Goodyear has shared the results of recent evaluations carried out on its behalf by testing body TÜV SÜD Product Service. The tyre maker comments that these results show that, compared with the average performance of four premium segment competitor tyres, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 “excels in rain and snow.”
Goodyear’s Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 all-season tyre has won German magazine Auto Bild’s latest tyre test. According to the magazine, the tyre demonstrated the best driving performance in all weather conditions, especially in wet and snow conditions.
Goodyear Dunlop’s twin premium brands have proven their winter performance in recent tyre tests conducted by GTÜ/ACE, ADAC/TCS and ÖAMTC. In all three tests, Dunlop’s Winter Sport 5 (SUV) and Goodyear’s UltraGrip Performance Gen-1 took first and second place respectively.
Earlier in the year, Tyres & Accessories visited the Goodyear Innovation Center Luxembourg, where the manufacturer focused on the current SUV and 4×4 segment. Growth in sales of these vehicles has been robust for a considerable period; Goodyear representatives cited IHS Automotive EMEA region figures that suggest sales of new SUVs are expected to exceed 6 million units in 2017, up from fewer than 4 million five years ago, with further growth projected to produce regional sales at 8 million new SUVs in 2022. The SUV/4×4 tyre market is, of course, following suit: in Europe (including Turkey), ETRMA Europool data projects sales of 18 million in 2017.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has been selected as one of the Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) Superior Suppliers for 2017. The award recognises military industry partners who demonstrate exceptional performance supporting DLA, America’s combat logistics support agency, and deliver high quality products to the US military and its contracted agencies.
The Boeing Company has certified The Goodyear aviation tyres for its 777X airplane. With this designation, the Goodyear Flight Radial becomes the first product to receive Boeing system part certification for the 777X.
Goodyear has agreed to acquire Ventech Systems GmbH, a leader in automated tyre inspection technology, from Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH. The company was founded in 2006 and offers a fully-automated tyre inspection system that checks tyre pressure, tread depth and vehicle weight for buses, trucks, cars and other vehicles. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter. The business and technology will be integrated into the company’s Goodyear Proactive Solutions business.
Goodyear’s Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure 265/65 R17 claimed first place in an all-terrain tyre test conducted by DriveOut Magazine. Of the seven tested tyres, including such names as General and BFGoodrich, Goodyear’s new on/off road tyre ranked highest with an overall result of 97,46 per cent. The manufacturer stated that the test win was “testimony to Goodyear’s continuous innovation and long heritage in the 4×4 category.”
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has appointed Mike Dwyer as chief marketing officer and Mike Dauberman as chief digital officer in its North America consumer business. Both appointments are effective immediately; both will report to Scott Rogers, who was recently named president, North America consumer.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has announced plans to build a new highly automated facility in Luxembourg. The company is investing $77 million in the facility, which will produce approximately 500,000 tyres annually and create approximately 70 new, full-time positions.
Goodyear announced that it is equipping Tesloop, a city-to-city mobility service that exclusively uses Tesla electric vehicles, with wireless sensors in its tyres to improve overall tyre management and maximise uptime for its growing fleet.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is using soubean-oil based rubber in the development of tyre products in conjunction with the United Soybean Board (USB). The USB is a group of farmer-directors who oversee the investments of a checkoff programme on behalf of all US soybean farmers. The USB provided some funding support for the development of Goodyear’s soybean oil application in tyres.
