Michelin has introduced a new size in its TB5 range of road legal race tyres aimed at young classics. The 17/58-14 or 185/60VR14 is suitable for Peugeot 205GTi, VW Golf GTi, Toyota Corolla Gti, Alfa Romeo Alfasud Ti and Ford Escort XR3i. Vintage Tyres, which distributes the Michelin classic line-up, says the new TB5 fitment “will offer the ultimate in performance for both track and road on these cars.”
Tarox F2000 brake discs have been made available to the Golf GTi Championship, a staple on the MSVR calendar. Competitors can choose to run an OEM style ‘smooth’ disc, or benefit from the improved cooling and pad-facing ability of the Tarox F2000 control option; the choice is left up to the teams. For 2013, competitors can also spec up to the larger 256mm set-up from the later GTi models. A combination, when fitted with a suitably aggressive pad and F2000 disc, that should see lap times falling amongst the quicker cars.
Hankook is introducing its Hankook Masters Programme in the UK with the recent launch of Mr Tyre in Leicester. According to the company, the Hankook Masters Programme has been designed to create a consistent retail expression across all shop formats to provide a unified brand experience to consumers. Hankook Tyre UK has been working in partnership with independent retail customers to identify depots situated in prime locations across the UK who stock and actively promote the Hankook brand. The Hankook Masters Programme is set to continue to expand into the New Year with plans to complete in excess of 100 new shops during the next three years across the UK.
Bridgestone Motorsport has held its inaugural Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where MotoGP’s Indianapolis Grand Prix takes place this weekend. Four golfing teams led by NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Colin Edwards, Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Andrea Dovizioso, CAME IodaRacing project’s Danilo Petrucci and James Ellison from Paul Bird Motorsport, all headed out to the driving range and then onto the course for a three-hole golfing contest.

Online tyre retailer Delticom has secured exclusive distribution rights in a number of European markets, including the UK, for the Anlas range of two-wheeler tyres. The Turkish tyre maker produces tyres for bicycles, mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, golf carts, ATV and agricultural vehicles; the initial range distributed by Delticom includes three products for scooters and mopeds, the M+S marked MB-458 Wintergrip scooter tyre, the Trials scooter cross tyre and the NR-SP WW whitewall tyre for urban retro scooters.
The Royal Automobile Club will host its first Charity Cup Golf Competition to raise money for BEN at Woodcote Park on Tuesday 24 April. The Club will donate all funds raised from the event to BEN, the UK's only charity for those who work in the automotive and related industries, as well as their dependents; and the Henry Surtees Foundation.
Toyo Tires has supported a Golf Day organised by Mike Craddock, director of Malvern Tyres. The Captain’s Charity Day, held at the Harpenden Golf Club where Craddock is the captain, raised money for MacMillan Cancer Support, with the collected funds to be spent in the county of Hertford. Amongst the many fundraising activities was an auction for which Toyo donated a set of tyres to the value of £500. The evening event raised a total of £3,500.
Wolfrace has announced the release of Nitework alloy wheels for small and compact vehicles, a range the company says is to be the first of several new styles to be launched in the Wolfrace Eurosport portfolio. The company celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2011, and says that the Nitework is to continue in the footsteps of previous Wolfrace products, which have aimed to provide highly desirable designs, such as the original Slot Mag, the Voodoo and the Matrix.
Garage equipment specialists Trade Garage Equipment Limited recently held the organisation's first annual Golf Day, at the superbly appointed Lingdale Golf Club, close to TGE's headquarters at Shepshed. The event was hosted by TGE Chairman Keith Fairlie and it was held in order to celebrate a successful year's business and say "thank you" to the company's leading suppliers. These include such well-known names as Rotary Lift, SPX, Maha, Hofmann Megaplan, Alentec Orion, amongst many others.
Hankook Tyre UK recently (16th September) hosted its second annual Golf Classic Day at the Hellidon Lakes Golf & Country Club, near Northampton. As the name suggests, water features strongly in the layout of the course and it proved a stern test for the 64 golfers, made up of tyre retailers and fleet managers. Joining the guests were Matt Cornwell and James Elliott, two first team players from Northampton Saints Rugby Club, sponsored by Hankook and currently riding high at the top of the Aviva Premiership.
In the US, TIA has announced that registration has opened for its 2011 OTR Tire Conference, set for 16-19 February at the Doral Resort in Miami. Tyres may be conscripted into the effort to contain the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. BP chief operating officer Doug Suttles indicates that scrap tyres and golf balls could be inserted into the oil well’s faulty blowout preventer to stop the flow of some 5,000 barrels of oil into the water each day. "We have some pipe work on the blowout preventer, and if we can open certain valves on that we could inject basically just rubber and other type of material into [it] to plug it up, not much different to the way you might plug up a toilet," he said.
As was first reported by Tire Review, Bridgestone Americas will announce today that it has signed a naming right deal for Nashville’s downtown arena. The tyre-maker and the Nashville Predators will hold a press conference this morning to announce the multi-year deal, which will create the “Bridgestone Arena.” The facility, currently named the Sommet Center, after a local firm, serves as the NHL team’s home, and hosts a wide variety of events and concerts.
