said Brian Madderson, PRA Chairman.
The Forbes ‘Asia’s Fab 50’ ranks the “best of Asia Pacific’s biggest listed companies,” and this year’s list has been described by the business magazine as a “roll call of outfits that have managed to thrive amid decelerating growth in Asia and all but nonexistent growth in their US and European markets.” For 2012, Forbes has added Cheng Shin Rubber Ind., manufacturer of the Maxxis tyre brand, to the list. At present Maxxis is the only tyre brand represented in the Fab 50 table.

Brake, the road safety charity, takes a diametrically opposed view to the ABD and is calling for government and local authorities to work towards 20mph being the norm in built-up areas, to help deliver a post-2012 legacy of active, healthy communities.
Earlier this week, some newspapers reported 20mph limits are 'not working' on the basis that casualties across all 20mph roads increased during 2010-11. rake is pointing out that the increase does not demonstrate heightened risks in 20mph limits, but is likely to result from 20mph limits becoming much more widespread, as many city, county and borough councils implement them across built up areas.

If an article in one South African newspaper is correct, the concept behind the country’s new tyre recycling scheme was stolen from another organisation.
