Goodyear Dunlop opens Nürburgring tyre test centre

On September 22, Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany officially inaugurated its tyre test centre in Meuspath, near the world-famous Nürburgring racetrack. Upon announcing the centre’s opening, Goodyear Dunlop said the tyre test facility is an important institution both for the ongoing further development of its products and for training and education purposes. The 600 square metre site contains a range of equipment, including a complete tyre mounting workshop and hydraulic lifts, and will employ up to 15 test personnel during peak periods. The centre’s close proximity to the Nürburgring circuit’s Nordschleife track also counts as a major asset for Goodyear Dunlop.

Brian McDermott to head GITI Tire UK

GITI Tire UK has added five staff members to its number after a summer of interviewing and appointing personnel. Following Richard Lyons’ promotion to the new role of European general manager in May former Pirelli man Brian McDermott has become general manager GITI Tire UK effective 1 November.

The Slovenian Press Agency reports that Goodyear Dunlop Sava Tires is to invest 6 million euros in the production of retreaded truck and bus tyres in Slovenia.

GITI Tire (UK) adds regional sales manager to truck tyre team

Steve McDonald has joined GITI Tire (UK) Ltd. as regional sales manager. McDonald started his career in the tyre business in 2003 as sales manager for Cooper Avon Motorcycle tyres before joining Goodyear Dunlop in 2008 as business development manager, managing the North of England and Scotland. Prior to this, he held several key roles as an electrical engineer within the electrical industry.

Goodyear blimp back in UK skies for evaluation purposes

Two months after the crash in Germany involving one of a pair of blimps leased to Goodyear and the subsequent termination of the company's blimp-related tyre safety campaign, the remaining craft has returned to UK skies. According to Goodyear Dunlop pr support manager Kate Rock, the Lightship Group-owned blimp has returned from a trip to Spain and is currently in the UK participating in a series of flights to evaluate filming locations for future tours. Goodyear Dunlop is not actively promoting the blimp in the UK at the moment, Rock added.

Goodyear OE for Mercedes-Benz CLS

Mercedes-Benz has selected the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 as an original equipment fitment for its new CLS. The Goodyear tyre, which was launched earlier this year, will be fitted on the four-door performance coupé in size 255/40R18. This newly-announced OE fitment, Goodyear Dunlop notes, is one of 30 original equipment deals involving the tyre.

Goodyear to announce 2Q 2011 financial results

Goodyear’s Richard J. Kramer, chairman and chief executive officer, and Darren R. Wells, executive vice president and chief financial officer will participate in an investor conference call following the company’s second quarter 2011 financial results report. The report will be delivered before markets open on Thursday, 28 July, with the call following at 10:00 EST (15:00 GMT). The financial information will be posted on Goodyear’s investor relations website at around 9:45 EST. Goodyear also says that the call can be accessed on the website or via telephone by calling (706) 643-2869 before 9:55 on July 28. Kama establishes ‘Tyre & Service’ presence in Czech Republic

Russia’s Kama Trading House began building up its ‘Tyre & Service’ branded service centre network in 2010. Starting in Russia, the distributor of the Kama tyre brand (which is manufactured by JSC Nizhnekamskshina) expanded its operations into Kazakhstan and the Ukraine earlier this year. The company now announces it has ‘gone international’ with the opening of its first service centre in Eastern Europe. Together with tyre importer and re-exporter Czech Style Ltd., in June Kama established a presence in Zlin, Czech Republic – its first outside of the former USSR. Kama’s ‘Tyre & Service’ centre is located in the Zlin outlet of the ‘Czech Style’ service network, which incidentally belongs to Goodyear Dunlop’s Premio network.

Dunlop ‘race to road’ highlighted in latest ad campaign

Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK says it is delighted to announce further investment in the Dunlop brand through a new television advertising campaign. Set to run across July, the Dunlop advert will appear on a number of channels, including Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky 1 and Sky Sports, thereby giving the brand exposure to relevant target audiences.

Sava takes on Goodyear Dunlop name

As of July 1, Slovenia’s Sava Tires will be known as Goodyear Dunlop Sava Tires. This name change was announced by Sava Tires management at a press conference on June 28; the reason given for adopting the new name was that it will bring the Sava operation’s company name in line with the other Goodyear Dunlop Tires Europe companies. Furthermore, it is expected the new name will give the company greater visibility and strengthen its market position.

Transense AGM reports “huge progress”

Transense, the saw-wave RFID company that has developed the Translogik range of TPMS and related technologies, has made “huge progress” in the last three years. That’s the view of the firm’s board which released an AGM statement on 29 June lauded the businesses improvements. “Transense is now in a position to leverage its technological expertise and a much broader range of technical projects are now underway. In fact, there are more live development projects now than at any time in the company's history, such that the medium to long term future looks promising,” the statement explained.

Goodyear blimp crashes in Germany, killing pilot

A Goodyear blimp crashed in Reichelisheim, near Frankfurt on Sunday evening, killing the Australian pilot who had previously helped his three passengers to safety. The blimp, which was operated by Lightship Europe Ltd and leased by Goodyear, reportedly caught fire during a flight organised for journalists to take pictures of the state of Hessen. Goodyear Dunlop Germany expressed its sadness and sympathy for the family of the pilot. Aviation authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Goodyear Dunlop orders Transense equipment for FOS

Transense has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Translogik Limited recently took a further order for “a number” of Truck Tyre Inspection Kits from Goodyear Dunlop for its FOS (Fleet Online Solution) Mobile programme. This relationship began 18 months ago when Goodyear Dunlop began integrating the Translogik tyre inspection probe to work with its FOS system.

Goodyear Dunlop names new German plant managers

A new plant manager has taken charge of Goodyear Dunlop’s factory in Philippsburg, Germany. As of May 1, Klaus Happ has taken over the role from Bruno Kihm, who is now plant manager of the company’s Riesa passenger car tyre factory in the country’s east. Kihm in turn has replaced Dr. Christian Paech, who retired on May 1 after a career with the tyre maker spanning 33 years.

Goodyear Dunlop renews fleet with Mercedes-Benz vans

Goodyear Dunlop has updated its fleet with 20 new Mercedes-Benz vans. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313CDIs were supplied by Birmingham dealer Midlands Truck & Van and work for TruckForce, Goodyear Dunlop’s dedicated mobile truck tyre and breakdown service. They are based across TruckForce’s 15 operating centres, which act as hubs for some 100 satellite depots across England and Wales, and used by technicians who repair, replace and service customers’ tyres at their premises or at the roadside.
