Following the news of two new commercial vehicle tyre releases and another European show debut at Reifen 2014, GT Radial has announced that it will complete its new product line-up with a van and a car tyre too. Designed for the growing heavy duty, high speed van market, GT Radial will officially launch the Maxmiler Pro in Essen while revealing their new PCR tyre, designed for “all-round, premium comfort”.
Taiwanese tyre maker Kenda intends to strengthen its passenger car tyre business in Europe, and has named the German market as a particular focus. To support its efforts, the company has opened a European headquarters in northern Germany and as of 1 September 2013 employed former GITI Tire passenger car tyre marketing director Michael Andre as its marketing and sales manager for automotive tyres.
Giti Tire has appointed Lorna Craig as its retail network development manager. The position has been created with a brief to develop further the GT Radial Performance Centre (GTPC) programme in the UK. Craig, formerly a brand manager with GT Radial distributor Micheldever, will work in partnership with the wholesaler to achieve this goal.
Giti Tire has appointed Angelo Giannangeli it new marketing director Europe for the PCR and light truck segment. In this role, Giannangeli will be responsible for marketing initiatives and e-commerce for GT Radial, Primewell and Runway brand passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyres in Europe; the company aims to achieve a PCR segment market share of between five and ten per cent in key markets.
Having made its debut at Coach & Bus Live 2013 in support of its all-position urban city-bus tyre, the GAU861, and with recent success in the closely linked truck market, GT Radial has ambitions to increase its share in the passenger transportation side of the commercial vehicle tyre segment. Tony McHugh, sales and marketing director at Giti Tire UK, and marketing director – Europe, Peter Foulkes told Tyrepress that the company’s “broad coach and bus portfolio”, including 22.5” and 17.5” fitments, is now well placed to pursue increasing numbers of potential fleet customers, while the brand has existing deals within the sector in Germany.
Giti Tire’s expansion to its GT Radial commercial vehicle hot cure bead-to-bead retread tyre range will be announced officially at The Commercial Vehicle Show 2014. GT Radial will display the GDR690 GT REE Tread drive position regional tyre available in 295/80 and 315/80 sizes from its stand in Hall five (C60). Like the existing GTR990 385/65R22.5 super single, it will be solely manufactured using only GT Radial casings.
Giti Tire has announced the appointment of former Bridgestone employee Fabio Pecci-Boriani to the newly created position of senior product marketing manager across its European operation. Two years after bringing its first hot cure retread tyre to the UK market with the GTR990 regional trailer pattern in size 385/65R22.5, GT Radial will launch a further two products as part of its REE Tread programme. The GDR690 regional commercial vehicle drive pattern will be available in 295/80 and 315/80 sizes, and will be produced, like the super single product, by a major retread producer in the south east of England. As with the previous tyre, it will be manufactured using only GT Radial casings. Tyrepress discussed the extension to the retread range with sales and marketing director Truck and Bus Tony McHugh and marketing director – Europe Commercial Tires, Peter Foulkes at Giti Tire (UK)’s new headquarters in Cheshire, near Manchester.
Giti Tire has promoted Matthew Mardle to its senior management team, taking up the newly created position of European supply chain manager. Mardle will be responsible for product life cycle management, forecasting and planning for GT Radial, Primewell and Runway tyres across passenger car, SUV and light truck (PCR) and commercial truck and bus (TBR) operations.
The shortlisted nominations for this year’s Tire Technology International Awards include a number of familiar names, including a double-billing for Continental and SRI. The list of nominees also recognises important environmental innovations from the likes of Devulco, Kordsa and Pyrolyx, and the growing global impact of China-based tyre manufacturers and equipment suppliers, with Giti Tire and Mesnac both shortlisted. The winners in each of the five award categories will be announced on 11 February.
Giti Tire and Micheldever Tyre Services have renewed their Exclusive Distribution Agreement (EDA), extending the wholesaler’s sole UK supply rights for GT Radial passenger car, 4×4 and light truck tyres for the next three years. Under the terms of the agreement, which began in 2010, Micheldever will continue to develop the GT Radial Performance Centres (GTPCs) network as a priority while utilising the product offering to expand other wholesale and VMA business.

Giti Tire shares that in recent months it has received awards from two major OEM customers. At a ceremony held in China in late September, Chinese PCR and TBR plant Giti Tire (Fujian) Co Ltd was presented with a Fiat Chrysler 2012 APAC Perfect Quality Award, and the company’s first and largest Chinese operation, Giti Radial Tire (Anhui) Co Ltd, received a GM Supplier Quality Excellence Award.
Giti Tire has moved its UK headquarters to new 3,000 square foot offices in Northwich, Cheshire in a move the company described as preparation for “British and pan-European expansion”. According to company, representatives, the new facility will house the passenger car, SUV and light truck (PCR) and commercial truck and bus (TBR) operations across the three main brands, GT Radial, Primewell and Runway.
Falken Tyre Europe has named Andreas Giese as its new product planning manager. Giese was previously with Giti Tire Deutschland, where he was employed as marketing manager for almost four years and was involved in the company’s European passenger car tyre business.
