Translogik Signs Exclusive Tyre RFID Deal With Qingdao Mesnac

Transense has announced that its sensor sales division, Translogik RFID Limited, has signed an exclusive global distribution agreement (excluding China) with Qingdao Mesnac Co. Ltd. for its range of RFID products. The tag has been developed to be embedded within the tyre during the manufacturing process, where it will last the lifetime of the tyre, or alternatively in a patch which attaches to the tyre wall, as an aftermarket solution.

McConechy’s and Goodyear Assist Stranded Lady

Goodyear and tyre & exhaust experts McConechy's have presented Kay Ure, the lady separated from her husband for 31 days when she left her remote Highland home to pick up Christmas dinner, with a set of all weather tyres to keep her moving and hopefully avoid a repeat of her arduous ordeal.

Mrs Ure's 4×4 has now been supplied and fitted with a set of specially imported Goodyear Wrangler HP all weather tyres from Germany which would normally cost around £750. The tyre's all-weather tread means they are equally effective in both winter and summer. The tyres were fitted by McConechy's staff members who made the 200 mile treacherous round trip from their garage base in Dingwall to meet Mrs Ure.

Goodyear Eagle Rubber Chosen for 2011 Mustang

Goodyear has announced that customers choosing Optional Performance Package on the recently unveiled 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will receive its Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 UHP tyres as standard fitment. The tyre, tested on some of the most renowned road courses in North America, appears on the new Mustang this year in sizes P265/40ZR19 and P285/35ZR20.

Goodyear India Rises to Limit in Mumbai Trading

Goodyear India Ltd. rose 20 per cent – its daily limit – in Mumbai trading after the company said its parent offered to acquire all outstanding shares for 245 rupees apiece, reports Tire Review. As many as 32,039 equity shares changed hands so far, as compared to a two-week average of 8,569 shares.

Newest Eagle Flying With Newest Vette

Goodyear’s newest ultra-high performance tyre, the Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 has won OE fitment for the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, reports Tire Review. The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is “street-refined, but track-capable,” according to Bob Toth, Goodyear’s director of new products.

ITV Increases Dunlop British Touring Cars Coverage

ITV will increase its coverage of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship to over 120 hours this year. The Championship’s title sponsor this time around changes from HiQ to Dunlop, as Goodyear Dunlop continues to publicise the motorsport capabilities of the brand, which also supplies the BTCC. The move by ITV will therefore please Dunlop, which will be getting an increased opportunity for brand exposure direct to motorsport fans’ living rooms.

Goodyear Goes Outside to Get NAT President

Curt Andersson has been named president of Goodyear’s North American Tire unit, a position that has been “open” since current NAT president Rich Kramer was promoted to COO of the global company last year. Andersson, 48, comes to Goodyear from Crouse-Hinds of Syracuse, New York, were he served as president of the Cooper Industries unit. Prior to Crouse-Hinds, Andersson was senior vice president of industrial integration for The Timken Co. in Canton, Ohio, and held management posts with General Electric.

Davian Enterprises Buys Wyko Tire Technology

At the beginning of January 2010 Davian Enterprises LLC, a newly founded company, acquired Wyko Tire Technology. Wyko Tire Technology had previously been owned by Eriks NV, a Dutch company, and is based in the Dudley, UK, with further manufacturing facilities located in Greenback, Tennessee. Terms of the purchase have not been released.

Goodyear Announces Exchange Offer

On February 2 Goodyear Tire & Rubber commenced an offer to exchange any and all of its US$650 million in aggregate principal amount of 7.857 per cent notes due in 2011 (“old notes”) for a new series of 8.75% notes due in 2020 (“new notes”). Concurrent with the exchange offer, Goodyear is soliciting consents from the holders of the old notes to amend the terms of the indenture that governs the old notes. The proposed amendments, if adopted, would delete many of the restrictive covenants and certain events of default in the indenture governing the old notes.

Bridgestone Americas Launches Newest Blizzak

Bridgestone Americas used the snowy mountains of Steamboat Springs, Colorado as the back drop for the official launch of its latest Blizzak winter tyre – the WS70. Invited tyre and enthusiast media and dozens of key dealers attended the week-long launch event, which featured a competitive ride-and-drive at the Bridgestone Winter Driving School there.

Goodyear Extends Optitrac DT800 Size Range

Goodyear has announced a significant increase in the number of sizes in its Optitrac DT800 range of narrow row crop tyres. The newly introduced OPTITRAC DT800 sizes cover 34 to 54-inch rim dimensions and are specifically developed for tractors working on row crop applications, on spraying equipment and in any other application where narrow tyres are required. The Optitrac DT800 also has a premium tread depth to allow excellent traction and a high number of working hours. In addition the range is rated to carry the same load at 40 & 50 Km/h.

Goodyear Assessing Impact of Venezuelan Currency Devaluation

On January 8, the Venezuelan government announced the devaluation of its currency, the bolivar fuerte, and the establishment of a two-tier exchange structure. This has seen the official exchange rate against the US dollar slide from 2.15 bolivar fuerte per dollar to 4.30, except in the case of essential goods, for which the rate is 2.60. This significant currency change has impacted tyre makers active in the South American country; Goodyear Tire & Rubber reports it expects a first-quarter 2010 charge of about $150 million (62 cents a share) in connection with the devaluation.

Titan Tire to Raise Prices in March

Titan Tire Corporation, a subsidiary of Titan International, has announced price increases for its Titan branded OTR, agricultural and construction tyres, and Titan manufactured Goodyear branded agricultural tyres. These price rises will take effect March 1, 2010, and will in most cases incorporate an increase of up to six per cent. Titan comments, however, that “certain tyre prices may rise in excess of six per cent due to realignment and positioning of the product.”
