Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company received two prestigious North American supplier awards for its performance in environmental sustainability and environmental stewardship by Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA).
SIA is an Indiana-based manufacturer of the Subaru Outback, Legacy and Impreza line of vehicles. Goodyear supplies original equipment tyres to the popular Subaru Legacy model.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has priced its offering of $900 million aggregate principal amount of 10-year senior notes. The notes will be senior unsecured obligations of the company. They will be offered to the public at a price of 100 per cent of the principal amount and will bear interest at a rate of 5.0 per cent per annum. Goodyear expects the offering to close on 13 May 2016, subject to customary closing conditions.
The Goodyear truck tyre website for customers in the EMEA region – Europe, the Middle East and Africa – has been re-launched and is now available in a range of local languages. The updated truck.goodyear.eu site provides information on new and retreaded tyres, the Europe-wide TruckForce service network, the internet-based FleetOnlineSolutions management programme and the location of truck tyre dealers throughout the region.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber has released its results for the first three months of 2016. During the first quarter of the current financial year, the company achieved higher sales volumes compared with the same period a year earlier, however sales revenues were slightly lower. Operating income and margin was higher, while a number of one-off occurrences impacted upon net income.
Goodyear has signed a deal with SJ Bargh, a leading logistics provider specialising in milk and general haulage, to fit and supply its more than 150 vehicles with Goodyear Kmax tyres and the Goodyear Omnitrac range. SJ Bargh has taken a Price per Kilometre (PPK) contract with Goodyear, allowing the business to manage its tyre investment over time.
Bridgestone and MRF have tied for first place in JD Power’s latest India Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Index (TCSI) Study. However, while they both ranked first in overall customer satisfaction, scoring 881. Bridgestone performed well in terms of ride (883) and MRF performed particularly well in appearance (884). Apollo came third, with JK Tyre fourth and Goodyear in fifth.
It’s safe to assume a close technological resemblance between blood relatives the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and Dunlop SportMaxx RT2, even if the first of these is more oriented towards driving safety criteria and the second towards sporting characteristics. Goodyear will supply tyres and fleet management services to Cumbria based haulage firm, Dent Logistics, having signed a new five-year agreement. Greenergy Flexigrid, the fuel haulage service company within the Greenergy Group, has signed a new deal with Goodyear that will see the company fit its 100-plus vehicles with the tyre supplier’s Fuelmax commercial tyre. The tyre has been tested extensively by several European fleets since its 2014 launch. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has refinanced its US$2 billion asset-based revolving credit facility. The company has extended the maturity by five years to 2021 and reduced the interest rate for loans under the facility by 25 basis points to LIBOR plus 125 basis points.
The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 has been accredited with OE fitments on the Mercedes- Benz E-Class. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 will be fitted in a range of sizes from 17 to 20 inch rims, section width ranging from 225 to 275, and aspect ratio spanning from 30 to 55. All tyres will be marked ‘MO Extended’ indicating tyres built by Goodyear for Mercedes-Benz as well as providing Goodyear’s Run on Flat technology in all fitments.
Apollo Tyres has appointed Steven Smidlein as the senior vice president for North America. This new role will be based in the firm’s New Jersey office and will see Smidlein reporting to Neeraj Kanwar, vice chairman and managing director, Apollo Tyres Ltd. An OE specialist, with previous experience at Goodyear, Steven Smidlein has spent most of his career working in various executive roles for car makers such as Chrysler, Honda and Accura in the US. According to the Apollo, Smidlein’s latest role sees him take responsibility for ”building the brand and sales in North America for both, Apollo and Vredestein”.
Goodyear, together with the Luxembourg government and IEE, have announced plans to develop a new Automotive Campus dedicated to innovation. The Luxembourg Automotive Campus research and development area is intended to provide state of the art facilities to companies involved in technological innovation for the automotive sector. The tyre manufacturer also announced that part of its partnership with the Automotive Campus project means moving all its local non-manufacturing personnel onto the new site.
Goodyear’s latest Ultra High Performance (UHP) tyre offers performance that is a large step ahead of its premium competitors, company representatives explained at the online launch of the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 today (23 March 2016).
According to company representatives, who base their claims on extensive testing with TUV Sud and Dekra in addition to in-house research and development, the new tyre outperforms not only its predecessor (the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2), but also the latest comparable tyres produced by Bridgestone, Continental and Michelin in terms of wet braking, dry braking and mileage.
Goodyear has done it again. For the last few years of exhibiting at the Geneva Motor Show, the company has been taking the idea of concept tyres more seriously than most (think of “battery charging, shape shifting tyres” last year and an SUV concept plus “chip in tyre” technology the year before. The goal is clearly to challenge received wisdom and raise questions about the future of tyres – taking a thought leadership role in the markets, but especially with OEMs. This year Goodyear put its Eagle 360 centre-stage in Geneva. Of course the spherical tyre is striking for its shape and the suggestion that it will move the vehicle of the future with a built maglev propulsion system, but what is perhaps even more interesting for the tyre industry is the questions this product raises about future tyre manufacturing, distribution and retail business models.
