MIRA to invest £300 million in becoming ‘Europe’s most advanced independent testing facility’

MIRA has announced its intention to become a £100million business within the next 10 years. The well-known independent test centre, which is home to test garages belonging to Dunlop, Continental, Giti and Kumho to name but a few, says the business’ growth will see MIRA become the most advanced independent transport technology facility in Europe. And the operation reports that it is willing to commit £300 million to investment in new infrastructure at its Midlands base.

ATS Euromaster to distribute Primewell commercial vehicle tyres

ATS Euromaster is to supply the Giti Tire manufactured Primewell brand of truck. Primewell tyres are already sold in Asia, North America, South America and mainland Europe. Giti Tire is reportedly the fourth largest radial truck tyre manufacturer in the world.

Richard Lyons, Giti sales director – Europe, said: "We were looking for a large national company whose values reflected our own focus on quality, innovation and the environment, and ATS Euromaster ticked every box. Fleets of all sizes are using Primewell tyres around the world and have commented on the difference they are making to costs and performance levels. We have every faith that our partnership with ATS Euromaster will help us swiftly establish a similar reputation in the UK commercial vehicle sector."

Giti Tire USA clarifies financial figures

Following the publication of Giti subsidiary Giti Tire Company’s full year 2010 figures, Tom McNamara, vice president of sales for Giti Tire USA, has brought clarification to what these mean in the context of wider business.

According to McNamara, Giti Tire Corporation stated in its 2010 annual report that it had made timely price adjustments following the industry price movement in an effort to mitigate the increase in raw material prices and the effect of fluctuating exchange rates. Some published reports incorrectly attributed the decrease in net profit to not raising selling prices in 2010.

Giti Tire Corporation 2010 earnings down 64 per cent

Giti Tire Corporation (a Giti Group Shanghai listed company) recorded a 64 per cent year-on-year drop in 2010 net profit attributable to shareholders to 54 million yuan. This was despite a 36 per cent year-on-year increase in revenue to 3.61 billion yuan, according to a company filing.

Tyre Shortage? Fujian Province Exported Over 32.85 million Tyres in 2010

While wholesalers importing Chinese tyre products into mature European markets such as the UK struggle to negotiate supply issues and brace themselves for another round of price increases, there are reports that tyre makers in one part of the People’s Republic are over-producing to the extent that they are actually stockpiling tyres.

Southeast China's Fujian province exported 32.85 million between January and November 2010, signalling a 27.6 per cent year-on-year increase in shipments, according to a report from the province's customs officials. The total value of the tyres sold is said to have amounted to US$460 million, a jump in value of 34.8 per cent over the corresponding period of 2009. The export price averaged $13.9 per unit, up 5.7 per cent from 2009.

China Research and Intelligence Releases Tyre Top 50 Report

Companiesandmarkets.com has announced the publishing of a new research report from China Research and Intelligence on the world’s top 50 tyre enterprises, 2010-2011. The report gives an analysis on the enterprises whose sales ranked among world's top 50 in 2009, including their operations, sales volume, development trend, and investment in China, amongst other things. The report ranks the world’s top 75 tyre enterprises in 2010 according to sales revenue relative to tyre manufacturing in 2009. The top three, somewhat unsurprisingly, remain as Bridgestone, Michelin and Goodyear, though the sales revenue of these three companies witnessed a double-digit drop on 2008 figures.

Allen Tsaur: 80% of Chinese Tyres Not Ready for Labelling

Despite tough external conditions Cooper Chengshan’s top line growth is said to be “progressing well” in 2010 and the firm’s “amazingly strong” domestic truck and bus tyre market growth in the first quarter of this year is a key highlight of this performance. Meanwhile the company’s passenger car tyres sales have reportedly continued on their “relatively consistent” recent trajectory. Looking forward, Cooper Asia general manager and Cooper Chengshan boss Allen Tsaur reports that the company is well prepared for the forthcoming 2012 tyre labelling legislation across all its brands.

From Cooper Chengshan’s perspective the new laws are a good thing that “drives us forward.” However, this is clearly not the case across the board in China, with Tsaur reporting that an estimated 80 per cent of tyre suppliers are not up to scratch when it comes to labelling legisaltion preparedness. Out of roughly 300 tyre manufacturers currently operating in China, only the top 30 are said to be of a “good quality” that is compatible with exports into the mature markets. Of these, only the top 10 (including Cooper Chengshan) are already set for the 2012 rules.

First GT Radial Long Haul Tyres Get SmartWay Verification

The GT Radial GSL213 steer tyre and GT669+ drive tyre have received SmartWay verification from the US Environmental Protection Agency. SmartWay verified products reduce emissions and provide estimated fuel savings of three per cent or greater against market leading on-highway commercial truck tyres. These are the first GT Radial tyres to receive SmartWay verification. “This is an important milestone for our customers and company,” said Tom McNamara, vice president of sales for GITI Tire USA. “Our customers are reducing fuel costs, one of their highest expenses. We have received confirmation on the technology of our products and commitment to the environment.”

Since its establishment early last year, one of the primary focuses of GITI Tire (UK) Ltd. has been to provide a class leading level of service to both small and large fleets. In recent months the company has reported signing a number of agreements with UK fleets, including tyre supply for the 50 plus vehicles operated by Derbyshire based BJ Waters (Transport) Ltd. and for the 50 plus vehicle fleet belonging to Manchester’s Hadfields Transport Limited.

Giti Tire Doubles MIRA Testing Operation

Giti Tire has doubled the size of its European test centre, based at the MIRA research facilities in Warwickshire by both expanding its garage space and staff numbers at the test track. The development, which comes not much more than two years after the company embarked on its European research and development programme there, reflects the company’s determination to significantly increase sales and further develop its products to compete with longer established brand names.

As a result of the investment Giti has made, the company’s operation is now amongst the largest tyre testing programmes operating at MIRA. Speaking to Tyres & Accessories during a recent truck tyre demonstration day, company representatives explained that this UK-based European testing operation is increasingly adopting the position of a global centre as it now tests products for the US and various other global markets as well as its European mainstay. In addition the test centre has reportedly played host to the engineers from the firm’s Indonesian and Chinese production bases. Furthermore, the experienced test team that has been established under the leadership of the company’s European Technical Centre head, Eddie Young, has also begun bi-annual winter tyre testing at respected centres in Finland and New Zealand.

New Steer Radial from Giti Tire USA

Giti Tire USA has released the GT Radial GSL213, a new long-haul steer axle radial, reports Tire Review. Giti officials said the new GSL213 features “advanced technology and pattern design for outstanding overall performance, resistance to irregular wear and extended mileage.” The GSL213 is now available across North America in sizes 11R22.5 14PR, 295/75R22.5 14PR, 11R24.5 14PR and 285/75R24.5 14PR.

ContiSportContact 3 Tops Auto Express Tyre Test

The ContiSportContact 3 has won this year’s Auto Express test, the second time in a row a Continental brand tyre has won what is arguably Britain’s most popular annual tyre ranking. That said Michelin’s Pilot Sport 3 was just 0.6 per cent off the pace in the overall results with a benchmark of 99.4, closely followed by Goodyear and Dunlop with 99.2 and 99.1 in third and fourth place respectively for the company’s Eagle F1 Asymmetric and SP Sport Maxx TT tyres. Fifth place was taken by Hankook’s Ventus S1 evo with 98.2, a hair’s breadth ahead of Pirelli’s P Zero.

Truck Sales in China to hit 1 million

Sales of heavy-duty commercial vehicles in China surged to 316,725 units in the second quarter of 2010, an 83 per cent jump year-over-year according to a report published by ACT Research Co. and China's State Information Center. According to leading Chinese truck and bus radial (TBR) tyre manufacturer Giti Tire, demand for TBR tyres in the People’s Republic equates to 30 million units/year – more than three times the 9 million tyres consumed in Europe annually.

Latest GT Radial Van Range Lighter, More Fuel Efficient than Predecessor

A reduction in fuel consumption to the tune of two to three per cent is possible with the latest van tyre segment offering from Giti Tire. When compared with its predecessor, the GT Radial Maxmiler EX achieves up to this saving through a ten per cent weight reduction and approximately 15 per cent rolling resistance; the manufacturer states that the production technologies and materials used in the new tyre have enabled such use of an optimised weight construction.

Giti Tire USA Presents Debut Product Demonstration

Giti Tire USA certainly made a lasting impression with its very first product demonstration event in North America – blistering track speeds on a blistering hot day in Arizona, reports Tire Review. The company unveiled its new Champiro HPY ultra-high performance line at Firebird International Raceway, where air temperatures hovered around 106˚F and track asphalt temps were measured at 160˚F-plus. And based on the response of dealers and media attending the event and putting the new radial through its paces, the Champiro HPY lived up to its billing. Even after three lengthy road course driving sessions, the HPYs on a collection of BMW and Mercedes models showed no ill effects and none of edge feathering one would expect under such extreme conditions.
